Daarvolgens word stres nie noodwendig in werkverband of in die mens se lewe as
negatief gesien nie, maar as optimaliseringsmoontlikheid ten einde positiewe stres- en
coping-uitkomstes te bewerkstellig. Hierdie navorsing het ten doel die ondersoek na die
verband tussen Salutogenese en Werkorientasie as optimaliseringskonstrukte.
Salutogenese is ondersoek deur onder andere te fokus op
o Sin vir Koherensie
o Persoonlikheidsgehardheid
o Aangeleerde Vindingrykheid.
Werkorientasie is ondersoek deur onder andere te fokus op
o Organisasieverbintenis
o Werkbetrokkenheid
o Werkbevrediging.
In die merra~uurron~dlerrsoelk is 'n persoonlikheidsprofiel van die optimaal-funksionerende
mens saamgestel uit die eienskappe van die Salutogeniese mens en die optimaalfunksionerende
werknemer, volgens intrapersoonlike (kognitiewe, affektiewe, konatiewe
en fisiese) en interpersoonlike eienskappe.
In die empirriese cmdlerrsoelk is 'n battery bestaande uit meetinstrumente van die
konsepte, na studente uitgestuur. Die steekproef (N = 934) is in twee groepe verdeel,
te wete Blankes en Ander, ten einde betekenisvolle resultate te verkry. Die battery is
gefaktoranaliseer, alfa-koeffisiente is bepaal en items is geselekteer waarop die
resultate gebaseer is: Produkmomentkorrelasies tussen die konsepte is vir elke groep
bepaal, asook beduidende verskille tussen groepe. LISREL-ontledings is gedoen ten
einde die konseptualisering van die twee konstrukte te bepaal.
Uit die empiriese bevindings blyk dit dat die verskillende konsepte onderling verband
hou en die konstrukte verteenwoordig. Hieruit kon 'n profiel van die Salutogeniese mens
en die optimaal-funksionerende werknemer volgens intra- en interpersoonlike
eienskappe opgestel word. Die verband wat die LISREL-ontledings tussen die twee
konstrukte bevind het, het die integrering daarvan tot persoonlikheidsprofiel van die
optimaal-funksionerende mens, bevestig. Laastens is die empiriese bevindings met die
literatuurprofiel ge"integreer en daar is bevind dat daar grootliks ooreenstemming tussen
die literatuur en die empiriese bevindings bestaan.
Met die navorsing is bevind dat Salutogenese en Werkorientasie as twee afsonderlike
konstrukte bestaansreg het, maar dat dit wei oak beduidend verband met mekaar hou.
Met die integrering van die literatuur en die empiriese bevindings, is daar tot die gevolgtrekking
gekom dat die verband tussen die twee konstrukte optimalisering simboliseer.
Dit figureer as intra- en interpersoonlike eienskappe by die optimaal-funksionerende
mens. / Salutogenesis is a new approach which replaces the old pathogenic paradigm. In terms
of this approach, stress need not necessarily be viewed negatively in the workplace or
in the private lives of man, but as an opportunity for optimisation which can lead to
positive outcomes regarding stress and coping. The purpose of this research was to
investigate the relationship between Salutogenesis and Work Orientation as two
constructs of optimisation.
Salutogenesis was investigated by focusing on:
o Sense of Coherence
o Hardiness
o Learned Resourcefulness.
Work Orientation was investigated by focusing on:
o Organisational Commitment
o Job Involvement
o Job Satisfaction.
In the literature survey, the personality profile of the optimally functioning person was
compiled, using the integration of the personality profile of the Salutogenic person with
the personality orientation profile of the optimally functioning worker. This was done
according to intrapersonal {cognitive, affective, conative and physical) and interpersonal
characteristics.
In the empirical investigation a battery of questionnaires dealing with the various
concepts was mailed to students. The sample {N=934) was divided into two groups,
namely Whites and Others, in order to obtain meaningful results. The battery was
subjected to factor-analysis and coefficient alpha was calculated in order to select items
on which the results could be based. Product-moment correlations for each group were
calculated for the various concepts and significant differences were determined.
