No. of bitstreams: 1 Wevertton Marllon Anselmo.pdf: 2083454 bytes, checksum: 55af889b8cc4630b6dfacc2da84c662b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-02-26 / The tomato (Lycopersicon esculent) is a vegetable subject to the occurrence of many disease problems. The need to develop less toxic insecticides has been placed as an alternative found in insecticide plants. Alternative methods of control, such as the use of plant extracts with insecticidal activity have shown promising results. Among the spontaneous species of the caatinga biome silk flower (Calatropis procera) and endemic species of the caatinga biome such as juazeiro (Ziziphus joazeiro) have been studied through their extracts as insecticides. Thi way, the objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of plant extracts of the spontaneous species and endemic of the Caatinga biome in the management of pests and diseases in tomato. The experiment was conducted in the experimental area of UAST in two stages, the first being in greenhouse and second in field. In the first stage trays in greenhouse were used and it was verified the action of aqueous extracts of plant on the primary pests which are the transmitters of viruses in tomato Caline Ipa 7. In the second stage, in field it was verified the effect of the use of these aqueous extracts of plants on the main pests and virus using tomato seedlings from the first step. The extracts were produced by grinding leaves of silk flower (C. Procera) and juazeiro (Z. Joazeiro) in a proportion of 10% strained and then filtered through cheesecloth fabric plus 1% detergent. Sprays were made every two days and assessments made every seven days. The design in the first step was completely randomized with three treatments and two replications; in the second, the design was randomized in block with three treatments and six replications. Among the major pests associated with the cultivation of tomato in this study occurred more frequently in the White Fly Bemisia tabaci (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae); Minadora to fly Liriomyza sp. (Diptera: Agromyzidae) and Thrips Frankliniella schultzei (Thysanoptera: Thripidae). Extracts of Silk Flower and Juazeiro reduced the infestation of fly B. White Thrips tabaci and F. schultzei compared to the control and the infestation of leaf miner Liriomyza sp. was lower in plants treated with silk flower extract against those not treated with plant extracts. The populational fluctuation of the Fly B. White Thrips tabaci and F. schultzei showed that these pests are present throughout the crop cycle, already Minadora fly Liriomyza sp. only appeared in the first two weeks. There was no difference between treatments in the proportion of plants with virus and production. The percentage of plants with virus symptoms was 49.8% in control and 35.36% and 47.38% for plants treated with extracts of Silk Flower and Juazeiro respectively. Tomato production was 61.03 kg in the control and 65.3 and 74.14 kg in plants treated with extracts of Silk Flower and Juazeiro, respectively, there was no difference in tomato production between treatments. So, Silk Flower and Juazeiro extracts reduced the infestation of fly B. White tabaci, Mosca Minadora Liriomyza sp. Thrips and F. schultzei compared to the control during the production of seedlings, Fly Minadora Liriomyza sp. is considered a pest and requires initial monitoring at the beginning of cultivation. Despite the decrease extracts and Silk Flower Juazeiro had not an effective control against the population of Thrips F. schultzei field.

Following this trend, the sector has been expanding in Brazil too. The major tropical plants cultivate in Pernambuco are Heliconia species. Some Heliconia species accumulate exudates, water and floral parts in bracts that form a micro habitat called phytotelmata which favors the occurrence of insects. Immersion in insecticides conventional solutions, together with physical cleaning is currently the main way to control these insects in tropical flowers postharvest. The use of natural products derived from plants is an alternative to this method in recent years. The objective this study was to identify the insect families associated to Heliconia bihai (L.) L. and evaluate the insecticidal potential of Piper marginatum Jacq., Piper aduncum L. and Eucalyptus citriodora Hook essential oils in insects that occur after the post-harvest, and the effect of these oils in inflorescences durability. The order Diptera showed the greatest values for infestation, frequency, abundance and constancy indexes. Was observed that 51.1% of the insects were dipterous the family Psycodidae (two morphospecies) and 19.5% of the family Tipulidae (one morphospecies). In the insect control evaluation, Natuneem promoted, respectively, 66.6% and 41.6% Coleoptera insects removal. There was no significative difference in Diptera larvae percentage removed in treatments and controls as the mortality larvae. This does not rule out the insecticidal activity of these oils. Isnecessary to develop new experiments using different concentrations of these oils to establish what the most suitable to insects control in H. bihai postharvest.

