The effects of work experiences and institutional support on job satisfaction among NCAA coachesKim, Jong-Chae 29 August 2005 (has links)
The primary purposes of this study were to explore the relationships among four work experiences (i.e., job variety, job autonomy, job stress, and job feedback) and coaches?? job satisfaction to examine the influence of institutional support (i.e., affective institutional support and financial institutional support) on job satisfaction, and to investigate if the relationship between the type of institutional support and job satisfaction differs (does not differ) between revenue generating sport coaches and non-revenue-generating sport coaches. To achieve these purposes this study examined the relationships among four work experiences and institutional support variables on job satisfaction. This study also examined differences between revenue-generating sport and non-revenue-generating sport coaches. Coaches (N = 599) in 7 sports (i.e., football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, and tennis) from NCAA Division I schools were asked to participate in this study. The response rate was a 34.7 % (208 / 599). Participants included 145 males and 63 females. Of the 208 completed and returned questionnaires, 100 (48.1%) were from revenue sport coaches (i.e., football and basketball). Meanwhile, 108 (51.9 %) were from non-revenue sport coaches. The results indicated that job variety, job stress, job feedback, affective institutional support, and financial institutional support were significantly related to job satisfaction. Namely, these three job experiences and two types of institutional support in the organizational environment impacted coaches?? attitudes, or job satisfaction. Further, for revenue generating sport coaches, financial institutional support was a significant indicator of job satisfaction; however, for non-revenue-generating sport coaches, affective institutional support held a stronger relationship to job satisfaction than did financial institutional support. Additionally, one of the job experience variables, job feedback, played a meaningful role to both coaches of revenue sports and coaches of nonrevenue sports in shaping job satisfaction.

Determining institutional support needed for embedding service-learning in nursing at a Higher Education Institution in the Western CapeHendricks, Sergio Lester January 2018 (has links)
Magister Curationis - MCur / Service-learning (SL) is regarded as a teaching and learning method combining community
participation with content-based class discussion and reflection. It involves a teaching and
learning assessment process with community members. It therefore combines theory-based
knowledge learnt at a Higher Education Institution (HEI) and the learning experiences
produced through community engagement. National guidelines developed by the Higher
Education Quality Committee (HEQC) are available for higher education to institutionalise
service-learning (SL) in South African HEIs, but widespread inconsistencies with the
implementation of these guidelines have been reported. This thesis is informed by a previous
study conducted at an HEI in Western Cape that identified constraining factors required to
institutionalisation SL within an academic programme.
The aim of this study was to determine the institutional support needed for embedding
service-learning in nursing at a Higher Education Institution in the Western Cape.
A quantitative, descriptive, cross sectional survey design was used. The study population
consisted of 60 nurse educators (lecturers and clinical supervisors). All-inclusive sampling
was used because of the small number in the population. All questions were statistically
analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS 24) to provide descriptive
statistics. The data was summarized, and the descriptive statistics were presented as
frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviation.

Organizational Structure and Institutional Support for USDA Forest Service PartnershipsBarrow, Lori Ann 01 December 2012 (has links)
AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF LORI A. BARROW, for the Master of Science degree in FORESTRY, presented on October 18, 2012 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale TITLE: ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT FOR USDA FOREST SERVICE PARTNERSHIPS MAJOR PROFESSOR: Dr. Erin Seekamp and Dr. Andrew Carver In an era of constrained appropriations and increasingly complex social and environmental challenges, partnerships have become an essential tool for public land management agencies, such as the USDA Forest Service (USFS), to accomplish critical tasks, meet management goals, and enhance service delivery. Despite the growing practice and reliance on partnerships as an alternative management strategy, few empirical assessments of this management approach have been conducted, and knowledge is limited regarding the structure and function of these relationships. Therefore, the goals of this study were to expand the established partnership knowledge base by systematically examining the institutional characteristics necessary to foster a vibrant partnership culture, uncovering and documenting the various partnership structural types being utilized, and determining whether or not institutional characteristics or external environment characteristics are related to the partnership approach utilized by USFS personnel. To explore these partnership characteristics, and assess whether differences existed between administrative levels and between national forest, an online questionnaire was administered to agency personnel on 13 randomly selected forests during the fall of 2011. Forests were randomly selected from three stratum of internal commitment from all 155 national forests' "Working Together" webpage. Of the 1584 respondent sample, 611 completed the questionnaire (40% response rate). Data collected clearly document a steady increase in the reliance of partnerships as a management strategy in recreation and resource service delivery. While the findings reveal diverse partnership support networks, respondents reported few incentives to cultivate partnerships and limited recognition for their partnership work. Furthermore, this study confirms that agency personnel work with multiple types of volunteer or partnering groups on a fairly regular basis, and make strategic choices when selecting and cultivating partnerships based on the types of work typically performed and their access and proximity to different partnering groups. Moreover, a mixed-method cluster analysis provided further insight into agency-partner interactions by identifying and defining partnership structural types and exposing variation in personnel's capacity to engage partners based on the level of internal support received, the extent of the national forest's partnership dependency, and type of external environment that categorizes the communities adjacent to the national forest (i.e., urban or rural). As the partnership phenomenon continues to be espoused by the USFS as an innovative and alternative management strategy, this thesis provides agency personnels' depiction of the agency's capacity to engage and support partnerships at multiple administrative levels and on different national forests, and helps build the foundation for managing national forests through partnerships.

