Performance Analysis of Reentry TDOA Positioning System

For the speed of target is very high, it is difficult for traditional positioning system to capture and track the target. TDOA (time difference of arrival) positioning system is used in reentry measurement. The position of target is calculated by using time difference of arrival. This paper introduces the principle of reentry TDOA positioning system. The key technology is synchronization of ground stations' clocks. The implementation of clock synchronization using low-cost commercial GPS receiver is presented. The sources of errors in the existing telemetry system, corresponding precision and experimental results are presented. Some methods, which are used to improve the precision, are proposed at the end of this paper.

In the following implementation, the 1588 timing reference source is the GPS receiver. Because it is being used in the Ground Station Segment and Test Article Segment, it becomes feasible to utilize the 1588 timing reference for cross-layer (MAC+PHY) iNET transceiver synchronization. In this paper, we propose an unified iNET transceiver synchronization architecture to improve iNET transceiver performance. The results of the synchronization performance analysis are given.

THE RECURSIVE ALGORITHMS FOR GDOP AND POSITIONING SOLUTION IN GPS

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 27-30, 1997 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / This paper proves theoretically that GDOP decreases as the number of satellites is increased.This paper proposes two recursive algorithms for calculating the GDOP and positioning solution.These algorithms not only can recursively calculate the GDOP and positioning solution, but also is very flexible in obtaining the best four-satellite positioning solution ,the best five-satellite positioning solution and the all visible satellite positioning solution according to given requirements. In the need of the two algorithms,this paper extends the definition of the GDOP to the case in which the number of visible satellites is less than 4.

Analysis of Galileo and GPS systems

On the basis of ephemeris of Galileo constellation, the mathematic model and procession are given in high dynamic signal environment, the digital simulation is also completed, the results are statistics and analyzed and presented. On the topic of navigation satellite constellation orbit and visibility, the paper presents the Galileo frame system, time system, navigation satellite orbit elements, constellation structure, and GDOP calculation. The users include low dynamic as well as high dynamic spacecraft. The analysis for relevant GPS is also showed. About the navigation signal structure, main points are Galileo system working frequency, including E5, E6 and L1 frequency spans, the modulation and navigation data, ets. At the same time, this paper compares Galileo with GPS. On the aspect of signal communication link, Dopplar frequency shift and power level calculation are present as well as compare with GPS system.

GPS Translator Record and Interface System (TRIS)

Absolute position accuracies of better than 20 meters in real-time and 8 meters in post mission have been consistently demonstrated. Flight qualified GPS translators 40 cubic inches in size have been developed for the U.S. Army Exoatmospheric Re-entry Vehicle Interceptor Subsystem (ERIS) program and are currently available for use by U.S. and allied government test ranges. More widespread use of GPS translators is constrained, however, by the great expense and size of the custom ground equipment currently used to acquire GPS translator signals and compute the position and velocity of the vehicle. To address this problem, the U.S. Air Force Western Space and Missile Center (WSMC) placed 3S under contract to design a lower-cost GPS translator processor based mainly on using commercial telemetry equipment. This paper describes how a working prototype was constructed to demonstrate the feasibility of the Translator Record and Interface System (TRIS). This prototype shows that TRIS can be built from a combination of commercially-available telemetry equipment, GPS equipment developed for the U.S. Air Force Range Applications Joint Program Office (RAJPO), and a few elements of custom equipment.

INVESTIGATION OF TELEMETRY AND GPS COMPATIBILITY

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 23-26, 2000 / Town & Country Hotel and Conference Center, San Diego, California / Several test programs have reported degraded Global Positioning System (GPS) performance when L-band (1435-1535 MHz) telemetry is used while other test programs have had acceptable GPS performance with L-band telemetry. Most test programs seem to have minimal problems with S-band telemetry interfering with GPS performance if a bandpass filter is used between the GPS antenna and the low noise amplifier (LNA). This paper will present measured data on GPS performance with L- and S-band telemetry and explain what must be done to minimize interference to GPS. The paper will present both GPS signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) values as well as measured spectra from telemetry transmitters. System design guidelines for compatible operation will be presented.

Launch Vehicle tracking data is also useful in assessing vehicle performance and mission success. Cincinnati Electronics (CE) has developed a Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) Receiver/Transmitter Unit (RTU), specifically for use with launch vehicles. The CE GPS RTU was flown as an experiment on the Missile Technology Demonstration (MTD) flight at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR). This paper provides an overview of CE’s GPS RTU and provides the results of CE’s GPS RTU MTD-3 flight performance.

STUDY ON HARDWARE REALIZATION OF GPS SIGNAL FAST ACQUISITION

In this paper two different methods for acquisition are mainly discussed: serial search in the time domain and FFT search in the frequency domain. Frequency domain acquisition involves using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to convert the GPS signals into the frequency domain. One fast and easy-to-implement algorithm for averaging correlation is implemented and explained in detail. The FFT search method is both simulated in Matlab and evaluated in Altera Stratix DSP development board.