This study aimed to evaluate the lethal and sublethal effects of botanical insecticides on the biology and behavior of this pest. Experiments were performed in the laboratory using leaf discs of cotton CNPA 8H cultivar, immersed in the concentrations of formulated botanical insecticides (emulsifiable oils and extract) and essential oils as food substrate. Formulations based on neem and Bioalho® caused significant reductions in reproductive rates obtained by the life table of fertility. On the other hand, essential oils did not alter significantly these parameters except the oil of Chenopodium ambrosioides L. (Chenopodiaceae), which increased reproductive rates due to the likely hormoligosis effect. For products tested by the instantaneous rate of population growth, Compostonat®, Rotenat® and Neempro caused aphid population decline, while Natuneem promoted positive rates, indicating that the population continued to increase. Concerning the aphid behavior, repellency-choice experiments were performed. The oils of Piperaduncum L. (Piperaceae), Azadirachta indica A. Juss. (Meliaceae) and Cymbopogom winterianus (L.) (Poaceae) had the highest repellency percentage (66.67, 60.87 and 84%) for adult females. The latter two oils also reduced nymphs production (80.65 and 92%). The opposite occurred with F. vulgare, which attracted significantly aphid females to the treated disks and stimulated nymphs production.

Schinus terebinthifolius, popularly known as pepper tree is a kind of abundance in Pernambuco and due to their biological properties is widely used in folk medicine. This study aimed to determine the chemical constituents of essential oils of ripe fruits (OORF) and unripe (OOUF) mastic and evaluate the potential acaricide and insecticide through lethal and sublethal effects on Tetranychus urticae and Rhyzopherta dominica . Analyzed by GC / MS revealed the limonene as the main constituent in both oils (OOUF = 44,1 ± 1,3%; OORF = 31,8 ± 1,2%). The residual contact and fumigant action of these oils on T. uticae revealed OOUF the most active in fumigation (LC50 = 1,46 μL / L of air), while OEFM was more active in the tests of the contact petri dishes closed and opened petri dishes (LC50 μL/L/cm² = 3,04) and did not differ statiscally from eugenol. These oils exhibited significant repellent activity against T. urticae compared with eugenol. For R. dominica fumigation test showed no statistical difference between the two oils, but both were more effective in the exposure period of 72h. Limonene the main constituent of OOUF and OORF, showed the same level of toxicity compared to the essential oils. Tests with blends prepared with the major and minor constituents of these oils indicated that limonene is the major contributor to toxicity obtained for OOUF and OORF. The OOUF was repellent to 25, 35 and 45 μL/2g) and the oil of OORF proved attractive in the lower concentration tested (15 μL/2g) and repellent at the highest (30 and 50 μL/2g).

In alternative production systems, the control of this pest is carried out by natural biological control and by application of botanical insecticides. However, the performance of A. gossypii, its natural enemies and insecticides may be affected by different features of cotton cultivars, as the tricomas density. The objectives of this study were examine the interactions between white (BRS 8H and BRS 201) and colored fiber cotton cultivars (BRS Verde, BRS Safira and BRS Rubi), botanical insecticide (Azamax®, castor bean oil emulsion, aqueous extract of neem seeds, Eucalyptus citrioda Hook and E. staigeriana essential oils), A. gossypii and its natural enemy Cycloneda sanguinea (L.).Tested cultivars did not influence the development and feeding preference of A. gossypii, the locomotion and search ability of C. sanguinea and the effectiveness of tested botanical insecticides. The essential oils of E. staigeriana e E. citriodora showed no decrease in pest population and caused severe phytotoxicity in all cotton cultivars. Azamax® showed A. gossypii mortality ranging between 64 and 100%, and negative instantaneous growth rate (ri), from the concentration of 1.25%. For aqueous extract of neem seeds aphid mortality ranged between 12 and 92% and the ri was negative from concentration above 2.5%. Castor bean oil emulsion had low toxicity, with mortality rates ranging between 8 and 68% and negative ri, from concentration of 3.0%. Azamax® 0.25 and 1.25%, aqueous extract of neem seeds 2.25% and castor bean oil emulsion 3.0% showed high mortality to larvae of the 1st and 4th instars of C. sanguinea preventing the emergence of adults.

