3	Appraisal of Dr. Broom's top management game Gibberd, John Davidson January 1970 (has links) The objective of the thesis is to examine Dr. Broom's Top Management Game. The examination covers the realism of model input output relationships, the cost of an application, the design structure utilized and the adequacy of the model presentation. Before the analysis is undertaken two analytical tools are developed. The first of these is a management game typology which provides a standardized, method for describing gaming models. The second tool is a two dimensional matrix which may be employed for design or analytical purposes. The rows of the matrix represent input for the current period and the columns output for the current period. In order to determine the feasibility of converting The Broom Game, to modular design, the structure of a modular game is outline. Dr. Broom's Game, is an educational model which employs the computer to calculate the results for a period. Though the model is supposedly total enterprise the personnel function is absent. The marketing function of the model performs in a highly unrealistic manner. Also the production function is inadequate in that no attempt is made to break production into its component parts. The cost of an application is approximately two dollars. In the authors opinion it is not feasible to convert the model to modular design. 4	A survey of the choral music of Halsey Stevens Vanderkoy, Paul Arthur January 1981 (has links) Although Halsey Stevens is a distinguished American composer whose works are widely accepted, and although he has forty-one published works for various choral combinations to his credit, of which four are conceived for combined choral and instrumental forces, there is at present no survey of this choral literature in existence. Since this music receives wide acceptance, the author has felt the need to provide a survey in the hope that the discussions and descriptions will enable choral conductors to discover a source of beautiful music, and to choose works pertinent to their own needs from this body of literature.Chapter I consists of a review of literature pertinent to Stevens and his style.Chapter II is an overview of analysis, including a discussion of analysis in relation to choral music.Chapter III presents a summary of stylistic characteristics as found in Stevens’ choral music. A discussion of the author’s conclusions ends the chapter.The survey is presented in chapters IV and V. Chapter IV deals with the short works. Those which are longer in duration, principally comprising combinations of choral and orchestral forces, constitute chapter V. Campion Suite, for a cappella choir, has been included with this section of longer works, since it is the author’s opinion that it is best performed as an entity.A brief data summary precedes discussion of each work. This summary includes publication information, date of composition, place of composition, any dedicatory information, voicings and instrumentations, sources of text, vocal ranges, and timings. The discussion of the work following the summary is intended to provide a succinct description, sufficient to enable a prospective director to decide whether the work is suitable to his performance needs. Musical examples are included to illustrate various aspects of Stevens’ style as well as to show unusual and interesting features of his music.Appendix I contains the musical examples referred to in the survey, while appendix II lists the published choral music in chronological order. 5	The deposition of silica on titanium dioxide surfaces Furlong, Donald Neil January 1975 (has links) The deposition of amorphous silica from aqueous solution on to rutile particles has been studied with the aim of elucidating the nature of the silica-titania interactions occurring and of following the progressive build up of the silica coating. The coating process, which involves the addition of an aqueous sodium silicate solution to an aqueous dispersion of titanium dioxide, has been investigated by performing a series of controlled preparations and using the technique of microelectrophoresis. Prepared silica-coated rutile samples ranging from partial to full silica coatings have been characterized using transmission electron microscopy, microelectrophoresis and nitrogen, argon and water sorption. Nitrogen and argon adsorption isotherms have been analysed using the equation of Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET). Differential energies of adsorption of nitrogen and argon have been determined calorimetrically. Water sorption isotherms have been analysed using the BET equation and the Frenkel - Halsey - Hill (FHH) equation. It has been shown that uniform silica coatings can be produced if adsorption of monomeric silica is followed by polymerization of silica at the solid/liquid interface. Surface cations on rutile may be hydroxylated or co-ordinately bound to water molecules and it appears that monomeric silica adsorbs preferentially by replacing ligand water molecules. Rutile particles with silica coatings thicker than approximately 2.5nm exhibit characteristics typical of silica and not of the base rutile. Silica coatings deposited at pH 10 contain narrow channels which are accessible to water molecules but not to nitrogen or argon. Neutralization to pH 7 reduces the volume in the coating accessible to water molecules. 541.33

Borglund, Anders January 2017 (has links) Command and control (C2) and maneuver are basics in the use of tactics and theories about warfare. This study aims to understand them better by conducting a case-study on the battle of Leyte and find if the use of them can explain the outcome of the battle. Wayne P Hughes theory about command and control and maneuver will be used. These variables were found in Hughes theory about C2: distribution of effect, conducting (of C2), aids, planning and time and timing. Regarding maneuver these variables were found: Position, time and speed. The result of the study is that the use of distribution of effect, conducting and planning as C2 and position in maneuver gave a positive outcome for the Americans.