The effectiveness of institutional support for women entrepreneursMari, Sithabile Garet 15 July 2012 (has links)
According to the former Minister of Trade and Industry, Andisa Mphahlwa, despite government support structures South African women entrepreneurs have not delivered the establishment of many successful and sustainable businesses, as expected. The majority of women are still trapped in the lower echelons of the economy. In contrast, other developing countries such as India, Argentina, and Brazil evidence high female entrepreneurship. This research study will focus on the effectiveness of operational, emotional and financial support provided by the dti (Department of Trade and Industry) initiatives driven through SAWEN (South African Women Entrepreneurs’ Network), examining the issue through gender lenses. This research study aims to establish how formal institutional policies’ effectiveness may be hindered by cultural norms inherent in the way women are treated by society, as well as in how they perceive themselves. The aim is to identify and highlight reasons for the lack of effective female entrepreneurship, with the aim of achieving high-impact entrepreneurship by women in South Africa with a view to growing the economy. The other standpoint adopted in this study is that women make choices to suit their personal circumstances, which may be the drivers of their business choices. This research will focus on the extent to which women want their businesses to expand. / Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) / unrestricted

Regulatory Focus, Persistence and New Venture PerformanceAdomako, Samuel 13 August 2020 (has links)
Yes / Purpose
The purpose of this article was to examine the joint effects of regulatory focus, entrepreneurial persistence, and institutional support on new venture performance.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper uses a random survey approach to sample 204 new ventures from Ghana. The moderated mediation method was used to analyze the survey data.
Findings
The findings from this paper show that entrepreneurs’ promotion focus positively relates to persistence whiles prevent focus negatively influences persistence. Besides, persistence mediates the link between regulatory focus (promotion and prevention focus) and new venture performance. These relationships are positively moderated by perceived institutional support.
Research limitations/implications
Using data from only the manufacturing sector in Ghana limits the generalisability of this paper. Also, persistence was not observed or measured directly in this paper but was only used as a self-reporting variable that captures an individual’s tendency to persist.
Originality/value
The contribution of this paper is threefold. First, this paper contributes to regulatory focus literature by enhancing our knowledge of how self-regulation could help explain entrepreneurial decision-making. Second, this paper broadens self-regulation literature by adding institutional context as a moderating variable. Third, this paper helps clarify the potential role of persistence in entrepreneurship.

The recent development of South African short film makingArcher, Nicholas Paul 15 November 2006 (has links)
Student Number : 9905214K -
MA research report -
School of Dramatic Art -
Faculty of Arts / South Africa’s film industry presently has huge, unrealised potential for growth.
Currently one of the most vibrant sectors of the local industry is short filmmaking.
This research’s main contention is that, for a number of reasons the
short form is the most viable form for film-making development to take. The short
film’s value as a training tool and essential building block for local film-making is
scrutinized. To this end the research incorporates a content and form analysis of
selected short films, with special reference made to the modes and economic
conditions of production that affect the film industry. To conclude, I take the
position that film-making, as a form of artistic and cultural dialogue, has
tremendous possibilities for the development of a national identity, the creation
and perpetuation of local myths and the fostering of social cohesion. For these
reasons the short form is worthy of more concerted institutional support.

New Models of the Unilateral PresidencyOuyang, Yu 01 January 2015 (has links)
Though scholars have assessed the unilateral presidency with renewed interests, the literature remains weak in three important areas. What relation, if any, exists between the public and presidential unilateral actions? What impact does the judiciary have on unilateral presidential power? To what extent do presidents use the many tools in the unilateral policy toolchest? The three essays in this dissertation address each of these questions in term. Results have implications for both the unilateral presidency and broader works in executive decision-making and democratic governance.

This intervention research lies on the interrogations that emerged from two work experiences: as a worker in the health department of a public university in Brazil, as well as an institutional supporter on one of the cities around Porto Alegre. This study intends to analyze the narratives concerning the experience of health-management interventions made on teams of a public university in order to understand how health, clinic and management are related in this work process. From this analysis, the theoric-methodological perspectives of Clinical Activity and Institutional Support are exploited to articulate the connections between them and amongst the institutional analysis, supporting a debate between the Brazilian Public Health System - SUS - and the experiences of the Servants Health Subsystem - SIASS. The methodological approach of this study adopts the cartography as a strategy to produce data and, such as tools, the field diary research and two rounds discussions with the department responsible for managing people, thematising the experience of intervetion with different teams from the University. George Canguilhem, Yves Clot, Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Félix Guattari, Gaston Wagner Campos, Emerson Elias Merhy and other contemporary brazilian authors are partners on this research, which is based on the concept of intercessors leading the discussion towards the clinical dimension presented in institutional support. Thus, it was concluded that the work of supporting work is formed by the context that combines infidelities of the environment and the unpredictability of the modes of subjectivity - through the everyday rounds discussions and its different arrangements. The double function servant-researcher could analise both clinic and academic institutions, enabling support experience towards occupational health.

Apoio institucional como determinante para ecoeficiência nas micro e pequenas empresas industriais: um estudo de caso para o município de MaceióMelo, Luzia Maria Cavalcante de 06 November 2006 (has links)
The objective of this study is to check the existent articulation between the institutional arrangement
favorable to the echo-efficiency and the industrial MSCs (Micro and Small Companies) in the city
of Maceió as a determinant to the use of echo-efficiency measures by these companies. The choice
of the municipal district of Maceió as a case study is due to the importance of MSCs in the
economy of Alagoas, which represents 98, 7% of the total existing companies in this state, where
54% of them are concentrated in Maceió. This research takes the hypothesis that the limitation of
resources and knowledge in relation to environmentally correct manners of production are factors
that hinder the echo-efficiency adoption in those companies. For this reason, the institutional
support is fundamental so that industrial MSCs in Maceió adopt echo-efficiency measures. For that,
a mapping of the main institutions was made with its actions related to the environmental subjects
close to MSCs. It was verified that the institutional support is of fundamental importance to the
MSCs echo-efficiency. Therefore, the institutional apparatus that works the echo-efficiency in those
companies is insignificant.
A escolha do
