Religion and development in South Africa : an investigation of the relationship between soteriology and capital development in an african initiated church (AIC)

Mafuta, Lubeme 01 1900 (has links)
The upsurge of religious movements and independent churches in the Global South is bringing a new twist to world economic development not anticipated by many theologians and social scientists. With a syncretic soteriology geared toward the liberation of the whole person, religious movements and independent churches of the south are preaching to their adherents, mostly the poor and the marginalized, a message of faith in an omnipotent and compassionate God who is concerned for their weal and woes and who offers them an assured and holistic salvation. By placing their faith in God, the poor and marginalized people are discovering their true selves and are saved/liberated. This assured salvation (certitudo salutis), which is a total liberation of the physical and spiritual world, becomes, in turn, the motivational energy for capital development. The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) soteriological predicament stands at this juncture. Through processes of syncretization and purification, ZCC has managed to deconstruct the European/North American and African Traditional Religions soteriologies to construct a pure soteriology that is relevant to the socio context of its adherents. ZCC deconstructs these soteriologies by broadening, for example, the classic Christian soteriogical theory of Christus Victor in her notion of sin, death and the devil and the African traditional soteriological notion of uBuntu and spirit-power. The purity, or holistic salvation, generated out of these processes serves as grounds for identity and economic empowerment of its adherents. With a holistic salvation that centers on healing, personal integrity and spiritual power, ZCC members have been able to achieve considerable success in the labour market by becoming an army of potential employees. They have also distinguished themselves in their work ethic, where they are seen as hardworking, disciplined, obedient and sober. Empowering its adherents economically through a religious soteriology, the ZCC has become an example of a trend that is shaping the Global South and is reviving the interest of social scientists and theologians to further investigate the impact of religious and theological formulations on the economic conduct of individuals. / Theology / D. Os Ticuna e a igreja indígena em Filadélfia, Amazonas

Lima, Widney Pereira de January 2013 (has links)
This work is a study of the indigenous church located in the community Ticuna Philadelphia, city of Benjamin Constant, Amazonas. The prospect of creating a church goes through a whole discussion that has been done for over ten years around the reflection of what was and what is the process of evangelization proposed by both the Catholic Church and the Protestant churches, as well as the processes messianic that are part of the group's history Ticuna. Ticuna are rethinking evangelism Ticuna. The research tries to build an analysis of discourses around, especially the indigenous church leaders said, by accompanying ethnographic, where some people were heard and observations were made before the research proposition. It appears that within the current configuration in which the church is entered, the religious aspect is not the only one to feature as the core of the proposal becoming evident that it tends to be an important element of identity marking, political, economic and social, making is an essential source of contact with the outside society but mainly with their own demands is to build, along with CONPLEI (National Council of indigenous Evangelical Pastors and Leaders), "genuinely indigenous churches."

Amkira Tsabo : um estudo sobre a missão educacional metodista junto ao povo kanamari no contexto do estado democrático de direito brasileiro / Amkira Tsabo : a study of the educational Methodist mission with the kanamari people in the context of the Brazilian legal democratic state

Ana Claudia Figueroa 15 August 2008 (has links)
This dissertation studies the educational actions of the Methodist indigenous mission with the Kanamari people. The Kanamari's relationship characteristics are evaluated, taking into consideration the current state of affairs in which public policies regarding indigenous education, motivated by the characteristics of the democratic rule of law established in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Brazil promulgated in 1988, are being implemented. This analysis is done through the Methodist Church's indigenous missionary educational practice with the Kanamari tribe. The study is divided into five chapters and organized into two movements. It is done through narrative historiography. In the first movement, comprised of chapters one to three, the introductory elements for understanding the development of the research are presented. These chapters represent elements of existence of the research subjects, of the elements that establish a relationship among themselves from the perspective of indigenous education as public policy. The second movement is made up of the fourth and fifth chapters, which are more analytical of the themes which cross the historicities of the historic subjects that interact in the context of the constitution of the Brazilian democratic rule of law. These chapters represent the most analytical and conclusive part of the research, pointing out transverse elements that aide in the expliciting of conditions of approximation, distancing, partnership and criticism present in the experiences dealt with.
