No. of bitstreams: 1 Norma_Barbado.pdf: 2070778 bytes, checksum: ed667fd80db82f8ed6cdf85c71dfa73e (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-08-27 / The collection site of seeds and the environment where seedlings develop can be limiting factors for the development of forest plants. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the germination and seedling growth of the pink pepper tree (Schinus terebinthifolius RADDI), grown from seeds from four locations with different altitudes (São Francisco do Sul - SC, Foz do Iguaçu - PR, Maringá PR and Guarapuava - PR) and developed under different light conditions (50, 60, 70 and 100%). The seeds were collected from three arrays of each selected place and sent to Refúgio Biológico Bela Vista de Itaipu, where a sample was taken for analysis of vigor and germination according to the methodology of the Rules for Seed Analysis. The experimental design used in the germination test was randomized with twelve replicates of 50 seeds per treatment. Analyses related to the development of the seedlings occurred from collections in 30, 60, 90 and 120 days after sowing, assessing growth rates on the plant height, the size of the root, diameter of the collect, the number of leaves, fresh and dry weight of leaves, fresh and dry weight of stem + petiole, fresh and dry weight of root, fresh weight and total dry mass. The experiment was arranged in triple factorial scheme with four levels for each factor (43). The factors evaluated were: local seed collection, luminosity and time, with nine replications, discarding the two highest and the two lowest values. Data were analyzed by multivariate analysis of variance and for the meaningful responses to the variables it was used analysis of variance univariate and Tukey test. To identify the best treatment for the production of seedlings of Pink Pepper, the set of response variables (b1) from the treatments applied to principal component analysis (PCA) on the correlation matrix (Pearson) of variables and the criterion for retention of principal components (PCs) used was "broken-stick", also used on the randomizing test. The seeds that showed better percentage of normal seedlings, better germination in the first count (7 DAS), higher index of germination speed, best length of roots and shoots of seedlings at 21 DAS were those from São Francisco do Sul - SC. The seeds that showed the lowest germination rate and a lower percentage of the first count germination (7 DAS), were from Maringá - PR. The best seedlings of the Pink Pepper were obtained from seeds collected in Maringá - PR at 70% brightness, with lower variability. The seedlings that had the lowest rates of development were produced with the seeds of São Francisco do Sul - SC and Foz do Iguaçu - PR at 50% brightness / O local de coleta de sementes e o ambiente onde as mudas se desenvolvem, podem ser fatores limitantes para o desenvolvimento de mudas de plantas florestais.

Phytophthora nicotianae: ação de meios de cultura e da qualidade da luz no crescimento e esporulação e aspectos fisiológicos e bioquímicos da interação com porta-enxertos cítricos / Phytophthora nicotianae: action of culture media and light quality on growth and sporulation and physiological and biochemical aspects of the interaction with citrus rootstocks

Paulo Cézar das Mercês Santos 03 November 2015 (has links)
The Brazilian citrus industry has very significant and expressive numbers, reflecting the great social and economic importance of this industrial and agricultural activity has for the economy. Brazil stands out as the world\'s largest orange producer. Citrus plants can be produced and multiplied in various ways and the bud is the form of vegetative propagation more commercially used in Brazil. Among the most commonly used rootstocks, stand up the Swingle citrumelo and Sunki mandarin. Despite the advantages these two genotypes present, their production is being limited by diseases caused by fungi and estraminipilas. In citrus, all species of Phytophthora are responsible for diseases gummosis and fibrous root rot, especially. P. nicotianae is the kind that affects citrus plants in Brazil. Regardless of the great importance of P. nicotianae for rootstocks, some mechanisms of resistance or susceptibility still require further scientific investigation. This study aims to elucidate some mechanisms of resistance of citrus to P. nicotianae, through physiological and biochemical studies of rootstocks, beyond of action culture media and quality of light in the physiological study of this estraminipila. To this was carried out to detect certain equivalent of phenolic compounds by HPLC and genotype resistant behavior against the possible inhibition of the synthesis of phenolic compounds by treatment of the roots of Swingle rootstock with Pro-Ca; evaluated the zoospores attraction P. nicotianae by exudates from the two rootstocks using an adapted trap; it was the zoospore behavior, motility and zoosporogenesis to the action of various phenolic compounds and tested the action of different culture media and quality of light on mycelial growth and sporulation of P. nicotianae. The results for HPLC revealed that Sunki mandarin has larger amounts of apigenin equivalents Swingle citrumelo in that the two periods. The sturdy rootstock had more chlorogenic acid equivalents of the susceptible genotype. As for the Pro-Ca equivalent of phenolic compounds in Swingle seedling roots not differ from those plants treated with water. The Pro-Ca not inhibited and not disabled the synthesis of phenolic compounds. The use of the antibody against elicitin \"α-plurivorin\" had intermediate results in water consumption by Sunki mandarin seedlings and zoosporicide activity of phenolic compounds showed variable results in the behavior of zoospore motility. The scopoletin and tricetinpentametoxi phenolic compounds managed to paralyze the motility and provided the smallest percentages of zoosporogenesis. The culture medium AA allowed greater DMGR, followed by CA and V8-CaCO3-Agar. The highest sporulation values were found in the last two media, respectively. All lights tracks (and the absence of light) studied in this work can be evaluated for mycelial growth, but the treatment light was that more induced sporulation of zoospores of P. nicotianae.

