Quando usados no contexto de mobilidade, sistemas colaborativos podem ser chamados de sistemas colaborativos móveis. Esses sistemas possibilitam, por exemplo, que equipes cooperem enquanto estão em movimento, aumentando o potencial da colaboração. Ferramentas para apoiar desenvolvedores de software são muito importantes de uma forma geral, mas no que diz respeito à colaboração móvel, ferramentas se tornam fundamentais principalmente por se tratar de uma área multidisciplinar que lida com muitas questões técnicas. Porém, sem uma base de requisitos ou modelos que mapeiam esses requisitos para se apoiar, muitas vezes o ferramental pode se tornar inutilizado ou pouco útil. Torna-se com isso de grande importância prover suporte ao desenvolvimento de sistemas colaborativos móveis por meio de um conjunto de ferramentas e métodos que apoiem o desenvolvedor na criação desses sistemas. Devido a isto, neste trabalho foi desenvolvida CReAMA, uma arquitetura de referência para orientar o desenvolvimento de sistemas colaborativos móveis orientados a componentes. Além da definição da arquitetura de referência também foi realizada uma avaliação de CReAMA com o intuito de observar com uma visão abrangente a validade da proposta.

O estudo observou na empresa analisada as diferentes ferramentas de tecnologia groupware, em especial a INTRANET, a rede corporativa e o Lotus Notes como facilitadores da gestão do conhecimento. A dissertação foi realizada a partir de uma abordagem qualitativa, não partindo de hipóteses pré-estabelecidas, pelo método do estudo de caso. Foi realizada uma revisão teórica dos principais conceitos alusivos à relação entre tecnologias de groupware e gestão do conhecimento para identificar fatores bloqueadores e facilitadores oriundos do uso de tais tecnologias. Os resultados sugerem que as tecnologias de groupware implantadas na empresa têm facilitado o trabalho operacional e melhorado o nível informacional na empresa, a partir de uma gestão da informação, mas não é utilizado sistematicamente para a transferência e compartilhamento do conhecimento organizacional

HANDLING DISCONNECTION IN SYNCHRONOUS GROUPWARE

Synchronous distributed groupware is a class of software applications allowing a geographically distributed group of people to collaborate in real time. There are different types of groupware, e.g., collaborative editing software, distributed meeting support tools, and multiplayer games. However, collaborators in groupware can become disconnected from the session. Disconnections can range in duration from a few seconds (e.g., due to a network outage) to hours or days (e.g., stowing a laptop while flying). Disconnection causes information loss and makes it difficult for users to understand both the state of the workspace and the current activities of other people upon reconnection. Thus, it is important to handle disconnection in groupware. However, handling disconnection is difficult for groupware developers. They need to determine varieties of strategies in order to address different disconnection scenarios. These strategies determine how stored information can be manipulated as the system waits for a disconnected user to rejoin, and how information should be replayed upon reconnection. If disconnection lasts for a long time, developers need to select and combine strategies in order to manage a trade-off between performance requirements (e.g., delivering stored information as quickly as possible upon reconnection) and understandability requirements (e.g., allowing users to watch missed information in an understandable manner). Developers might not know how to implement such strategies in a reusable manner. Because of this lack of knowledge in handling disconnection, developers might build disconnection-aware groupware applications that will not address the range of wide variety of user-level requirements that arise from different disconnection scenarios. Moreover, as there are a few disconnection-aware groupware applications, developers might not know the overhead (e.g., additional message transmission time, memory usage and programming complexity) of handling disconnection in synchronous groupware in practice. In order to mitigate developers’ problems to handle disconnection in synchronous groupware, this thesis provides codified solutions that capture and organize a wide range of strategies for handling disconnection, that manage the performance and understandability trade-off through selecting and combining suitable strategies and that show how to implement the strategies in a reusable manner. In order to determine the overhead of handling disconnection, a toolkit is developed following the designed solutions, and different applications are constructed using the toolkit. The aim of this dissertation is to define favourable conditions for a company to implement IceWarp Mail Server groupware product. In the first part of the dissertation the author defines the term "groupware" and analyses the market of groupware applications of similar functionality, presenting a basic comparison with IceWarp Mail Server. The second part is focused on functionality description of each IceWarp Mail Server module and its possible uses. The author also compares individual ways of accessing the functions of a supported client and their advantages and disadvantages. In the third part the author defines hardware and software requirements for implementation and operation of server and client. The author describes implementation of IceWarp Mail Server and clients in general, including ways of migration of present data from the old system, and points out the most common problems and questions connected to this process. The last part of the dissertation is focused on finished projects of IceWarp Mail Server implementation into various organisations. First, initial conditions and expectations are analysed, then the process of implementation is described along with the arisen difficulties and their solution.
