Eine der beliebtesten Schmuckformen in der deutschen Buchmalerei sind die Feldinitialen mit „Akanthusrankenausläufern“. Das sind so genannte Initialbuchstaben, die mit floralen Ornamenten, meistens Blattformen oder Ranken, versehen sind. Neben dieser Ausführung winden sich von den Buchstaben oder Initialfeldern Ranken hinweg, welche sich über die Ränder der Seiten oder zwischen den Schriftspalten entlang ziehen. Diese sind dann häufig mit weiteren floralen und vor allem bildlichen Motiven besetzt, wie zum Beispiel mit Blüten, Vögeln oder menschlichen Figuren.

UAV hyperspectral images corrected of illumination differences considering microtopography in correction models /

Orientador: Nilton Nobuhiro Imai / Resumo: O uso do UAV no sensoriamento remoto é uma área crescente de conhecimento e pressionou o desenvolvimento de câmeras multi e hiperespectrais leves, que poderiam ser usadas embarcadas em UAV. Como as informações espectrais dependem das condições de iluminação da cena, as imagens adquiridas por UAV exigem pesquisa para avaliar o processamento de imagens para melhor adaptar os conceitos já estabelecidos às imagens orbitais. Portanto, a correção radiométrica é de fundamental importância para a extração de dados de imagens com alta confiança, uma vez que se sabe que o fator de refletância é uma função da estrutura geométrica, ângulo solar e propriedades ópticas. Nesse sentido, foram desenvolvidas metodologias para corrigir imagens das diferenças de iluminação, utilizando as Funções de Distribuição de Refletância Bidirecional e os Modelos de Correção Topográfica, também conhecidos como correção de iluminação. Este trabalho utiliza a câmera hiperespectral Rikola a bordo de um UAV em latitudes tropicais. Ele avalia como a anisotropia pode influenciar a variabilidade na reflectância dos alvos e como os modelos de correção topográfica podem ser aplicados, usando a micro topografia, para atenuar esses efeitos. Três testes foram realizados para estudar i) as geometrias de visada da câmera hiperespectral Rikola e a disponibilidade de dados fora do Nadir, ii) a variação do fator de anisotropia entre os alvos nas geometrias de visada e iii) modelos de correção de microtopografia para corrigi... (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Use of UAV in remote sensing is a growing area of knowledge and pressed the development of lightweight multi and hyperspectral cameras, which could be used on board of UAV. Since the spectral information depends on the lighting condition of the scene, UAV acquired images demands research to assess image processing to better adapt the concepts already stablished to orbital images. Therefore, the radiometric correction is of main importance for data extraction from imagery with high confidence, once it is known that the reflectance factor is a function of geometric structure, solar angle and optical properties. In this regard, methodologies were developed to correct images from illumination differences, using the Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Functions and the Topographic Correction Models, also known as illumination correction. This Work uses Rikola hyperspectral camera onboard of a UAV in tropical latitudes. It assesses how the anisotropy can influence variability in reflectance of targets, and how topographic correction models can be applied, using micro topography, to attenuate these effects. Global Illumination for Dynamic Voxel Worlds using Surfels and Light Probes

Background. Getting realistic in 3D worlds has been a goal for the game industry since its creation. With the knowledge of how light works; computing a realistic looking image is possible. The problem is that it takes too much computational power for it to be to able render in real-time with an acceptable frame rate. In a paper Jendersie, Kuri and Grosch[8] and in a thesis by Kuri [9] they present a method of calculation light paths ahead-of-time, that will then be used at run-time to get realistic light. The problem with this is that only allows for static world. Objectives and Research questions. The objective of this thesis is to continue the work of the previously mentioned paper to allow the lighting system to be used for a dynamic voxel world. Where it will update the internal data structures when the world changes. Furthermore, this thesis will also answer how this lighting system is adapted for a voxel world, and additionally it will give suggestions of what can be done next. The questions this research will answer are: How can the creation algorithms of a Surfel and Light Cache GI system be optimized so it can be used in real-time while having interactive frame-rates? In what aspects does a voxel world, compared to a vertex world, influence the implementation of this GI system? Methods. The research questions will be answer by implementing the lighting system into a voxel engine and then optimizing it to allow it to be use at run-time with interactable frame-rates. Results. The result gather shows that a speedup of about 2.5 can be achieved by parallelizing the tasks into their own thread, and by allowing the lighting data to be a few frames behind. Conclusions. The experiment was successful and it shows that the lighting system can be optimized so it can be used at run-time. Additionally it explains how a voxel world influences the implementation of this lighting system. There is future work that can be done. For example, making a replication study where the algorithms are implemented into more engines to validate the results, exploring more optimization techniques, etc.

Adaptable classroom lighting for pedagogical activities

Classroom lighting has been installed in the same way since the 1960s, in straight lines offluorescent tubes, even if the teaching values have changed remarkably. There is a need for knowledge exchange that bridges lighting design theory and pedagogy and studies on how the current situation impacts education. Furthermore, there are few studies on new ways of illuminating classrooms. This thesis explores two case studies: one standard classroom built in the 1960s and a classroom redesigned in 2020 with adaptable lighting. The two case studies are used to derive a design concept that can be installed in any standard classroom. Moreover, during the autumn and winter in Sweden, electric light is crucial to support circadian rhythms, and there is a need for adaptability and change throughout the day.

