Mot en beskrivning av miljömedvetna konsumenters informationsbehov

Norblad, Lars January 2009 (has links)
Abstract The aim of this Master thesis is to explore why some Swedes want to consume”eco-friendly” and whether this fact gives rise to articulated information needs. Two possible explanations for this ”eco conscious” consumption are being tested, either if it is based on a normative belief that it is the right thing to do if you, as a consumer, want to do something about the environmental degradation, or that it is a reaction to a perceived risk, due to the environmental degradation. The method chosen by the author in this thesis is a qualitative text analysis of five Swedish journals. The author also tries to find articulated expressions for information needs based on the will to consume ”eco friendly” that could either be a result of a perceived risk or a feeling of normative rightness. The findings of this thesis are the following: the opinion among Swedish consumers that it is normatively right to select products perceived to be good for the environment, is the most commonly expressed in the material examined followed by the view that they (the consumers) need more information as to what products to chose if the they are to satisfy their “environmental ambitions”.

EU-information : Studenters behov och sökning, EU:s informationsresurser / EU-information : students information needs and search, EU's information resources

Forsberg, Anna January 2009 (has links)
The aim of this master thesis was to examine the European Commission's information resources from a user perspective in order to clarify the needs and circumstances of the search of EU-information among students at Örebro University. 41 students participated in a survey, and four of them was interviewed. On the basis of Pendelton- and Chatmans theories of information behaviour in small worlds, it were assumed that the students' education and citizenship in the European Union affected their needs and the search of EU information. The study showed that the students needs for EU-related information has increased, with the current education, but also been linked to earlier educations. The students Citizens need were mainly associated with elections such as the EMU-election, but also in some cases to a need of the general knowledge. A review of the European Commission's information resources were made with an emphasis on European Documentation Centre, EDC. The survey showed that most students used the EDC and the EU-databases that was made available by the European Commission through the EDC and the university library but were not aware that they used EDC. The survey also showed that students made use of familiar sources and resources when they searched the EU-information, such as the library's regular database list, the library catalogue and search engine on the internet are not requested of other resources. In line with Pendelton and Chatmans's theory the students did not seek information if it was not consider necessary.

Information Use with Paper and Electronic Nursing Documentation by Nurses Caring for Pediatric Patients

Kelley, Tiffany Frances January 2012 (has links)

This dissertation aimed to investigate the use of electronic nursing documentation as a strategy to improve the quality of care provided to hospitalized patients. The literature to support the use of electronic nursing documentation on the quality of care delivered to patients is limited to date. Additionally, the literature describing the use of information for the delivery of care on paper-based nursing documentation is limited. This dissertation reviews the current literature, investigated the knowledge needed for nurses to know their patients and established categories of nurses' information needs as preliminary work to be able to descriptively compare the use of paper with electronic nursing documentation on inpatient care units within a hospital setting. The main study conducted for this investigation used a mixed-methods multiple case study design, to describe the processes of information use on two inpatient care units, while first using paper and subsequently electronic nursing documentation. Findings revealed the importance of the categories of nurses' information needs for both cases in addition to the use of verbal, paper-based and electronic information sources for the collection, communication and temporary storage of information needs. Additionally, the conversion to electronic nursing documentation introduced new challenges related to three quality metrics: efficiency, timeliness and safety. Recommendations are provided for further evaluation of electronic health records with additional consideration for appropriate hardware devices in the context of the care environment.
/ Dissertation

Formulating Complex Queries Using Templates

Zhang, Hao 21 January 2009 (has links)
While many users have relatively general information needs, users who are familiar with a certain topic may have more specific or complex information needs. Such users already have some knowledge of a subject and its concepts, and they need to find information on a specific aspect of a certain entity, such as its cause, effect, and relationships between entities. To successfully resolve this kind of complex information needs, in our study, we investigated the effectiveness of topic-independent query templates as a tool for assisting users in articulating their information needs. A set of query templates, which were written in the form of fill-in-the-blanks was designed to represent general semantic relationships between concepts, such as cause-effect and problem-solution. To conduct the research, we designed a control interface with a single query textbox and an experimental interface with the query templates. A user study was performed with 30 users. Okapi information retrieval system was used to retrieve documents in response to the users’ queries. The analysis in this paper indicates that while users found the template-based query formulation less easy to use, the queries written using templates performed better than the queries written using the control interface with one query textbox. Our analysis of a group of users and some specific topics demonstrates that the experimental interface tended to help users create more detailed search queries and the users were able to think about different aspects of their complex information needs and fill in many templates. In the future, an interesting research direction would be to tune the templates, adapting them to users’ specific query requests and avoiding showing non-relevant templates to users by automatically selecting related templates from a larger set of templates.

Lär mig det jag vill, på mitt sätt : Patientundervisning utifrån informationsbehovet hos patienter med cancer / Teach me what I want, and do it my way : Patient education based on the information needs of patients with cancer

Aspeflo, Karina, Vendelstrand, Hanna January 2010 (has links)
Patients often experience that the information they are given is wrong. Wrong in the consideration of too little, to much, none at all, given at the wrong time, too complicated or in a difficult technical language that they do not understand. The purpose of this study was to illuminate what information needs patients with cancer may have. The study was based on 20 scientific articles and shows that most patients with cancer want to have all available information regarding both diagnosis and treatment including the available choices. However, there are some who only want limited information; therefore it is important to evaluate each patient's information needs. Well-informed patients experience less anxiety and distress and get a sense of control over their complex situation. It is therefore important for the nurse to have knowledge of the need for information and the important factors that can alter and satisfy the needs of patients. By providing patient education more space in the education of nurses, and make nurses more aware of new research, the patients' situation can in the future be further improved.

Någon kunde ha förberett mig för detta : En litteraturstudie om sexuell hälsa och gynekologisk cancer / Someone could have prepared me for this : A literature study about sexual health and gynecological cancer

Forsman, Ida, Hedman, Linnea January 2015 (has links)
Background: Gynecological cancer is an expanded spectrum of cancer diseases among women and the treatments have importance for the experience of sexual health. Sexual health is important for the total experience of health. If the sexual health is perceived unsatisfactory, a suffering can arise. Aim: The aim is to describe women’s experience of sexual health within gynecological cancer. Method: A literature review of twelve qualitative articles was performed. Results: The analysis resulted in experienced barriers for sexual health within gynecological cancer. The barriers are presented in three main categories: The sexual body, Sexual obstacles and Sexual relations. Conclusion: Women with gynecological cancer mainly experience several barriers for sexual health. The barriers can lead to an unsatisfied sexual health which can cause a suffering. By knowledge about the experience of sexual health within gynecological cancer, the health care can provide care including several aspects of the disease and thereby decrease the risk for suffering. Clinical significance: This study can contribute knowledge about women’s perceived sexual health within gynecological cancer. Health care providers have an important role to fulfill regarding women’s experience of lack of information. Education and discussion about sexual health in the nursing education creates conditions for conversations about sexual health to become an obvious part of the health care. /
Röda Korsets sjuksköterskeförening stipendium juni 2015
