Longitudinal Effects of Habit-breaking Appliances on Tongue and Dento-alveolar Relations and Speech in Children with Oral HabitsSuwwan, Ihab 25 July 2008 (has links)
A longitudinal pilot study to compare, in children with reduced overbite malocclusions associated with oral habits (finger-sucking and tongue-thrusting), the effects of the experimental Myofunctional Trainer (MFT; Myofunctional Research Co.) and the conventional Bluegrass appliance (BG) on dento-alveolar relations, tongue position, and on speech. Methods: The experimental group received the MFT appliance while the control group received the BG appliance. Dento-alveolar changes were assessed by cephalometry and study models. Longitudinal midsagittal 2-dimensional B-mode ultrasound scans of the tongue surface were performed to determine tongue position. Speech acceptability tests were also performed. Results & Conclusions: The BG appliance was successful in breaking the finger-sucking habit. The MFT appliance showed only partial success which could be attributed to lack of compliance. At the end of treatment, the open bite was reduced in both groups due to dento-alveolar changes. The BG appliance had a deleterious effect on speech acceptability while in place, while there was no such effect with the MFT appliance.

En studie om läsintressets förutsättningar i skolan och hemmet / A study about presumptions for interests of reading in schoolGodée, Elinor, Lundgren, Helena January 2010 (has links)
The society is constantly changing, and we live in an information society where weoften get in contact with different forms of texts. Because of that we can see other typesof demands on peoples reading development. Research has shown reduced readingability in students in grade four, therefore we thought it would be interesting to gainknowledge about the condition regarding interests of reading for students in grade four, both in and outside school, which also is the purpose of this study. In this study, quantitative and qualitative methods were combined. To get the answersto what conditions are relevant to the students’ interest in reading outside the school, asurvey was made. The students’ survey responses were then used as support when theteachers thereafter were interviewed. The teachers could also provide the answers onwhat conditions are relevant to the students’ reading habits at school. The most important result of this study is that there are physical instrument andintellectual instrument. As the study is based on a socio cultural perspective, thephysical instrument can be explained as books, whilst the intellectual instrument can beexplained as interests of reading. In order to motivate students’ interest in reading, it isimportant that these instruments interact with each other.

When and what do teenagers read. : A study of teenagers' reading habits.Mukwaya, Maureen January 2012 (has links)

Students´ experience of responsibility for friends´ alcohol habits : A qualitative study at Campus HelsingborgIlar, Anna January 2011 (has links)
Ilar A. Students´ experience of responsibility for friends´ alcohol habits- a qualitative study at Campus Helsingborg. Bachelor thesis. Program in Public Health. Faculty of Health and Occupational Studies, University of Gävle; 2011. The aim of this study was to explore students’ experience of responsibility for friends´ alcohol habits, using a qualitative method. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 16 students at Campus Helsingborg and the transcriptions were analyzed using content analysis. The findings suggested that the majority (62,5 %) of the participants felt a responsibility for their friends´ alcohol habits in contexts where alcohol was consumed. Responsibility was most often built on reciprocity in the friendship and the fact that they cared about each other not to end up in harmful situations. Perceiving a responsibility did not seem to be associated with taking responsibility to help, thus helping was rather linked to how well they knew each other, if they themselves were under the influence of alcohol and the severity of the situation. Further research is needed to understand students´ experiences of responsibility for friends´ alcohol habits in other contexts. These studies would provide more information to health policy makers and Student Health Service workers as they attempt to reduce alcohol-related health problems in Swedish Universities and colleges.

Relationship among Experience marketing, brand image and purchase intention- ASUS exhibition as an exampleFu, Cong-Mao 27 June 2011 (has links)
Marketing and brand are that recent activities by enterprises can be seen the company create value through two major tools in the future. Schmitt (1999) proposed the term experience marketing, making marketing pay more attention to the purchasing experience of consumers, especially, is to create a brand experience that the brand image of the way the customer in mind. In this study, we used computer show in 2010, ASUS exhibition as an example, try to understand whether the exhibition to move consumers through experience marketing and brand image in the mind, finally exhibition to stimulate consumers to buy goods. In this study, using a variety of analysis, we can get the following conclusion:
1. ASUS notebook can be divided into two major segments; The first is to purchase the more low-cost models based on the young population, the second was the purchase of high-level notebook. The consumption of Netbook also can be divided into groups. One is to buy more low-cost group of young students and the other purchase of a second computer for the convenience.
2. Respondents considered that the best brand image which they feel for the show: Use the ASUS computer to make me feel creatively, make yourself a credible image and audio-visual experience to meet the needs of the pursuit of customers.
3. Experience marketing helps brand image building and can be predicted it. When the respondents have more good experience in experiential marketing, the more we can build a brand image. And experience marketing, brand image and purchase intention is positively related between.

Thinking beyond health to motivate dietary change: piloting a vegan healthy eating program for obesity managementBerman, Mark Alan 18 August 2004 (has links)
This pilot study assessed the feasibility, acceptability and efficacy of a novel approach to facilitating dietary change and weight loss in obese adults by presenting vegan environmental, health and farm animal treatment information in a 6 week, group-based, educational nutrition program (called a vegan healthy eating program). Twenty-nine (29) medically stable, obese adults were recruited from 3 ambulatory care clinics at UCSF and enrolled using partial randomization into one of two serially occurring intervention groups (Group 1 n=14, followed by Group 2 n=15). A delayed intervention control group (n=9) was used, consisting of participants enrolled in Group 2 who were available for collection of baseline measures prior to the start of Group 1s intervention. All intervention participants provided data immediately following their vegan healthy eating program (2 months post baseline) and again at 3 and 9 months post baseline. 10% of initial contacts (29 patients) met inclusion and exclusion criteria and were enrolled; 25 participants were retained at 3 months, 20 at 9 months. Mean intervention session satisfaction as measured by anonymous surveys using a 1-7 Likert scale (1=extremely unsatisfied, 7=extremely satisfied) was 6.2 (SD=1.1). Statistically significant reductions in calories from animal products, percent fat, cholesterol and increases in the recommended food score, fruits and vegetable servings were observed within the intervention group only, at all timepoints. Mean weight change was +2.8 lbs (3.0, n=8, p=0.035) in control participants after 4.3 weeks, and -3.4 lbs (5.0, n=25, p=0.002), -5.9 lbs (7.7, n=25, p=0.001), and -8.8 lbs (14.2, n=20, p=0.012) after 7.3, 15.6 and 41.7 weeks in intervention participants, respectively. In conclusion, this vegan healthy eating program demonstrated good feasibility, high satisfaction, and facilitated a shift towards a plant-based diet and modest, progressive short-term weight loss among intervention participants.
