Relações emergentes avaliadas em testes de transferência de função em pombos / Emergent relations evaluated in transfer of function tests in pigeonsHeloisa Cursi Campos 06 December 2013 (has links)
Sendo assim, independentemente dos testes empregados (testes das propriedades com o procedimento go/no-go com estímulos compostos ou teste de transferência de função), desempenhos emergentes não são verificados em pombos após treino com o procedimento go/no-go com estímulos compostos / Campos et al.s (2011) results indicated the emergence of symmetry, but not transitivity and equivalence with pigeons in a go/no-go procedure with compound stimuli. The present experiment investigated stimulus class formation in transfer of function tests after training in a go/no-go procedure with compound stimuli. Four pigeons were trained to respond to A1B1, A2B2, B1C1, and B2C2 compound stimuli e not to respond to A1B2, A2B1, B1C2, and B2C1 compounds. Subsequently, subjects were trained to respond in DRL 3 s to A1 and in FR20 to A2. Transfer of function tests presented the A1 and A2 training stimuli and the B1, C1, B2, and C2 test stimuli to verify if subjects would show a lower response rate to A1, B1, C1 and a higher response rate to A2, B2, C2. Subjects showed lower response rates to some Set-1 stimuli as well as to some Set-2 stimuli. Thus, the results of the transfer of function tests indicate that equivalence classes were not established after training with the go/no-go procedure with compound stimuli in pigeons. Therefore, regardless of the test used (tests of the properties with the go/no-go procedure with compound stimuli or transfer of function tests), emergent performances are not verified in pigeons after training with the go/no-go procedure with compound stimuli

THEMATIC PATTERNING AS A STRUCTURING DEVICE IN WILLIAM FAULKNER'S "GO DOWN, MOSES"Corrick, James A. January 1981 (has links)
This study shows that William Faulkner's Go Down, Moses is a unified prose narrative. The various themes in this book are patterned so that they tie the work's seven chapters together into a coherent whole. Because of the thematic complexity of this book, only one set of themes, the acceptance or rejection of love and understanding, is examined. Characters demonstrate their acceptance of these values through their association with traditionally successful families. Characters reveal their rejection of these values through their association with unsuccessful families, if they are connected with families at all. Since literary criticism has no terminology for describing thematic patterning, this study employs terms used in musical composition. By constructing a model similar to the fugue form in music, we can show how the acceptance or rejection of love and understanding functions as one of the unifying elements in Go Down, Moses. The musical fugue has two parts, the exposition and the development. In the exposition, the fugue's major theme, called the subject, is introduced. In counterpoint to the subject, the fugue's minor theme, the countersubject, is also introduced. The full exploration of the subject and the countersubject's thematic possibilities is the province of the fugue's development. Between the sections of the development are short passages called episodes, in which portions of the subject and countersubject are used to shift the fugue's thematic emphasis. Finally, fugues often have a short, concluding section, the coda, in which there is a thematic summation. In the fugue-analog model for Go Down, Moses, the rejection of love and understanding corresponds to the subject, the major theme of the fugue. The acceptance of these values corresponds to the countersubject, the minor theme of the fugue. The fugal counterpoint is achieved through the actions of the book's characters in relation to successful and unsuccessful families. We can describe "Was," Chapter One of Go Down, Moses, as the exposition of the fugue-analog. The subject is developed through the actions of the McCaslin twins and Sophonsiba Beauchamp and through the initial three paragraph description of Isaac McCaslin. The countersubject appears through the actions of Tomey's Turl. "The Fire and the Hearth," Chapter Two, becomes the first section of the fugue-analog's development. The subject is seen through much of Lucas Beauchamp's activities as well as those of Roth Edmonds. The countersubject arises out of Lucas's loyalty to his family. This developmental section ends on the countersubject. "Pantaloon in Black," Chapter Three of Go Down, Moses, corresponds to the episode of the fugue-analog. Rider's strong attachment to his dead wife presents the countersubject, while the portrait of the marriage of the deputy sheriff develops the subject. The fugue-analog's episode shifts the thematic emphasis from countersubject to subject in preparation for the second section of development. The Isaac McCaslin chapters, "The Old People," "The Bear," and "Delta Autumn," are the fugue-analog's second development sections. Isaac's unsuccessful relations with his wife, his black cousins, and Cass Edmonds develop the subject, while Isaac's successful relationship with Sam Fathers presents the countersubject. The emphasis of this section of Go Down, Moses is on the subject. The book ends with "Go Down, Moses," the last chapter, which corresponds to the fugue-analog's coda. By ending with the description of the successful "family" of Miss Worsham and Molly Beauchamp, Go Down, Moses ends on the countersubject.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The work analyses the issue of idle infrastructure in the old centres, from case study in the city of Goiania. The focus of research is configurational, which means that relies on changes in spatial configuration - relationship between the full elements (barriers such as buildings and blocks) and empty (permeabilities: roads, sidewalks and squares) that make up the structure of the city - affecting the centres. For that, it employs the Theory of Social Logic of Space or Space Syntax - in their theoretical, methodological aspects and tooling - for allowing the correlation of configurational variables and multiple instances of urban dynamics, such as training, expansion and displacement of centrality. The research assumes three questions: 1) how does urban configuration, in their local and global aspects, affects the vitality in the old centre as the existing idle infrastructure?, 2) Which strategies allow reading of the relationship between spatial configuration, vitality and idle infrastructure in central areas?, and 3) which space mechanisms that make it possible to maintain the vitality of the city, in old urban centres? It is believed that the new configurational relations that arise from the city's growth affect the vitality of the old centres, reorganize urban dynamics and trigger a compatibility problem between the stock of infrastructure and urban functions.

_____________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / Was studied the Brazilian futures market for corn as a marketing support mechanism to the Goiás Producers. Was evaluated if corn futures contracts traded on BM&FBOVESPA may actually be used in hedging strategies. As methodology, were analyzed three aspects involving such a Market: the liquidity of corn futures contracts; the corn basis behavior in five cities of Goiás, where the product reaches certain level of prominence in production and marketing, and the optimal hedge ratio for these same locations. The results demonstrate increase in the number of traded futures contracts, despite those contracts maturing in July and October still present low liquidity. It revealed also that, for the majority of cities, the basis of corn presents a behavior that enables producers perform hedge strategies. However, about the optimal hedge ratio, it showed average value for the region of only 41%, with an average of 17% effectiveness.
