Integrated Sensing and Communicationusing OFDM and Stepped FMCWSignals : Proof-of-Concept and Evaluation with Software DefinedRadios

Poluri, Sai Chetan, Dunuka, Tejaswi January 2023 (has links)
The thesis work shows the implementation of sensing and communication, so a basic knowledge of analog and digital communication systems is needed to understand this paper Background. With the increase in smart devices, the bandwidth requirements are increased, which created congestion in the radio spectrum resources. To overcome this spectrum congestion, Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) can be used. This can be achieved by using Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signals. In ISAC, both sensing and communication use the same resources, which in turn predominantly improves the efficiency of the spectrum resources usage and reduces the cost of hardware. Objectives. The main aim of this research is to integrate radar sensing and communication using Software Defined Radios (SDR) and GNU Radio. The goal is to design a signal waveform and a receiver algorithm supporting both sensing and communications and then carry out experiments on an SDR unit to evaluate the functionality and performance. Methods. Experimentation is used in this research and is conducted at Ericsson Research Laboratory. The experiment is divided into three major parts. First, to test the sensing functionalities using Frequency Modulated Continuous Waves (FMCW). Second, to test the communication functionalities using OFDM signals. Third, to design the receiver algorithm and signal waveform for ISAC. To verify the dual functional paradigm, the results from the ISAC are compared with the individual test results of sensing and communications using FMCW and OFDM signals. Results. A receiver algorithm is designed to calculate the sensing range and BER of ISAC using an SDR. The results show the possibility of implementing ISAC using OFDM in GNU Radio with SDR. The thesis project can also be viewed as a proof of concept for ISAC on SDR, helping in providing useful information related to radar sensing and communication using OFDM and performance evaluation. Conclusions. The experimental results show the dual-functional waveform for ISAC, helping in the evolution of 5G and beyond 5G communication systems. The identified drawbacks can be used by future researchers working on advanced 5G mobile communication systems to develop more efficient systems. Keywords: Communications, FMCW, GNU Radio, ISAC, OFDM, SDR, Sensing.

GEANT4 Simulations and Experimental Tests of a Silicon CD Detector

Chen, Jun 02 1900 (has links)
<p> In nuclear astrophysics, there are still undiscovered areas involving unstable nuclei, like the nucleosynthesis in exploding stars. The unstable nuclei are extremely difficult to produce in the laboratory for study since they decay away quickly once they are formed. To make the unstable nuclei available in the laboratory, Canada has built one of the best facilities in the world for nuclear astrophysics studies with radioactive beams, called TRIUMF-ISAC. Its recent upgrade to ISAC-2 can produce even heavier radioactive beams with higher energy. To fully utilize the ISAC-2 facility, a high-segmented HPGe γ-ray detector-TIGRESS, has been developed to study exotic nuclei using the well-established technique of Coulomb Excitation.</p> <p> As an essential part of the TIGRESS facility, auxiliary detectors, such as silicon detectors, are used to improve the sensitivity of the experiments through Doppler correction. Two types of silicon detectors will be used. One is the CD-shaped double-sided silicon strip detector, which is the topic of this thesis. The other one is the silicon barrel detector. This thesis will discuss the computer simulations and experimental tests of the CD detector.</p> <p> Simulations were made using a simulation toolkit GEANT4, which was run under the Linux system. The goal was to test the hypothesis that measurements of the energies of heavy ions in Coulomb excitation may improve the Doppler correction by constraining the scattering location in a thick target. To test the performance of the simulated CD detector, simple simulations were performed for shooting calibration alpha particles from an 241Am source first directly onto the CD and second through a thin target onto the CD. The goal of additional simulations was to attempt to determine the corresponding scattering depth in a thick target by putting an energy cut on the spectrum of the scattered beam detected in the CD. These simulation results verify the possibility of such localization, though the resolution is not very good.</p> <p> Experimental tests for the CD detector are aimed to obtain the energy resolution for each strip element of the CD and to have at least 8 channels instrumented in our test lab before this detector is sent to TIGRESS facility. The test station including electronics and detector systems and all results from initial tests are described in detail in this thesis.</p> / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

Analýza a převod kódů do vyššího programovacího jazyka / Code Analysis and Transformation To a High-Level Language

Křoustek, Jakub Unknown Date (has links)
This paper describes methods and procedures used for code analysis and transformation. It contains basic information of a science discipline called reverse engineering and its use in information technologies. The primary objective is a construction of a generic reverse compiler or decompiler, i.e. tool that can recompile from binary form (optionally from symbolic machine code) to a high level language. This operation is highly dependent on the concrete instruction set and processor architecture. This problem is solved with description of semantic of each instruction by a special language designed for this use. The output is the high level language code and is functionally equivalent to the input. The program is therefore able to work with each instruction set and code written by it can be transformed into the chosen high level language. This proposal is implemented in practice as a part of project Lissom. Generic decompiler is completely new idea. The thesis contains entirely new techniques from theory of compilers and optimizations made by the author.

A comparative study on Traditional Software Development Methods and Agile Software Development Methods

Aslam, Gulshan, Farooq, Faisal January 2011 (has links)
Everyone is talking about the software development methods but these methods are categorised into the different parts and the most important are two categories, one is agile software development methods and second is using the traditional software development methods. Agile software methods are relatively considered to be quick and for the small teams. Our main mission is to check which method is better from each other, so for that purpose we go out in the software development market to meet the professional to ask about their satisfaction on these software development methods. Our research is based on to see the suitable method for the professionals; see the challenges on the adoptability of methods and which method is quicker. To perform this study we have gone through a survey questionnaire, and results are analysed by using mixed method approach. Results shows that professionals from both types of methods are satisfied but professionals with traditional methods are more satisfy with their methods with respect to development of quality software, whereas agile professionals are more satisfied with their methods with respect of better communication with their customers. With agility point of view, our study says that both methods have characteristics which support agility but not fully support, so in such case we need to customize features from both types of methodologies.

Implementace obecného assembleru / Implementation of General Assembler

Husár, Adam January 2007 (has links)
This thesis describes the design of the universal assembler that represents a part of the Lissom project. You will be provided with the description of the assembler architectures and their usual tasks. Special attention is paid to GNU assembler. Designed assembler consists of the fixed and the generated part. The generated part is created automatically from the description of instruction set, that is defined using architecture and instructions set description language ISAC. Using this approach, it is possible to change assembler target architecture automatically. The second part of thesis describes the Parserlib2 library implementation that is a part of the Lissom project and provides the information about the target instruction set for an assembler generator.

Rekonfigurovatelná analýza strojového kódu / Retargetable Analysis of Machine Code

Křoustek, Jakub Unknown Date (has links)
