A realização deste texto envolve um exercício interdisciplinar, que possui o intuito de perceber a forma pela qual os escritos de si são reveladores de sensibilidades sobre a loucura. A partir do diálogo da História Cultural com a Literatura e com a Psicologia Analítica lançam-se luzes nas fontes da ficção e dá-se a voz ao próprio louco. Ele conta sua história. Ele expressa sua sensibilidade sobre sua doença, sobre o meio que o abriga e sobre o mundo em que vive. São analisados três conjuntos de textos - romance, diário e cartas – que versam sobre loucura e internações em hospícios. Revisitando a história da psiquiatria brasileira nas primeiras três décadas do século XX e cruzando com a vida e obra dos três autores e de personagens da ficção, em que alguns escrevem seus textos durante hospitalização em manicômio, descortinam-se nuanças na sensibilidade fina destes escritores. Alguns aspectos deste longo processo de rupturas e permanências, que foi o complexo movimento de institucionalização da loucura no Brasil, poderão ser percebidos e avaliados sob um outro enfoque, desde dentro dos escritos de pessoas que, de alguma forma, se viram envolvidas com esta temática. A literatura, neste sentido, aparece como uma fonte profícua para este fim. / The present text is an interdisciplinary exercise. It aims at showing that self-writings can reveal sensibility about madness. The sources of fiction are enlightened and the mad is given voice from the dialog established among Cultural History, Literature and Analytical Psychology. The mad himself tells his history. He expresses his sensibility about his sickness, about the environment that surrounds him and about the world in which he lives. Three groups of texts are analyzed – novels, diaries and letters about madness and admissions in mental hospitals. By revisiting the history of Brazilian Psychiatry in the early decades of the 20th century and by crossing these pieces of information with the lives of the three authors studied and their fiction characters – some of them wrote their texts during hospitalization – one can notice nuances in the fine sensibility of these authors. Some aspects of this long process of rupture and permanence, which was the complex movement of the institutionalization of madness in Brazil, can be seen and evaluated under another focus – from inside the writings of people who, in a certain way, saw themselves involved with this theme. Literature, in this sense, comes up as one useful source for this aim.

La globalización y las tecnologías de intercambio de información han permitido obtener fácilmente referencias arquitectónicas de cualquier parte del mundo. Esto hace más fácil seguir las últimas tendencias del diseño arquitectónico, y aplicarlos en cualquier lugar geográfico. Importa mucho mas la arquitectura del tiempo que la del lugar, esta postura lleva a cometer grandes errores en la imagen urbana de múltiples ciudades. En un Chile con grandes montañas, bosques vírgenes y campos fértiles pero también el desierto más árido del mundo, con miles kilómetros de costa, y niños bañándose gracias a grifos abiertos en una ciudad seca y calurosa en verano. Es imprescindible considerar el contexto físico, y desde ahí proponer una arquitectura acorde al tiempo. Una de las cosas que aprendí de la cosmovisión del indígena local, es que los polos opuestos se necesitan y pueden trabajar por un bien común.

[pt] O objetivo da dissertação é, a partir da obra de Maura Lopes Cançado, entender de que forma a escrita pode engendrar modos de fuga em uma situação aparentemente sem saída - como por exemplo, a internação em um hospital psiquiátrico, onde a escritora passou boa parte de sua vida. Hospício-deus é como Maura denomina esta sensação de clausura, que não se resume ao fato de estar internada, mas à outras experiências subjetivas, mais sutis e, por isso mesmo, mais difíceis de escapar. No entanto, é necessário fugir, pois é o próprio desespero de fuga e o desejo de evasão, que compõem a força motriz da sua escrita. Fez-se necessário neste trabalho, portanto, mapear a geografia do hospício-deus, em suas diferentes imagens, para elaborar através do diálogo entre o diário, a obra ficcional, e a leitura crítica, a melhor maneira de escapar a ele. / [en] The purpose of this work is, trough de writings of Maura Lopes Cançado, understand how literature is able to create ways of escape in situations where there are not, at least apparently, any exits, such as the confinement in a psychiatric hospital, where the writer spent most of her life. Asylum- god is how Maura called this sensation of enclosure, related also to other subjective experiences, more subtle and therefore more difficult to escape. However, it is necessary to flee, as it is the very despair of escape and the desire of evasion, the driving force of her writing. It was necessary in this work, therefore, to map the geography of this asylum-god to develop through the dialogue between the diary, the fictional work, and the literary criticism, the best way to evade.

[pt] O trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a loucura na cidade do Rio de Janeiro no final do século XIX e início do século XX, bem como os temas que com ela se relacionam tais como raça, alcoolismo e hereditariedade, através da lente do escritor-paciente Afonso Henriques de Lima Barreto, privilegiando os escritos ficcionais e autobiográficos do autor. A pesquisa procurou inserir o registro do particular, isto é, de um indivíduo que sofreu na própria pele a discriminação e o tratamento destinado aos que eram considerados doentes mentais, de forma que o estudo possa ser visto e examinado dentro de uma perspectiva mais ampla. A dissertação foi dividida em três momentos: a tentativa de estabelecer uma analogia entre a experiência da loucura e aquela vivida por todos os habitantes do Rio de Janeiro nos primeiros anos do século XX, a análise das concepções médicas e científicas sobre a loucura e a presença do tema nos textos do autor e, por último, o convívio do romancista com a loucura no espaço doméstico e também no Hospício Nacional de Alienados. / [en] The present study aims at analyzing mental diseases in the city of Rio de Janeiro at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as the issues related to madness, such as race, alcoholism and heredity, through the eyes of the writerpatient Afonso Henriques de Lima Barreto, mainly through his fiction and autobiographic writings. The present analysis tried to include individual records, i.e. records of a man who was segregated and treated according to the procedures given to the mentally sick at that time, so that the research could be carried out within a broader perspective. The dissertation consists of three parts: the attempt to establish similarities between the experience of madness and the experience lived by the population in Rio de Janeiro during the first years of the 20th century, the analysis of scientific information and doctors` concepts on mental disturbance and the presence of the theme in the writer`s works and last, the writer`s experience with madness both at home and at the asylum Hospício Nacional de Alienados.