Dynamic Update of Sparse Voxel Octree Based on Morton Code

<p>Real-time global illumination has been a very important topic and is widely used in game industry. Previous offline rendering requires a large amount of time to converge and reduce the noise generated in Monte Carlo method. Thus, it cannot be easily adapted in real-time rendering. Using voxels in the field of global illumination has become a popular approach. While a naïve voxel grid occupies huge memory in video card, a data structure called <i>sparse voxel octree</i> is often implemented in order to reduce memory cost of voxels and achieve efficient ray casting performance in an interactive frame rate. </p> <p>However, rendering of voxels can cause block effects due to the nature of voxel. One solution is to increase the resolution of voxel so that one voxel is smaller than a pixel on screen. But this is usually not feasible because higher resolution results in higher memory consumption. Thus, most of the global illumination methods of SVO (sparse voxel octree) only use it in visibility test and radiance storage, rather than render it directly. Previous research has tried to incorporate SVO in ray tracing, radiosity methods and voxel cone tracing, and all achieved real-time frame rates in complex scenes. However, most of them only focus on static scenes and does not consider dynamic updates of SVO and the influence of it on performance.</p> <p>In this thesis, we will discuss the tradeoff of multiple classic real-time global illumination methods and their implementations using SVO. We will also propose an efficient approach to dynamic update SVO in animated scenes. The deliverables will be implemented in CUDA 11.0 and OpenGL.</p>

Photo-enhanced magnetization in Fe-doped ZnO nanowires

An emerging branch of electronics, the optospintronics, would be highly boosted if the control of magnetic order by light is implemented in magnetic semiconductors’ nanostructures being compatible with the actual technology. Here, we show that the ferromagnetic magnetization of low Fe-doped ZnO nanowires prepared by carbothermal process is enhanced under illumination up to temperatures slightly below room temperature. This enhancement is related to the existence of an oxygen vacancy VO in the neighborhood of an antiferromagnetic superexchange Fe3+-Fe3+ pair. Under illumination, the VO is ionized to to V+O giving an electron to a closeFe3+ ion from the antiferromagnetic pair. This light excited electron transition allows the transition of Fe3+ to Fe2+ forming stable ferromagnetic double exchange pairs, increasing the total magnetization. The results presented here indicate an efficient way to influence the magnetic properties of ZnO based nanostructures by light illumination at high temperatures.

Iconography of the Czech written Utraquist graduals Abstract: My doctoral thesis is devoted to the iconographic problems of painting decorations of a specific type of liturgical manuscripts. The subject of my doctoral thesis are illuminated chant books (graduals) with Czech texts of Gregorian chant, which originated in the 16th century for the needs of utraquist Confraternities of Litterati. The iconography of illuminations is interpreted with regards to their liturgical and codicological context within single part of the gradual. In the text, I especially accentuate the topics and motives from the whole complex of the themes which deserve attention and which newly appear in the structure of painting decorations or it is possible to interpret them in connection with the haecceity of the (utraquist) iconography and confessional identity. Heuristic compilation of illuminated utraquist chant books, which is the part of the structured catalogue, and interpretation of their iconography, represents the first elaboration which is fundamental to successive study dealing with iconography of single subjects, illustrations of particular saints and patron saints of places and specificity of the utraquist and catholic iconography in the epoch before the battle of White Mountain in Bohemia. The presented dissertation thesis called " Německý Brod graduale by Paul Melnik in 1506" is bound to my bachelor thesis, which also dealt with manuscript from the Paul of Melnik's workshop. The introduction of the thesis summarizes the already existing literature on the topic (Chap. 1). Then the following chapters are focused on the illuminator of the studied graduale (Chap. 2.1); they are also engaged in the questionable issues of provenance and dating the graduale, which is allegedly dated in 1506, however, the illumination contained in it rather refers to the graphic analogy (ies) of A. Dürer, which was (were) issued not earlier than in 1511 (Chap. 2.2). The thesis also includes a chapter which is dedicated to the donator of the manuscript (Chap. 3.1). Moreover, there are emphasized problems of literary fraternity and art of Utraquism in Bohemia as well (Chap. 3.3). The chapter 3.2 tries to summarize the works of the illuminator Paul of Melnik, and also to describe his artistic character. The last chapters are devoted to the decoration of the graduale and to possible analogies within the illuminations (Chap. 4).

My intention in creating a website devoted to Frederic's masterpiece is not only to promote awareness of the novel but also to provide high school and undergraduate students, as well as their teachers, with a resource that will situate The Damnation of Theron Ware within an historical as well as a literary and cultural context. Significant events and discoveries in the fields of science, technology, religion, philosophy, art, and literature shaped Frederic's thinking and writing, particularly the events and characters of The Damnation of Theron Ware. An understanding of this milieu is critical to understanding the issues of the richly complicated novel. The Damnation of Theron Ware, or Illumination as it is known in England, is the story of a Methodist minister who loses his faith when he makes the acquaintance of a Catholic priest, a post-Darwinian scientist, a New Woman, and a pragmatic con artist. In the end, critics are in disagreement as to the extent of Theron's damnation or illumination.