Fontes e doses de fósforo na formação de mudas e produção do cafeeiro / Sources and phosphorus levels in seedlings and coffee production

Rafael Tadeu de Assis 27 August 2010 (has links)
Phosphorus (P) which is a little available nutrient in tropical soils due to their disability and also because natural impoundment of the same constituents in the soil itself, forming insoluble phosphates and thus unavailable to plants. The solubilization of inorganic phosphate is a strategy to increase the availability of this nutrient in the soil. One way would be to use P-solubilizing microorganisms that make nutrients available to plants that. Thus, this study aimed to: (i) evaluate the growth of coffee as a function of the sources and levels of P2O5, (ii) determine the available phosphorus and (iii) assess the nutritional status of coffee, depending on the source and dose of P2O5. The development of coffee seedlings is higher with the use of soluble P source, in relation to the source of gradual solubility regardless of dose. The determination of the replacement capacity of the water soluble source of gradual solubility depends on the reaction time in the soil, whose maximum equivalence is equal to 84% at 180 days after fertilizer application (MSF). In soils with a sufficient level of available P for the cultivation of coffee is feasible to replace a water soluble (SFS) for another low solubility associated with micro-organisms (MSF).

Existují u krásivek rodu Micrasterias teplotně korelované změny v morfologické integraci buněk? / Are there any temperature related changes in morphological integration of Micrasterias cells?

Buchtová, Edith January 2017 (has links)
Micrasterias rotata is a phylogenetically and morphologically well defined species that is widely distributed in Central Europe in a broad temperature gradient. For its complex cell shape Micrasterias rotata is a suitable model organism for cell morphogenesis research. This thesis investigated whether there could be a different pattern in morphological integration resulting from the temperature stress in Micrasterias rotata cells cultivated on a temperature gradient. The optimum and a limits of growth on the temperature gradient were related to the sampling locations of the studied strains isolated from a lowland wetland and an high alpine lake. Differences in the growth rates among the strains suggested a local adaptation to the climatic conditions of the original locations but relatively high values of the assumed optimum growth temperature suggested an intra- species evolutionary adaptation. The temperature-related size reduction rule was not confirmed; however, a similar pattern of variation in shape occurred in both strains. The morphological integration analysis has basically confirmed that the Micrasterias cell is composed of a number of morphological modules related to its differentiation into the lobes and sublobes. Integration between the lobes of the opposite semicell was primarily...

Study of transport properties of CO2 and ethanol in a hydroalcoholic solution by classical molecular dynamics : application to Champagne wines.

Perret, Alexandre 11 December 2014 (has links)
The work presented in this manuscript is devoted to the study of the diffusion of dissolved carbon dioxide and ethanol in a hydroalcoholic solution model representing Champagne wines. The first part of this work deals with the different formalisms of molecular diffusion, as well as theoretical and experimental methods used to account for this phenomenon of transport. Particular attention is paid to the classical force field molecular dynamics that is used in this work with the GROMACS software. This theoretical approach provides a new perspective in research on champagne and particularly on the role of each of the main species in CO2 diffusion. NMR spectroscopy, and an experimental method based on the study of the bubbles growth rate, were also used. In the second part, the theoretical and experimental results are presented and compared with each other to validate the protocol of molecular dynamics simulations. The viscosities of the model solution and of the champagne, as well as the hydrodynamic radii of CO2 and ethanol, are also investigated. The last part of the manuscript focuses on the partnership with the Bull company and the study of the GROMACS software performance. The expertise of and the tools developed by the Bull company are used to study the scalability and the parallel behavior of GROMACS for modeling champagne.