LISREL-analyses were performed to conceptualise the two constructs.
The empirical findings indicate that the different concepts which constitute the two
different constructs are interrelated. The relationship between the two constructs was
confirmed by a LISREL-analysis, thus validating the integration of the two constructs
into a personality profile of the optimally functioning person according to intra- and
interpersonal characteristics. The empirical constructs could finally be integrated with
the literature profile.
The research established that Salutogenesis and Work Orientation should be regarded
as independent, yet related constructs. The integration of the literature and the
empirical findings suggests that both constructs symbolise optimisation and manifest

Confirmatory factor analysis on the measurement of six salutogenetic constructsBaloyi, Joyce 06 1900 (has links)
The aim of this dissertation is to establish the factor structure of six salutogenic
constructs. The six constructs are conceptualised form the salutogenic paradigm -
namely sense of coherence, hardiness, self-efficacy, learned resourcefulness, locus of
control and potency. A personality profile of the salutogenic functioning person as well
as relevant international and South African research are presented.
Measurements for the six constructs and biographical data are administered to a
representative sample of 100 administrative officers. The instruments were found to be
reliable in this study.
Pearson product moment correlations indicated that salutogenesis does not
differentiate between gender, race or qualification, and that coping ability increases with
age. Factor analysis indicated a distinct three factor structure consisting of sense of
coherence, hardiness and a combination of self-efficacy and potency (self-control).
Confirmatory factor analysis indicated a good fit confirming the literature on and

The context of this research is the coping and wellness of call centre agents in a characteristically high-stress work environment. The purpose of the study was to construct a psychological coping profile by investigating the relationship between individuals‘ wellness-related dispositional attributes and their resiliency-related behavioural capacities which has been under researched in a call centre work environment. A quantitative cross-sectional survey approach was followed. The population comprised predominantly of a non –probability sample of (N=409) predominantly early career permanently employed black females employed in call centres in Africa. Correlation and multivariate statistics highlighted cognitive (cynicism and hardy-control), affective (managing own emotions) and conative (hardy-commitment) behavioural elements that should be considered in the psychological coping profile of call centre agents. Age and gender were also shown to be significant moderators of the relationship between the wellness-related attributes and the resiliency-related capacities. The main findings are reported and interpreted in terms of an empirically derived psychological coping profile. Title: Psychic load as a distinctive and inseperable component of lifeguarding service Aim of thesis: Aim of thesis is to explore perception of psychic workload by lifeguards in Czech republic and to extract basic psychological aspects of their job by statistical analysis based on retrieved data. This research also seeks for distinctions in perception of psychic workload between different groups of employees sorted by age, gender, qualification and other characteristics, such as diverse work environment or collective team size, and compares acquired results with other studies targeted on the same problematic in other work branches. Method: To retrieve data were used three questionnaires, which where spreaded electronically in cooperation with secretaryship of Water Rescue Service of Czech Red Cross and tens of pool operators throughout all the Czech republic. All the responses were descriptively and analytically processed using SPSS 17 programme and standardised statistical methods. Hardiness and Job Fitness for the Intensive Family Preservation Specialist: A Correlational StudyFisher, Sandi 01 January 1998 (has links)
It is costly to train the counselors who serve in intensive Family Preservation Services (IFPS). The hiring agency must pay for traveling expenses in addition to any fee paid for training. When an IFPS worker chooses to terminate employment before the end of two years of employment, this puts a strain on an already tight budget. This problem could be alleviated by finding an efficient pre-hire screening instrument. The three personality traits described in Hardiness Theory literature: commitment, challenge, and control, are traits often used to describe the ideal IFPS worker. This study assessed IFPS workers to determine if the competent IFPS worker possessed these traits and to discover if they are satisfied with their work, and not suffering from symptoms of burnout. Twenty null hypotheses were formulated. Fifty-eight specialists from the Tennessee Home Ties programs completed: (a) a demographic survey; (b) the Personal Views Survey to measure Hardiness; (c) the Maslach Burnout Inventory; and (d) the Job In General scale to measure job satisfaction. Supervisors provided a copy of the Therapist Evaluation Form to measure employee competence. Eight specialists and three directors participated in additional telephone interviews. The Pearson product-moment coefficient of correlation statistic was used to determine statistically significant relationships between pairs of research variables. Nineteen of the 20 null hypotheses were rejected. The results of the study support the existence of a relationship between hardiness and competence, burnout, and job satisfaction. Pearson product-moment correlations were obtained to ascertain if a statistically significant relationship existed between any of the research variables and the demographic variables. Weak positive relationships were found between age and competence and between years of service and competence.