The use of synthetic fumigants and protectors are widely used on its control, however alternative products such as powders and essential oils of plant origin, have been extensively investigated in recent years, with promising results. Thus, this study aimed to: (a) perform the chromatographic analysis and mass spectrometry in Eucalyptus. citriodora Hook., Eucalyptus. staigeriana F., essential oils; (b) evaluate the toxicity by contact and fumigation; (c) test the repellent effect. The major component of E. staigeriana essential oil was limonene (28.73%) and geranial (15.20%), and for E. citriodora essential oil was Citronelal (89.59%) and Citronelil acetate (3.34). The LC50s of F. vulgare, E. citriodora, E. staigeriana and C. winterianus oils in contact tests were estimated in 4.19, 7.09, 7.44, 7.93μL/20g of bean, respectively. According to regression analysis, the higher the mortality rate, lower was the number of eggs laid and emerged insects. In fumigation tests for adults, the LC50s ranged from 2.58 to 7.85 μL/L of air and the toxicity reasons from 1.25 to 3.04. In all concentrations tested, E. citriodora and C. winterianus oils were repellent to C. maculatus adults. F. vulgare was classified as neutral, while E. staigeriana was neutral at low concentrations and repellent only at the highest concentration 12μL/20g of cowpea. The percentages of reduction of posture caused by the oils esssenciais ranged from 3.26 to 100% and adult emergence from 0.46 to 100%, especially C. winterianus that the highest concentration (15μl/20g), reduced by 100% these parameter.

Smith). However, the inadequate application of the insecticide has contributed to increase costs, reduction of the natural enemies, and selection of resistant populations, among other problems. Attempting to obtain alternative control of S. frugiperda more ecologically acceptable, the present work investigated the effects of neem (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) and Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. aizawai (Bta) on S. frugiperda under laboratory, greenhouse and field conditions. In the field, the commercial formulations of Natuneem® (10 mL/L in 2005 and 15 mL/L in 2006) and Neemseto® (5 and 10 mL/L in 2005, and 10 and 15 mL/L in 2006) and the biological insecticide Xentari® (10 g/L in 2005 and 2006) were applied at 15, 30 and 45 and at 15, 25 e 35 days after plant emergency in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Thee evaluations consisted of using a scale of foliar injury from 0 to 5 prior each spray. In 2005, only Neemseto® 10 mL/L was efficient at 30 days. In 2006, Neemseto® 15 mL/L and Xentari® with average score of 0.93 and 0.98, respectively, were different from the control, which produced a score of 2.38 at 35 days after plant emergency. The greenhouse assay consisted of treatment of plants 40-days old with the insecticides Natuneem®, Neemseto® and Xentari® followed by artificial infestation with newly-hatched larvae of S. frugiperda. After 10 days, it was verified that the treatment were equally efficient, differing from the control, regarding to the injury score, as well as, the number of surviving larvae. In the last bioassays, in the laboratory, 10-days old S. frugiperda larvae were fed with corn leaves treated with the insecticides Natuneem®, Neemseto® and Xentari® at 2.5; 5.0; 7.5; 10 mL or g/mL and control (water). The effect of the insecticides increased as function of increasing concentration, causing higher larval mortality, longer period and lower larval weight. In some cases, reduction of pupa weight and viability and longevity of adults were also verified. Larvae 0-24 h old were more susceptible to the insecticides, as compared with 10-days old larvae.