The Effects of Socioeconomic Status on Growth Rates in Academic Achievement.

Chow, Priscilla En-Yi 12 1900 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to examine the differences in academic growth rates as demonstrated on the TAKS test among students based on those who received free lunches, those who received reduced-price lunches, and those not economically disadvantaged. Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) for reading and mathematics scale scores were obtained from five Texas public school districts for students who were in 3rd grade in 2003, 4th grade in 2004, 5th grade in 2005, and 6th grade in 2006. The sample included almost 10,000 students. The data were analyzed using SPSS and HLM. SPSS was used to identify descriptive statistics. Due to the nested nature of the data, HLM was used to compare data on three levels- the test level, student level, and district level. Not economically disadvantaged students scored the highest on both TAKS reading and mathematics exams with a mean scale score of 2357 and 2316 respectively in 2003. Compared to the not economically disadvantaged students, students receiving reduce-priced lunches scored approximately 100 points lower, and lowest were the students receiving free lunches, scoring another 50 points below students receiving reduced-price lunches. The results revealed that while gaps in achievement exist between SES levels, little difference exists in the growth rates of the SES subgroups. The results of this study support the need for continued effort to decrease the gap between students who are not economically disadvantaged and those receiving free or reduced-price meals.

Effect of dietary methionine level on productivity and carcass characteristics of ross 308 broiler chickens

Paledi, Mashego Queen January 2019 (has links)
Thesis (M. Sc. Agriculture (Animal Production)) -- University of Limpopo, 2019 / Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of dietary methionine level on productivity and carcass characteristics of Ross 308 broiler chickens. In each experiment, the diets were isocaloric and isonitrogenous but with different dietary methionine levels. Five diets were formulated to contain dietary methionine levels of 4, 5, 6, 8 or 9g/kg DM. The first experiment commenced with 300 unsexed Ross 308 broiler chickens with initial average live weights of 42 ± 2g per chicken. The chickens were randomly assigned to five treatments with five replications, resulting in 25-floor pens with 12 chickens per replicate. The second experiment commenced with 150 male Ross 308 broiler chickens with initial average live weight of 637 ± 12g per chicken. The chickens were randomly assigned to five treatments with three replications, resulting in 15-floor pens with 10 chickens per replicate. A complete randomized design was used in each experiment. Data was analysed using the General Linear Model (GLM) procedures of the statistical analysis of variance, Version 9.3.1 software program. Where there were significant differences, mean separation was done using the Tukey test at the 5% level of significance. A quadratic regression model was used to determine the optimal productivity of the chickens while a linear model was used to determine the relationships between dietary methionine level and responses by the chickens in the variables measured. The treatments for the first experiment were UM4 (4g methionine/kg DM), UM5 (5g methionine/kg DM), UM6 (6g methionine/kg DM), UM8 (8g methionine/kg DM) and UM9 (9g methionine/kg DM). Feed intake, growth rate, feed conversion ratio (FCR), metabolisable energy intake and nitrogen retention of unsexed Ross 308 broiler chickens aged one to 21 days were not affected (P>0.05) by dietary methionine level. Similarly, dietary methionine level did not have any effect (P>0.05) on diet crude protein (CP), acid detergent fibre (ADF), neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and fat digestibilities in unsexed Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 14 to 21 days. Dietary methionine level did not have any effect on live weights of broiler chickens at 21 days. Live weights of unsexed Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 7 or 14 days were not improved (P>0.05) by increasing dietary methionine level from 4 to 9g/kg DM. Crop, gizzard and small intestine weights and crop, proventriculus and gizzard digesta pH values of unsexed Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 21 days were not affected v (P>0.05) by dietary methionine level. Similarly, dietary methionine level did not improve (P>0.05) caecum and large intestine lengths of unsexed Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 21 days. However, dietary methionine level affected (P<0.05) dry matter (DM) and ash digestibilities of unsexed Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 14 to 21 days. Proventriculus and large intestine weights, gastrointestinal tract and small intestine lengths of unsexed Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 21 days were improved (P<0.05) by increasing dietary methionine level. In addition, increasing dietary methionine level increased (P<0.05) small and large intestine digesta pH values of broiler chickens aged 21 days. Thus, dry matter digestibility, live weights at day 7 ad 14, caecum length, large intestine length and digesta pH were optimized at different dietary methionine levels of 7.26, 5.29, 4.99, 6.80, 4.84 and 6.37g/kg DM feed, respectively. The treatments for the second experiment were MM4 (4g methionine/kg DM), MM5 (5g methionine/kg DM), MM6 (6g methionine/kg DM), MM8 (8g methionine/kg DM) and MM9 (9g methionine/kg DM). Dietary methionine level did not have effect (P>0.05) on feed intake of male Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 6 weeks. However, dietary methionine level improved (P<0.05) feed intake of male Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 4 or 5 weeks. Live weights of male Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 28 days were not affected (P>0.05) by dietary methionine level. However, live weights of male Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 35 and 42 days were affected (P<0.05) by dietary methionine level. Similarly, dietary methionine level affected (P<0.05) DM, CP, ADF, NDF, fat and ash digestibilities of male Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 35 to 42 days. Thus, dietary methionine levels of 6.93, 7.70, 6.85 and 11.27g/kg DM optimized dry matter, CP and fat digestibilities, and live weight of male broiler chickens aged 42 days. Dietary methionine level did not affect (P>0.05) FCR, growth rate and metabolisable energy intakes of male Ross 308 broiler chickens. Increasing dietary methionine level from 4 to 9g/kg DM improved (P<0.05) nitrogen retention of male Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 22 to 42 days. Dietary methionine level did not have any effect (P>0.05) on proventriculus, gizzard, caecum and large intestine weights, caecum, small and large intestine lengths, and crop, gizzard, caecum and large intestine digesta pH values of male Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 42 days. Crop and small vi intestine weights and gastrointestinal tract lengths of male Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 42 days were improved (P<0.05) by dietary methionine level. Similarly, dietary methionine level affected (P<0.05) proventriculus and small intestine digesta pH values of male Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 42 days. Thus, dietary methionine levels of 6.558 and 7.851g/kg DM optimized broiler chicken crop weight and GIT length. Dietary methionine level affected (P<0.05) carcass organ weights of male Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 42 days. Increasing dietary methionine level increased chicken breast meat weight. However, there was no clear trend for the other carcass organs. Meat flavour and shear force values of male Ross 308 broiler chickens aged 42 days were not affected (P>0.05) by dietary methionine level. However, dietary methionine level affected meat tenderness and juiciness. Thus, dietary methionine levels of 10.09 and 13.32g/kg DM optimized broiler chicken meat tenderness and juiciness. . / National Research Foundation (NRF) and VLIROUS