<p>Kukuruzni plamenca (<em>Ostrinia nubilalis</em>, Hbn.) je vrsta umerenog klimatskog područja <br />koja niske zimske temperature preživljava ulaskom u dijapauzu u stadijumu gusenice. Dijapauza i otpornost na hladnoću (cold hardiness, eng.), kod mnogih insekatskih vrsta često predstavljaju esencijalne, tesno povezane komponente strategije preživljavanja delovanja niske temperature, kao što je to slučaj i kod kukuruznog plamenca <em>Ostrinia nubilalis</em>, Hbn. U okviru grupe insekata otpornih na hladnoću, svrstava se u insekte otporne na zamrzavanje (freeze tolerant, eng.) jer su sposobne da prežive ekstracelularno zamrzavanje telesnih tečnosti.</p><p>Iako se o osnovnim strukturnim i metaboličkim dešavanjima u dijapauzi insekata već dosta zna, još uvek postoje brojne dileme o ovom vidu preživljavanja insekata u nepovoljnim uslovima sredine, posebno sa aspekta izloženosti niskim zimskim temperaturama i mehanizmima krioprotekcije. Zbog toga je cilj ove doktorske disertacije bio da se sa aspekta biofizičkih osobina lipida i sastava masnih kiselina: odrede biofizičke osobine (temperature faznog prelaza) ukupnih lipida nedijapauzirajućih i dijapauzirajućih gusenica tokom dijapauze (početak, sredina i kraj), kao i u kontrolisanim uslovima hlađenja dijapauzirajućih gusenica; zatim da se odredi zastupljenost pojedinih klasa lipida u hemolimfi i masnom telu nedijapauzirajućih i dijapauzirajućih gusenica; da se utvrde promene sastava masnih kiselina strukturne (polarne) i rezervne (nepolarne) frakcije lipida celih gusenica tokom dijapauze i pod uticajem različitih temperatura u eksperimentalnim uslovima; kao i da se odredi tkivna specifičnost, hemolimfe i masnog tela, masnih kiselina ukupnih lipida i biofizičke osobine ukupnih lipida masnog tela nedijapauzirajućih i dijapauzirajućih gusenica tokom dijapauze, kao i u kontrolisanim uslovima hlađenja dijapauzirajućih gusenica. </p><p>U analizi lipida kukuruznog plamenca <em>Ostrinia nubilalis</em>, Hbn. korišćene su sledeće tehnike: tankoslojna hromatografija (TLC) sa skenirajućom denzitometrijom, za razdvajanje i analizu klasa lipida; zatim gasno-masena hromatografija (GC-MS), za analizu masnih kiselina kao i diferencijalna skenirajuća kalorimetrija (DSC – differential scanning calorimetry, eng.), za termalnu analizu ekstrahovanih lipida.</p><p>Kod gusenica <em>Ostrinia nubilalis</em> sastav masnih kiselina ukupnih lipida analiziranih tkiva i lipidnih frakcija značajno se razlikuje između ova dva fiziološka stanja, stanja dijapauze i nedijapauze. Dijapauza indukuje značajno povećanje sadržaja mononezasićenih masnih kiselina, pre svega palmitoleinske (16:1n-7) i oleinske masne kiseline (18:1n-9) uz istovremeno smanjenje sadržaja zasićenih i polinezasićenih masnih kiselina, pre svega palmitinske (16:0) i linolne masne kiseline (18:2n-6). Temperature faznog prelaza ukupnih lipida celih gusenica i masnog tela značajno su niže kod dijapauzirajućih gusenica <em>O. nubilalis</em>, usled značajnog povećanja stepena nezasićenosti masnih kiselina u njihovom sastavu. Značajno niže temperature faznog prelaza lipida dijapauzirajućih gusenica <em>O.<br />nubilalis</em> rezultat su povećanja stepena nezasićenosti njihovih masnih kiselina. Možemo zaključiti da su promene u sastavu masnih kiselina lipida indukovane dijapauzom važna komponenta preživljavanja niskih temperatura kod <em>O. nubilalis</em> Hbn. jer se veliki deo lipida održava u tečnom stanju čak i na temperaturama daleko ispod 0°C, što je neophodno za održavanje njihove fluidnosti odnosno funkcionalnosti.