The Oriental Northeast Atlantic Hydrographic Region (RHANO), is located in the extreme northeast of Brazil, from Piauí to Alagoas, with around 286.000 km² of area, where approximately 24.1 million people live, covering much of the Brazilian semi-arid region. The GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) is a joint mission between American and German space agencies that in addition to obtain precise measurements of the temporal variations of Earth’s gravity field can be used to check a continuous mass redistribution and it’s temporal variation throughout the planet. The present master thesis aims to analyze the variations of water storage, obtained from GRACE data in RHANO from April 2002 until December 2015, range considering the start of operation of the mission. Moreover, the following analyses were performed: (i) correlation of temporal GRACE observations with the water resources situation reports prepared by the national water agency (ANA), (ii) quantifying the difference of water availability in two moments of 2015 in relation to seasonal equivalents of 2002 and (iii) comparison of observations obtained by solution called mascons GRACE with in situ information of temporal behavior from reservoirs in RHANO. As results of a comparison between November 2002 and December 2015, it was found in the availability of water loss in the order of ≅19,25 km³ (19246,11 hm³). Highlighting the equality between the seasonal variations, semiannual and annual water availability pointed by the ANA with the GRACE mission processed data and measured. Another result found was the discovery, in the RHANO from 2012, of a decline in the main reservoirs (≅60%), which was confirmed with the observations obtained by mascons in the study area. Thus, stands out the importance of the GRACE mission and its products in support of hydrological studies.

Natureza e graça em "O Grande Abismo" de C. S. Lewis

Santos, João Marcos Lemos dos 06 August 2010 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Joao Marcos Lemos dos Santos.pdf: 289614 bytes, checksum: 9d78f88f615e35fade79889a7eae32be (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-08-06 / This dissertation presents a study of the themes of nature and grace in C. S. Lewis' novel The Great Divorce. The first chapter introduces the theories of Mikhail Bakhtin, Julia Kristeva and C. S. Lewis concerning the relation between texts. From that theoretical foundation, the second chapter studies descriptions of the afterlife in the works Lewis borrows from most in The Great Divorce: Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy and Valdemar Thisted's Letters From Hell, and observes the way in which Lewis integrates these intertexts into his novel. Finally, in the last two chapters the dissertation examines different characters from The Great Divorce and the way in which they act out different aspects of human nature or divine grace, in order to determine Lewis' position as to the relation between nature and grace and his concept of salvation.

Grace, Legalism, and Life Outlook in LDS Students

Top, Justin Brent 14 May 2021 (has links)
Intrinsic Spirituality has been linked to lower rates of depression and anxiety and higher positive mental functioning (Pargament, Exline & Jones, 2013). This may be due in part to beliefs which foster values that are important to positive outlook, such as faith, forgiveness, humility, love and community. It is also possible for strongly religious individuals to have maladaptive beliefs that may be problematic for their happiness and adjustment. Understanding how beliefs influence mental health can be helpful to therapists; particularly to those who deal with religious clients who are heavily influenced by their spiritual beliefs. This study looks at the important religious concepts of grace and legalism to identify how they interact with intrinsic spirituality to influence five different positive psychology measures: gratitude, self-esteem, meaning in life, satisfaction with life and optimism. Roughly 560 students from a religious university participated in a self-report survey looking at various spirituality and mental health measurements. Structural Equation Modeling was used to determine if experiencing grace or legalistic beliefs mediated the relationship between spirituality and each of five “life outlook” measures. Moderator analysis was used to identify any interaction effects of grace and legalism on the life outlook variables. Intrinsic spirituality was predictive of belief in grace and negatively predictive of belief in legalism. Belief in grace was also predictive of all five positive mental health measures, and legalism was negatively predictive of gratitude. Interestingly, grace-legalism interaction effects were found for self-esteem, gratitude and satisfaction. Gender differences were significant. Implications for therapy and directions for future research are discussed.

From Justice to Justification

Charles, John Burdette 01 January 1942 (has links) (PDF)
We will attempt to show that Paul's doctrine of justification was not an arbitrary replacement of the Jewish idea of justice but a natural necessity of man's nature and his society.