Effects of population size, density and local environment on the population dynamics of the fragrant orchid (Gymnadenia conopsea)

Kupka, Kasper January 2021 (has links)
A wide majority of orchid populations are decreasing due to habitat fragmentation and to changes in land management. Population size, density and habitat quality are factors that are expected to be positively related to the viability and future growth of a population. We evaluated if population size, density and soil organic matter were good predictors of growth, survival, flowering, recruitment, and growth rate in 18 populations of the long-lived orchid Gymnadenia conopsea. We followed the populations for four years. Recruitment in 2020 increased with population size, and survival in 2018 was higher in denser populations. However, flowering probability and number of flowers both decreased with population size in 2018. Soil organic matter did not significantly influence any vital rate. In total, the studied population factors could explain very little of the variation in demography. The matrix modelling showed that 14 of the 18 populations had a positive stochastic growth rate, even with an increased probability of summer drought (scenario with 50% of the years equal to the dry summer of 2018). In the populations with negative growth rate, the probability of quasi-extinction in the next 50 years varied from 90 to 100%. Declining populations were characterized by low survival following the dry year. In sum, population size, density and soil organic matter did not convincingly explain variation in growth rate of G. conopsea, suggesting that other environmental factors are responsible of governing variation in vitals rates and population dynamics.

Early Stages of Fatigue Damage of Steels for Fusion Energetics / Early Stages of Fatigue Damage of Steels for Fusion Energetics

Kuběna, Ivo January 2012 (has links)
Hlavním cílem této práce bylo vysvětlit únavové chování ocelí ODS Eurofer, 14Cr ODS feritické oceli vyráběné v CEA (Commissariat a l’énergie atomique, Saclay, France) a 14Cr ODS feritické oceli vyráběné v EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Laussane, Switzerland).