</p> / <p>European corn borer (<em>Ostrinia nubilalis</em>, Hbn.) inhabiting temperate regions that survive low winter temperatures as a diapausing fifth instar larva. Diapausing larvae are cold hardy and freeze tolerant as they are able to survive the extracellular formation of ice crystals. Winter survival for many insect species living in seasonally cold environments includes a radical remodeling of metabolism. This implies entry into a developmentally arrested, hypometabolic state of winter diapause, which in <em>O. nubilalis</em> and many other insect species of these habitats is closely related to their cold hardiness.</p><p>Although the basic structural and metabolic events consider insect diapause is already known, there are still many doubts about the survival of insects in an unfavorable environment, particularly in terms of exposure to low winter temperatures and mechanisms of cryoprotection. Therefore, the aim of this thesis in terms of biophysical properties of lipids and fatty acid compositions, was to: i) to determine the biophysical properties (phase transition temperatures) of the total lipids of non-diapausing larvae and diapausing larvae during diapause (early diapause, mid diapause and termination of diapause), as well as under controlled cooling conditions during different phases of diapause; ii) to determine the fatty acid compositions of structural (polar) and storage (non-polar) total lipid fractions of non-diapausing larvae and diapausing larvae, as well as under the influence of different <br />temperatures during diapause in the controled experimental conditions; iii) to determine the lipid classes composition of total lipids extracted from the haemolymph and fat body of non-diapausing and diapausing larvae; iiii) to determine the haemolymph and fat body total lipid fatty acid compositions as well as the biophysical properties of the fat body total lipids of non-diapausing larvae and diapausing larvae during diapause as well as in terms of controlled cooling conditions. Thus, our research was focused on the non-diapausing (ND) as well as the diapausing larvae (D) that were exposed to low temperatures during different phases of diapause.</p><p>During analysis of European corn borer <em>O. nubilalis</em> lipids, the following techniques was used: thin layer chromatography (TLC) with scanning densitometry, for the separation and quantification of lipid classes; gas-mass chromatography (GC-MS ) for the analysis of the fatty acid composition of lipids and the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), for the thermal analysis of the extracted lipids.</p><p>The fatty acid compositions and biophysical properties of lipids differed markedly between non-diapausing and diapausing larvae of <em>O. nubilalis</em>. Diapause was associated with a dramatic increase mainly the proportions of palmitoleic acid (16:1n-7) and oleic acid (18:1n-9), with concurrent reductions in palmitic acid (16:0) and linoleic acid (18:2n-6). The increase in the level of unsaturation of lipids, which caused a marked shift in their phase transitions to lower temperatures, was triggered by diapause rather than low temperatures. Adjustments of fatty acid compositions are likely to be an important component of winter diapause mechaisms, possibly maintaining the fluidity of cell membranes, and the functionality of the organism during lower winter temperatures. We conclude that <em>O. nubilalis </em>undergoes remodeling of fatty acid profiles of lipids as an element of its overwintering physiology which may improve the ability to harden during diapause.</p>
