A Modified Genetic Algorithm and Switch-Based Neural Network Model Applied to Misuse-Based Intrusion Detection

Stewart, IAN 17 March 2009 (has links)
As our reliance on the Internet continues to grow, the need for secure, reliable networks also increases. Using a modified genetic algorithm and a switch-based neural network model, this thesis outlines the creation of a powerful intrusion detection system (IDS) capable of detecting network attacks. The new genetic algorithm is tested against traditional and other modified genetic algorithms using common benchmark functions, and is found to produce better results in less time, and with less human interaction. The IDS is tested using the standard benchmark data collection for intrusion detection: the DARPA 98 KDD99 set. Results are found to be comparable to those achieved using ant colony optimization, and superior to those obtained with support vector machines and other genetic algorithms. / Thesis (Master, Computing) -- Queen's University, 2009-03-03 13:28:23.787

Evaluation des systèmes de détection d'intrusion

Gad El Rab, Mohammed 15 December 2008 (has links) (PDF)

Bernichi, Mâamoun 30 November 2009 (has links) (PDF)

An intrusion detection system for supervisory control and data acquisition systems

Hansen, Sinclair D. January 2008 (has links)
Despite increased awareness of threats against Critical Infrastructure (CI), securing of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems remains incomplete. The majority of research focuses on preventative measures such as improving communication protocols and implementing security policies. New attempts are being made to use commercial Intrusion Detection System (IDS) software to protect SCADA systems. These have limited effectiveness because the ability to detect specific threats requires the context of the SCADA system. SCADA context is defined as any information that can be used to characterise the current status and function of the SCADA system. In this thesis the standard IDS model will be used with the varying SCADA data sources to provide SCADA context to a signature and anomaly detection engine. A novel addition to enhance the IDS model will be to use the SCADA data sources to simulate the remote SCADA site. The data resulting from the simulation is used by the IDS to make behavioural comparison between the real and simulated SCADA site. To evaluate the enhanced IDS model the specific context of a water and wastewater system is used to develop a prototype. Using this context it was found that the inflow between sites has similar diurnal characteristic to network traffic. This introduced the idea of using inflow data to detect abnormal behaviour for a remote wastewater site. Several experiments are proposed to validate the prototype using data from a real SCADA site. Initial results show good promise for detecting abnormal behaviour and specific threats against water and wastewater SCADA systems.

The incorporation of eco-innovations in the productive activities of a company can enhance the achievement of economic, environmental and social benefits. With reference to productive activities of mango developed in the Submédio São Francisco region, which are held, largely to meet the foreign market, and therefore need to be accomplished efficiently and at the same time must comply with criteria quality to ensure food safety and environmental criteria, to minimize the impact of the activity; it is considered that the use of eco-innovations in mango production companies in the region can contribute to the sustainability of this activity. In this sense, this research objective was to analyze the benefits of eco-innovations adopted in the mango production activities of the Submédio São Francisco region and its contributions to the sustainability of agriculture. To support the analyses in both constructs were used: for identification and characterization of eco-innovations and their benefits we used the typology of eco-innovations by Könnölä, Carrillo-Hermosilla and Gonzalez (2008); and to analyze the sustainability of productive activities of mango in the region, we used the methodology of calculation of Sustainable Development Index – SDI, by Sepúlveda (2008). From the adaptation of theoretical models aimed at implementing the activities of production mango, we developed a data collection instrument, semi-structured type form, to guide the visits to companies in the sector in the region in order to collect information on variables set to assess the relationship between adoption of eco-innovations and sustainability of agriculture. Were visited ten companies exporters of mango to collect primary data. In accordance with the defined parameters or the weight scale, these data were subjected to qualitative and/or quantitative analysis. As an application of the results of the eco-innovation model in production mango in the Submédio São Francisco region, found that the amount of eco-innovations adopted by companies is low in relation to the possibilities available in the five dimensions of the model and, the type of benefits of eco-innovations adopted is predominantly economic. The result of the SDI for productive activities of mango in the region was 0.51, featuring the unstable state of this activity. Thus, it was found that there is an effective relationship between the presence of eco-innovations and the state of sustainability of productive activities of mango in the region because, as few ecoinnovations were adopted, prioritizing the economic benefits, this was reflected in the evaluation of SDI of activity, which indicated the state of the mango production in the region as "unstable", in terms of sustainability.

Vybrané psychologické aspekty vývoje dětí z homoparentálních rodin / Developmental aspects of children from homoparental families

Medová, Julie January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on selected aspects influencing the psychological development of children in homoparental families. The motivation to investigate these aspects is the growing number of children raised in homoparental families, which in turn evokes a debate in our society about possible impacts on the psychological and social development of these children. The aim of this diploma thesis is to determine level of socio-emotional competencies of children in homoparental families and to discover possible differences in their development. This goal was achieved by testing the socio-emotional competencies of a sample of four school-aged children using a standard IDS test and a questionnaire focusing on a challenging school and life situation. To deepen the knowledge about the families and the understanding of the background of upbringing, biographical and anamnestic core data questionnaire was sent to the families before personal meetings and also each child and one or both of his mothers were interviewed. The results of the tests and the questionnaires show no deviation of children raised in homoparental families from the average of heteronormative society in the field of the recognition and regulation of emotions, understanding of social situations and socially competent behavior. A study of Centralized Network Intrusion Detection System using low end single board computers

Andersson, Michael, Mickols, Andreas January 2017 (has links)
The use of Intrusion Detection Systems is a normal thing today in bigger companies, butthe solutions that are to be found in market is often too expensive for the smallercompany. Therefore, we saw the need in investigating if there is a more affordablesolution. In this report, we will show that it is possible to use low cost single boardcomputers as part of a bigger centralized Intrusion Detection System. To investigate this,we set up a test system including 2 Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, a cloud server and the use oftwo home networks, one with port mirroring implemented in firmware and the other withdedicated span port. The report will show how we set up the environment and the testingwe have done to prove that this is a working solution.

Porovnání výsledků kookurenční databanky (CCDB) a kookurenční analýzy / Comparing results of the co-occurrence database (CCDB) and the co-occurrence analysis

Křesťanová, Jitka January 2017 (has links)
This paper deals with corpus linguistics. There are two applications under its scrutiny. Both of these applications are processing data from the corpus DeReKo via corpus-driven approach. It is a co-occurrence analysis and a Co-occurrence database. The aim of the work is to evaluate whether the results obtained by the co-occurrence analysis of the current scope of DeReKo are different from the results of the Co-occurrence database, which was created on a basis of a smaller scale corpus. In addition, this thesis offers illustrative examples of the use of both applications and the evaluation of their effectiveness, depending on the purpose of the research. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the terminology of corpus linguistics and with the mentioned corpuses, which serve as a basis for the practical part of the thesis. The empirical part of the thesis consists of analyses of the randomly picked words (one from each word class) in both applications. The results confirm that the data obtained with Co-occurrence database and co-occurrence analysis are in many respects different and thus confirm the hypothesis that the corpus size plays a crucial role in the results. Both applications have their advantages and disadvantages. The paper offers a comprehensive overview and by doing so it...
