Pierre Ryckmans (alias Simon Leys, né en 1935) : mise en perspective disciplinaire et apport méthodologique en histoire de l’art et sinologie / Pierre Ryckmans (aka Simon Leys, born in 1935) : A Methodological and Historiographical Prospect in Art History and Sinology

Idier, Nicolas 10 December 2011 (has links)
Pierre Ryckmans, born in 1935 in Belgium, is famous throughout the world under the pen name of Simon Leys, which he adopted to write a series of essays on Chinese contemporary politics. However, this perspicacious sinologist is first and foremost a great Chinese art historian. His works have opened new methodological and theoretical perspectives: clear definition of this « one more art » that is calligraphy, periodization of painting, the setting of a terminology for aesthetics, all these based not only on the translation of art treaties, but also of several types of texts that are characteristic of Chinese scholars culture: casual literary notes, comments, memories, Chinese canons… The main contribution of Pierre Ryckmans is to have addressed both Classic and Contemporary China through its visual culture, to have succeeded in adapting art history to the specificities of the field and context of production – specificities related to linguistics, philosophy, literature and politics. In the historiography of Chinese art history, Pierre Ryckmans occupies a prominent place, largely influential to the developments of current international research. These construction mechanisms had to be explained. This dissertation thus focuses on the contribution of Pierre Ryckmans to Chinese art history, in order to emphasise the coherence of his methods and the lasting relevance of its results.

Číst Pekaře. Čtyři interpretační cesty k jednomu textu / Reading Pekař. Four Interpretations of one Text

Fapšo, Marek January 2013 (has links)
Reading Pekař. Four Interpretations of one Text Marek Fapšo Abstract of Final Thesis Following thesis is an empirical contribution to the theory of historiography. It starts with analysis of current situation in the historical sciences, which can be epistemologically called as methodological pluralism. That means, there are many equal but often antagonistic points of view on the past. In the center, the thesis offers four analytical interpretations of Josef Pekař's text Czechs as the Apostles of Barbarism, which was written by this famous Czech historian in 1897. Four analysis are based on four methodological concepts: Émile Durkheim's sociology of religion, Alexandre Koyre's history of science, Roman Ingarden's phenomenology of literature and Walter Benjamin's philosophy of history. This quasi-empirical part is finished and completed by theoretical reflection of the four attempts. It leads to a theory of historiography inspired by philosophy of Hans-Georg Gadamer. The main task of following thesis is to consider relation between chosen method and historical knowledge (of truth).

Formy reprezentací československých historiků 1. poloviny 20. století. Václav Chaloupecký (1882 - 1951), Fridolín Macháček (1884 - 1954), Josef Pešek (1878 - 1958) / Forms of representations of czechoslovakian historians in first half of twentieth century. Sixta, Václav January 2014 (has links)
The thesis is dealing with the term "representation of historian" on the example of czechoslovakian historiography of the first half of twentieth century. For understanding of this work is important the context of my bachelor thesis, which dealed with the same problem using quantitative approaches on Kulturní adresář (Culture adressary) written by Antonín Dolenský. This thesis is an antropologization of the same issue in the meaning og underscoring the multiplicity of representations and its independence on the macroperspective of usual interpretations of czechoslovakian historiography. This perspective is enabled by choosen sources, which are texts of three historians - schoolmates, who studied together field of study history - geography on the Faculty of arts of Charles university. But their careers had differnt ways. Fridolín Macháček was during his whole professional life connected with Plzeň and its archive, Josef Pešek was teacher on high school in Prague (Akademické gymnázium) and historian of east bohemia and last but not least Václav Chaloupecký archivist in Roudnice nad Labem, professor of czekoslovakian history at university in Bratislava and than in Prague. The advantage of these sources is possibility to focus on the term "representation of historian" like a result of process of...

Historik umění Rudolf Chadraba a jeho vědecké dílo / Art historian Rudolf Chadraba and his work

Johanidesová, Tereza January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to explore and evaluate the scientific work of art historian Rudolf Chadraba who is generally considered to be one of the founders and the most distinctive representatives of an iconological method in czech art history. The Master's thesis doesn't make efforts to survey Chadraba's scientific career from biographic point of view in a clearly and chronologically way, because the main focus of the interpretation lies on starting points of Chadraba's work, specific influences on him, particular motifs and themes, which are penetrating and reflected in his academical works of art historian and which therefore form his peculiar method. Biographical information about Rudolf Chadraba is introduced here only briefly, the text tends to point out Chadraba's transdisciplinary approach and his extensive conception of iconology. Moreover, it pays a lot of attention to influences of such personalities as Max Dvořák, Ladislav Cejp, Alois Dempf, Josef Strzygowski or Herbert Read, who represent important source of inspiration in Chadraba's scientific work. Theories and methods of these scholars in connection with Chadraba's interest in tradition and triumphalism in christian art initiated his pursuing parallels between european and oriental art, which were insufficiently employed in czech art...

"This is OUR AMERICA, TOO": Marcus B. Christian & the History of Black Louisiana

Shy, Yulbritton 14 May 2010 (has links)
Louisiana's unique social and cultural history with its three-tiered racial system (rather than the biracial system that governed much of the United States) left the region and the history of its black inhabitants, outside of familiar narratives of United States black history. Marcus B. Christian, the self-trained intellectual, sought to research, and make public, the history of blacks in Louisiana. His career demonstrates the importance of training, economic status, and geographical focus in the production of African American history. Many of the stories he told, through writing and research, retrieved the largely forgotten history of Creoles of color. In fact, his own story was an extension of the black intellectual traditions of that Creole population. Even as his work revealed black Louisiana's unique culture, it also served as the foundation for Christian's own intellectual legacy, one with both material and intellectual dimensions.

[en] PRESUPPOSITIONS FOR A HISTORY OF LITERATURE / [pt] PRESSUPOSTOS PARA UMA HISTÓRIA DA LITERATURA

MARCELLO DE OLIVEIRA PINTO 25 May 2006 (has links)
[en] Nowadays Literary studies, history and history of history consider inadequate approaches to their basic concepts that do no take into consideration their contexts and their emergence as interactive networks derived from complex psychobiosocial processes generated by a curious and creative observer. Based on these presuppositions, this thesis aims to suggest a model to construct a history of literature. In order to reach its aims, I will describe its main concepts metatheoretical fundamentals applied to build this model, as well as theories that deal with the concepts of literature, history and history of literature and the relevant elements of these concepts.
