Samlingen som verktyg : Personal Information Management och konstnärers personliga samlingar / The Collection as Tool : Personal Information Management and Artists’ Personal Collections

Eriksen, Jon January 2012 (has links)
The study set out to find how artists organize and use their personal collections from a Personal Information Management (PIM) perspective, and how that use affects their practice and their art production. A secondary object of the study was to articulate the ways that personal collections are utilized as tools by creative users. The empirical data consisted of five qualitative, semi-structured interviews with Swedish and Norwegian sound artists. The constant comparative method was used for analysis, and Activity Theory was used as a theore- tical framework for the study. The study concluded that artists’ personal collections, while diverse in content and structure, serve the same functions as tools in creative processes, and that attention to the uses of personal collections highlight needs that could be better met by integrated PIM-functionality. The study also concluded that artists constitute an underutilized resource for future PIM-research and that artists’ personal collection use provides insight into creative use of collections, and highlights potential direc- tions for future development of PIM tools. This paper is a two years master’s thesis in Library and Information Science.

Ett förlorat kulturarv? : Digitala personarkiv – problem, lösningar och framtid / A Lost Cultural Heritage? : Digital Personal Archives – Problems, Solutions and Future

Jansson, Ina-Maria January 2012 (has links)
This thesis has focused on digital born personal archives; how they are different from analog paper archives and possible ways to overbridge these differences. It is also studied how archivists and librarians are dealing with digital archives, what they think about new proactive solutions when collecting private papers and collections and positive and negative effects with this way to work. The thesis is delimitated to only private collections and digital created material. It do not concern digitized material or electronic documents in government or business organizations. The challenges in digital curation and administration are discussed in aspect of the Records Continuum Model. The empirical material is also put in relation to research in Personal Information Management and identity theory. Two qualitative methods have been used, a case study of an authors personal electronic archive and five deep-going interviews with archivists and librarians working with personal collections in university libraries. This study shows that many difficulties and problems displayed in the electronic archive could be solved in the future with a more proactive approach and early cooperation with the collector. By educating and informing creators of personal records about file formats, archival structure and the need of them to engage in their own collection, more personal digital records could be preserved. Librarians and archivists are imagining more proactive work in the future but are also asking for other solutions. A lot of the challenges united with electronic personal archives are associated with lacking continuity which is a reason to use the Records Continuum Model to explain and work with personal digital collections. This is a two year master’s thesis in archival science.

Chou, Yu-Pang 20 August 2010 (has links)
This research, by the case study, is to discuss how one finance securities enterprise, under such drastically worldwide changes, inducts the management strategies and the information management system to those in newly-emerging nations ¡V taking Securities Company C in Taiwan and its Vietnam branch as the example - and seeks possible solutions. The study aims not only to help Vietnam branch face the challenges, which possibly appear, but to find the importance of the information system and the core value to Vietnam branch. With such successful experience of transferring the information system, whenever investing on oversea finances securities, one can enhance efficiency of overseas management and competence, creating a win-win situation. In view of commercial tragedies, major Taiwanese securities, with globalization, hope to expand business. They optimistically set out the global layout. Securities Company C just has the opportunity to enter one Vietnam securities enterprise, now a branch of Securities Company C, which may be an important multinational business case study for the Taiwan securities industry in the securities market. From the management level, Vietnam Branch belonging to Securities Company C may face challenges, such as cultural differences, different value cognition, language and communication disorders, which are severe tests. In the scale, scope, and visibility, domestic securities enterprises can not be compared with those of developed countries in Vietnam. Therefore this study explores the possibility of transferring Taiwan information management system abroad and eventually helps Securities Company C¡¦s overseas branch to enhance competence. Securities Company C in Taiwan is famous as an electronic securities corporation, and well-known for the information management system. Now in Vietnam, as we know, larger securities enterprises are either state-owned or professionally foreign capital-managed; the smaller ones are owned by local powerful celebrities with abundant financial resource. Therefore it is not easy for Securities Company C¡¦s Vietnam Branch to compete. This study is to find the possible solution by analyzing all the aspects of this Vietnamese enterprise and transferring Taiwan information management system. It is believed that in near future the Vietnam Branch of Securities Company C can take more advantage in Vietnamese stock market for development and core competitiveness. Therefore, in this study, specific property information applications of securities industry are trying to be transferred to Vietnam Branch. Moreover by SWOT and Five Forces analysis viewed as the successful factors of Vietnam securities, Taiwan securities industry becomes more competitive in Vietnam, not to mention the fact that Taiwan is Vietnam's largest foreign investment country. It is hopefully believed that this study will help improve the identity and visibility of Taiwan Securities corporations in Vietnam, and successfully enter Vietnam securities market.

Merge in Transit, a distribution method in the industrial environment

Gattolin, Elena January 2008 (has links)

In a fast moving environment and in a globalized market, companies are searching efficient distribution methods that enable broad product assortment, lower level of inventories, shorter customer order fulfilment, lower transportation costs in order to achieve a more efficient procurement process and a improved customer service. This paper will focus on a new solution in supply chain design to solve these trade-offs between management cost cutting and higher customer level within markets characterized by an increasing globalisation. Merge in transit (MIT) distribution method allows companies to reduce inventory and transportation costs while guaranteeing a high customer perceived service level. It is a new technique in which goods shipped from several supply locations are consolidated into one final customer delivery. The company needs to coordinate shipments so that they arrive simultaneously and goods can be bundled and shipped immediately to the final customer for arrival on due date. Economical benefits and drawbacks will be investigated from a supply chain prospective.

Process oriented information management in construction

Lindfors, Christian January 2003 (has links)

The construction industry is often accused of beingfragmented and inefficient in nature due to the lack ofcontinuity and repetitive behaviour in projects. For many yearsinformation technology has been put forward as a solution. But,despite the potentials, little gains have been harvested by thedevelopment of computerised information systems (IS). Theoverall aim of this research is to determine if a moreaccessible and clearly described housing development processcould be enabled by an information system, which in itself, could improve both individual and project (group) performance. Two research questions are being put forward; first, will aprocess-oriented IS positively impact on the performance ofproject managers and in particular on the performance ofproject groups? Second, how important is a process-orientedinformation management process for the success of the IS? Toanswer these questions an action research approach with largeinfluences of survey research has been adopted. The researchconsists of two phases; a process orientation within a largeSwedish housing development company and a survey of projectmanagers¡¦ attitudes towards a new process-orientedIS also including a study of dependencies found among variablesof information system success (ISS). To enable a verificationof the success of the IS an assessment instrument - hypothesismodel - for evaluating ISS was developed. The assessmentinstrument was built on DeLone and McLean's (1992) ISS modeland extended to include measures of information managementprocess quality (process quality). The hypothesis model wasthen tested empirically with a questionnaire survey. Astatistical test was also performed to test the hypothesisedrelationships of the augmented ISS model. In summarising thefindings of the data analysis, it is evident that the new ISreceived unexpected support from the respondents. The findingsalso indicate that the collected and analysed data show supportfor numerous of the hypothesised relationships of ISS.Conclusions are drawn that confirm the presence of a processquality measure for assessing ISS. From a practitioner'sperspective, this research suggests a course of action forprocess oriented organisational development. It also indicatesbeneficiary useof a process focus in IS development.

KEYWORDS:Process orientation, information system, information system success, information management, projectmanagement