In the fumigation for larvae with 7 to 14 days of age, only eugenol did not differ from control concerning number of adults emerged. In larvae with 7 to 21 days, the oils of green fruits from S. terebinthifolius and P. hispidinervum showed the best performance in relation to the control. Percentages of repellency varied between 97.4 (P. marginatum and C. zeylanicum) to 81% (P. hispidinervum). In the initial storage period (after impregnation), mortality of S. zeamais ranged between 93.8 (P. hispidinervum, Melaleucaleucadendron and eugenol) to 100% (E. uniflora, green fruits of S. terebinthifolius and P. marginatum). From 30 days, mortality generally decreased, except for P. marginatum (92.2%). According to the regression equations adjusted for the number of S. zeamais emerged throughoutthe storage period, there was no statistical significance for the oils of S. terebinthifolius and P. marginatum and control. For the average, the oil from P. marginatum was the most persistent, providing emergency of only 0.30 insects differing from the other oils and the control. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Eplingiella fruticosa Salzm. ex Benth., ex Hyptis fruticosa is a shrubby plant of the family Lamiaceae, found mainly on the coast of northeastern Brazil. This study aimed to characterize the chemical and genetic properties of the essential oil of E. fruticosa native to the state of Sergipe. Native populations were collected in 11 municipalities in the state of Sergipe. The essential oils from dry leaves were collected by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC/MSFID. The mean essential oil content ranged between 0.75 and 1.28%. The chemical and clustering analysis of the essential oils revealed two clusters, based on the higher contents of constituents. The first cluster consisted of 15 plants and had bicyclogermacrene (6.29- 16.24%), spathulenol (7.59-15.23%), β-caryophyllene (5.77-12.97 %), and caryophyllene oxide (5.00-11.90%) as major constituents. The second cluster consisted of seven plants and had 1,8-cineol (8.96-15.51%), α-pinene (5.46-13.77%), and camphor (4,08-11.40%) as major constituents. The analysis of genetic diversity by ISSR comprised samples of 100 plants and used eight primers. Results of the clustering analysis by the Neighbor-Joining method formed three clusters: Cluster I, consisting of 50 plants, mainly from the municipalities of Areia Branca, Estância, Japaratuba, Moita Bonita, Pirambu, and Salgado; Cluster II, formed by 21 plants, nine representatives of the municipality of Itaporanga D'Ajuda and 13 representatives of other municipalities; Group III, made up of 29 plants, mainly from the municipalities of Malhada dos Bois and São Cristóvão. The lowest genetic distance was observed between plants EPF94 and EPF96 (0.250), and the highest genetic distance was observed between plants EPF50 and EPF96 (0.9778). The Shannon index presented a mean value of 0.42, and diversity was considered as moderate. Heterozygosity reached a mean value of 0.267 and was considered as low. The polymorphic information content (PIC = 0.253) was considered as moderately informative. The essential oils of four E. fruticosa genotypes were toxic to workers of Acromyrmex balzani, requiring 4.54-6.78 μL.L-1 of oil to cause 50% mortality of the ants. When applied alone, camphor and 1,8-cineol were more effective than the essential oil; conversely, β-caryophyllene and caryophyllene oxide were less toxic. Treatments reduced the survival rate of A. balzani throughout the exposure time, especially the essential oils of the genotypes EPF303 and EPF1103 and their respective constituents isolated, which presented the shortest lethal times. The treatments affected the ants' behavior, confirming the repellency of the essential oils tested in this study. Results revealed the existence of chemical variability among E. fruticosa plants of the state of Sergipe and intermediate genetic diversity among plants. The essential oils and the constituents isolated have the potential for the development of effective products to control leaf-cutting ants.
