IT Process and Governance Framework Adoption in Ghanaian Firms; Extent of Progress and Influencing Factors

Lumor, Truth January 2012 (has links)
Gradually, the physical and geographically restricted marketplace is eroding and giving room to a more vibrant and competitive virtual marketplace – J.F Rayport and J.J Sviokla referred to it as the ―marketspace‖ (J.F. Payport, 1995). Technological advancement is the causative agent of this rapid change. As customers become increasingly complex and find sustained satisfaction in the marketspace, pressure keeps mounting on enterprises to adjust and seek suitable dance to the new rhythm. More prepared enterprises like e-bay and FEDEX have taken advantage of this rapid change to emerge competitive in the marketspace whist others dawdle behind. Enterprises especially in developing economies like Ghana, are increasingly investing enterprise resources in IT infrastructure, and accompanying applications and services to take advantage of the new marketplace and emerge competitive nationally and perhaps, in the process, gain global competitiveness. Are firms having strategic frameworks that guide these investments? And what are the factors that influence the adoption of these frameworks? Are there enabling national and firm level mechanisms to support IT investments? These are the questions that the research seeks to respond to. The research discovered Ghana’s strategic initiatives aimed at providing enabling infrastructure, regulatory and business environment to support the adoption of ICTs into public and civil service, and to also promote the performance and competitiveness of its industries and firms. At firm level, the research investigated the factors that influence the adaptation and effective implementation of IT Governance frameworks in enterprises. The research found education, external business environment, and extent of IT investment, statistically significant in driving IT process and governance framework adoption. It was therefore, recommended that regulatory institutions, educational institutions, market players and managers of firms contribute to the enhancement of these predictor variables to further improve ICT, IT process and IT governance framework adoption in Ghana. It was also recommended that later research should be undertaken to re-evaluate the performance and progress made by Ghanaian firms, and to possibly discover other drivers of ICT, ITprocess and IT governance framework adoption. / IT Process and Governance framework adoption in Ghana is relatively new. The research identifies Education, Level of IT investment and the Business Environment to be the most influential factors in promoting IT process and governance framework adoption in Ghana. / +233-246655744 / +233 - 201111216

Tarbajovský, Maroš January 2009 (has links)
The main objective of this thesis is to meet Governance as a new approach in company organization, especially in IT sector. The idea is about harmonization of IT and business strategy, that should ensure achieving company goals and missions, and lead company in the right direction of advancement, what is directly connected with implementation of relevant measures of IT processes. As chapter "Governance", is describing how this approach should by ensure in whole organization on a different levels. We can translate Governance as implementation of certain best practices and procedures that lead company to process standardization and formalization. The most exercising methodologies and guidelines in IT sphere as ITIL, Val IT, CobiT, ISO 27000 are reviewed in thesis. By these methodologies organizations should be able to better optimize processes and accomplish regulation frame in particular industry. Another very important contribution of process standardization is by providing better possibilities for measurement and assessment, that is reviewed in chapter "Evaluation of IT processes performance". There is also transparent guideline which provides a simple steps procedure how to implement IT Governance in organization using CobiT and Vat IT. As this branch is relatively "young", especially in Czech Republic, management is still familiarizing with it. Last chapter is dedicated to analyze approach to ITG in Czech Republic banking sector.

Metody ocenění a hodnocení IT investic / Methods for IT investment evaluation and decision making

Mizera, Jiří January 2009 (has links)
The aim of the final thesis Methods for IT investment evaluation and decision making is to verify relationship between strategy of the company its Enterprise Architecture and IT investments evaluation. To achieve the aim of the thesis is necessary to define the term of Enterprise Architecture and its relationship with IT Project Portfolio Management. The literature retrieval which follows after is focused on calculation of IT investment profitability and return. The calculation is very difficult due to intangible benefits which are one of the common goals of IT investments. The customer satisfaction, improve of the current business process or employees satisfaction are one of the examples of the intangible benefits. Cost/Benefit analysis is one of the methods depicted for calculation of the intangible benefits. Methods for decision support as Analytic Hierarchy Process are highlighted as the significant instrument. The risk analysis and simulation of the risk in IT investments decision making are also mentioned but according to the scope of thesis just very briefly. Major methods are used on the model example of the evaluation and decision making process to demonstrate the whole theoretical part of the thesis. The biggest added value of the final thesis is the deep analysis of the relationship between strategy of the company its Enterprise Architecture and IT investment evaluation. Entire final thesis should be used as the fundament for IT investment evaluation and decision making framework.

Aplikace dashboardů v oblasti podpory řízení IT / Application of dashboards in the area of support of IT management

