Project GardenStrömberg, Ulf January 2008 (has links)

Using Interactive White Boards in Language Teaching : Back to Teacher Centeredness or a Step Forward?Nordqvist, Jasmine January 2015 (has links)
This essay examines the use of interactive white boards (IWBs) in English language teaching. The aim of the essay is to find out whether IWBs encourage a teacher-centred, transmission-based form of teaching. The project was carried out as a quantitative study of classroom observations, with the aim of counting teacher-initiated interactions in the classroom as a measure of teacher-centredness. Sinclair and Couldhard’s (1975) model of discourse analysis was used as a reference tool for counting the interaction in the classroom with the structure of Initiation, Response, Feedback (IRF). If IWBs encourage a transmission form of teaching, the number of IRF exchanges should be higher. The results of the study showed only a slightly higher average number of IRF exchanges during lessons where the IWB was use. The results also show several activities for which the IWB is used which involve a reduction in the number of IRF exchanges, and therefore providing the basis for the rejection of the hypothesis that IWBs encourage a transmission form of teaching. The essay comes to the conclusion that IWBs is a tool that can be used in a way that is suitable for today’s approaches to pedagogy

AN ARCHITECTURE FOR DIALOGUE MANAGEMENT SUPPORT IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS (FRAMEWORK, MODELING DYNAMIC, METHODOLOGY).KUO, FENG-YANG. January 1985 (has links)
The management of man-computer dialogues involves policies, procedures, and methodologies that enable users and designers to control, monitor, and enhance the user-computer interface. Effective dialogue management can be facilitated by a computer-aided work-bench of dialogue management tools that integrate pertinent environmental attributes into executable dialogue forms. Consequently, a methodology for generating dialogue designs is required. This research presents a framework for modeling user-computer interactions, or dialogues. The approach taken herein focuses on analysis of task, user, and information technology attributes. This analytical framework isolates dialogue entities and entity groupings. Together, these entities and their groupings suggest a language for information presentation and elicitation in the user-computer dialogue process. As a result, alternative dialogue models can be specified independent of hardware and software technologies. Furthermore, these models can be evaluated to ensure completeness, consistency, and integrity. Under this framework, various dialogue management functions can be integrated into a generalized dialogue management environment. Such an environment facilitates the transformation of task, user, and information technology attributes into executable dialogue definitions. The architecture of this environment is characterized by functionally layered and modularized software tools for dialogue management. The implementation of the proposed methodologies and the dialogue management architecture results in a set of dialogue management design facilities. These facilities foster effective management of dialogues within organizations and lead to a better understanding of the dialogue process.

Swimming upstream : a documentation of processMarks, Ilana Michelle 03 November 2011 (has links)
Swimming Upstream is an original work written, directed, and designed by Ilana Marks. The script tells the story of a gay sperm on a journey through the female body. A fully produced workshop performance occurred in the Oscar Brockett Theatre as part of The University Co-op Presents the Cohen New Works Festival. The performance of an excerpt from the script incorporated live actors, puppetry, multimedia, and music, and transformed the audience members into sperm involved in the ultimate game of chance. The purpose of this work was to explore and develop a personal creative process of storytelling.
This thesis documents the process that Ilana employed to create Swimming Upstream. She focuses on the incorporation of audience interaction into performance, looking to the work of performance artists, such as Julian Beck and Richard Schechner. In addition, she addresses the variation between the process and the final product, and the factors of the process that cultivated the disparity between the two. / text
