EFFECTS OF HYBRID, HARVEST TIME AND HAIL DAMAGE ON CHEMICAL, NUTRITIONAL AND BIO-METHANE POTENTIAL PROPERTIES OF WHOLE PLANT CORN

GRECCHI, ISABELLA 17 March 2016 (has links)
In the Po Valley the maize crop represent one of the most cultivated plant used for cattle feeding but in the last 10 years it is also used as biogas substrate. Considering the importance of this cultivation, there is the continuous need to obtain information about this plant with the aim to improve the crop performance. There are numerous studies investigating the impact of environmental aspects and management practices on chemical and nutritional composition, and methane production in the literature but very few that evaluate those parameters together. The general objective of this thesis is to investigate how hail damage, type of hybrid and the harvesting date affect the whole plant composition. To accomplish this, two specific objectives are posed: i) verify the effects of hail damage levels on yield, chemical and nutritional feature as well as on BMP of maize grown in the Po Valley; and ii) to evaluate the value of different hybrids for animal nutrition and methane production in anaerobic fermenters and as delaying harvesting after the usual stage of maturity affects these features. It was also aimed to verify if chemical composition and in vitro digestibility tests could allow to estimate methane yield potential in maize whole plant.

Title: Actuarial and Exposure-based Models for Hail Peril Author: Bc. Matúš Drobuliak Department: Department of Probability and Mathematical Statistics Supervisor: RNDr. Michal Pešta, Ph.D., Department of Probability and Mathe- matical Statistics Abstract: This thesis covers an introduction to catastrophe modelling and focuses on statistical methods for extreme events. This includes methods of estimating parameters of claim distribution with a focus on probability weighted moments estimation technique. Furthermore, times series modelling, skew t-distribution, and two model clustering techniques are examined as well. This is later utilised in the practical application part of this thesis, which uses real data provided by an insurance company operating in the Czech Republic. Probability distribution fitting of large claims caused by hailstorms and Monte Carlo simulation of future losses are demonstrated later. Keywords: Catastrophe modelling, Hail peril, Probability weighted moments, Extreme events, ARMA-GARCH, Monte Carlo simulation iii

Hail risk management using insurance and other alternatives: case study on apple orchards in Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Yuri, Henrique Massaru 03 February 2004 (has links)
The damage caused by hailstorms is one of the most important problems faced by the apple producers, in Brazil, and in other countries. This work presents, from a literature review and local surveys within the apple producing region in Santa Catarina State, Brazil, a characterization of the hail risk problem and an evaluation of existing alternatives for risk management. The alternatives considered in the risk management process included: commercial insurance, mutual insurance, spatial diversification, antihail nets, hail rockets and ground burners. Besides, the research presents a conceptual model that uses decision diagrams to describe the qualitative relationship among the different alternatives for administration of the hail risk and the most important variables for the problem. The decision diagram guided the development of a software tool designed to help the selection of the best combination of alternatives for hail risk management. This software tool, implemented in a spreadsheet, was used in a case study involving an association of apple producers in São Joaquim, SC. The intention of this work is to aid apple producers in the selection of the most appropriate strategy for the administration of the risk of hailstorms in their orchards, aid the insurance companies in the design of new contracts in your agricultural portfolio and, also, aid the government in the development of new agricultural policies.

Realistický model oblohy / Realistic Model of the Sky

Kussior, Zdeněk January 2007 (has links)
The paper describes a theoretical base and realization of realistic volumetric clouds visualization in an environment of real-time simulator. The first part is concerned with a meteorological background of this problem. I show international classification of ten basic cloud types including a short description and cases of occurence. The following part is concerned with an interaction between cloudiness and simulation core, which is based on the fact, that each cloud acts as a mechanical or an electromagnetic obstacle. This should be considered on some way in simulation. The next part describes technologies and practical implementations of visualization and evaluates their characteristics. Finally, the last chapter describes my implementation and tries to outline project advancement.

Simulation and Physical Implementation of a Test Rig for Realistic Hail Impact Testing / Simulering och fysisk implementering av en stöttestningsrigg för realistiskt hagel

HERMANSSON, HANNA, WINQUIST DE VAL, ALMIDA January 2021 (has links)
Hail storms, with hail commonly near 50 mm in diameter that travel with storm wind sabove 25 m/s, cause damages of a large magnitude throughout the globe, with places like USA, Australia and India suffering the greatest. These damages have serious consequences, not least telecommunication products mounted in exposed places. Hail robustness is therefore important to test throughout a product development process, to reduce faulty products and maintenance costs. This thesis includes test rig concepts for hail impact testing and focuses on one final concept. The thesis includes a simulation model of the hail impact test rig, together with a physical implementation of the rig for comparison and validation. Additional experiments and statistical analysis is included to conclude on the accuracy and consistency with respect to realistic hail cases. The result shows that the simulation corresponds to the test rig. This physical implementation of the test rig is consistent and accurate for average sized hail projectiles, however varies more for hail projectiles corresponding to more severe storms.