Sakař, Václav January 2015 (has links)
This diploma thesis is focused on the issue of IT management in the companies, which is described in the MBI (Management of Business Informatics) model, at all levels of IT management in the way how they are defined and used by MBI. The main goal of this diploma thesis is design and create (new/modified) content in the area of IT management in the MBI model for broader usage of this model in the company sphere. The main goal is fulfilled by fulfilling of two sub-goals. Firstly, it is designing and creating new metrics, dimensions and applications or modification (extension) of already existing content in MBI model. Secondly, it is implementation of new or (selected) modified content with Microsoft PowerPivot into the form of interactive applications and then into the dashboards composed from them. The structure of this diploma thesis is adjusted to make those sub-goals achievable. The structure is divided into theoretical and practical section containing together six main parts. Firstly, the two most widely used methodologies of IT management and mainly MBI model are described. Then the definitions of metric (as a main instrument, which is used in IT management) and its attributes are described. Following section contains definition of dashboards and basic description about their designing and creating. In the last part of the theoretical section are described metrics, dimensions, applications and their connections in the MBI model. First part of practical section is about designing and creating of new metrics, dimensions and applications or modifying of already existing content. The last part of this thesis contains implementation of a new or (selected) modified content into applications or dashboards. Main benefit of this diploma thesis is enrichment of existing content in the MBI model in IT management (specifically in the metrics, the dimensions, the applications and the dashboards based on those three things), which improved usability of the MBI in practical usage. Thanks to this extended content, the users or mainly the management employees can react in better way on the potential problems, have better overview about level of quality of the IT resources, can manage the employees in better way and can coordinate quality and quantity of the IT outputs in better way in general.

Attityder till IT i historieundervisningen

Zajdel, Nicklas January 2006 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to show teachers and students attitudes towards using information technology in the studies of history in a specific context and how we can use IT to learn better. The paper will give a better understanding about information technology and learning. A history teacher has been interviewed to give a deeper understanding of the answers given in a connecting broader survey study. The use of IT which increased learning was the possibility to information searches and communication on the internet. The survey shows that students are very positive to using IT in their studies but also that there is a flaw in the criticism of the sources. Another detail that was enlightened by this survey was that the teachers’ knowledge of IT has to be improved.

Bör skolan haka på IT-vågen

Sahrling, Rebecka January 2006 (has links)
Should school hook on the IT-wave?- A study of whether pupils wish an increased application of IT in teaching social studies

The Importance of Healthcare Informatics Competencies (HICs) for Service Innovation in Paramedicine: A Mixed-Methods Investigation / Informatics Competencies for Service Innovation in Paramedicine

Dohan, Michael January 2017 (has links)
Paramedicine in Canada and throughout the developed world is currently undergoing unprecedented transformation to its service delivery model, largely driven by the need to relieve healthcare systems from overcrowding, and ensure its availability for all citizens. These changes are facilitated by the ability of paramedic services to adopt a number of innovative technologies, and their ability to respond by adopting new service delivery models, which may entail the deployment of paramedics in various non-emergency roles or integration with other healthcare services. The purpose of this dissertation is to determine how paramedic services innovate, and how that innovation is influenced by technology in particular. To fulfill this purpose, a two-phase sequential explanatory mixed-methods study is conducted, with a quantitative phase followed by a qualitative phase. In the first phase a multilevel theoretical model consisting of constructs that measure Service Innovation Performance, Dynamic Capabilities, Information Technology (IT) Capabilities and Group-Level Healthcare Informatics Competencies was evaluated with WarpPLS 5.0. A dataset with participation from paramedic leaders of Canadian land-based paramedic services (n=43) and paramedics employed at these services (n=502) was used for this purpose. Findings from this phase indicate that the information technology related knowledge and skills possessed by paramedics have an impact on various organization level dynamic capabilities, as do various IT Capabilities that focus on the relationship between the paramedic service leadership and the IT service provider. In the second phase, a qualitative approach was taken to explore contextual and other factors that facilitate or inhibit the ability of a paramedic service to innovate. Results from this phase suggest that Canadian paramedic services primarily undertake innovative activities with a strong focus on assuring and improving patient care. The use of an electronic patient care record (ePCR) is an important resource, as it enables activities such as the improvement of the clinical skills of paramedics, as well as facilitates the generation of business cases for equipment investment. Further, the informatics competencies of paramedics greatly facilitate the adoption of technology and equipment by individual services, as paramedics with a high amount of these competencies assist other paramedics when adopting technology, communicate innovative ideas within a service, and identify areas in need of change. The results of this dissertation underline the value of technology-related knowledge and skills for paramedics, and the importance of technology in ensuring that paramedic services provide a high and continually improving standard of patient care. / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) / Paramedicine in Canada is currently undergoing unprecedented transformation. These changes are driven by the need to relieve emergency healthcare resources from overcrowding, the increase in number of innovative technologies adopted by paramedic services, deployment of paramedics in various non-emergency roles, and increased integration with other healthcare services. The purpose of this dissertation is to determine how paramedic services innovate, and how innovation is influenced by technology. To this end, a two-phase sequential explanatory mixed-methods study is conducted, producing a few key findings that underline the value of technology in paramedicine. First, paramedics with information technology related skillsets can better identify opportunities for improvement in service delivery, and facilitate the organizational adoption of technology. Second, electronic patient care records are a vital source for a variety of innovative activities in paramedic services, such as organization-wide improvement of clinical skills and identification of areas where patient care can be improved.

From IT solutions to citizen benefits : A case study of IT value in a public sector context.

Eriksmo, Anton, Sundberg, Johan January 2015 (has links)
While the increase of IT solutions within the public sector is well established, the actual value of IT is still a question of debate. This thesis consists of an interpretive case study focused on how IT is perceived to influence public value creation in a local government. The study was conducted in a strategic IT project department at a local government in Sweden. Our findings show that the IT solution is ignored when assessing the created public value. The created values importance is instead based on subjective opinion and the targeted citizen group despite the acknowledgement that IT resources directly used by the citizen created higher public value. In addition the prioritisation of public value was perceived as more difficult than determining the IT value in itself. Our research show the need of understanding how IT values compare to each other in order to use public resources more efficiently.
