The health issue is a central problem and gain prominence in the unprecedent wave of 2013 protests around the country. This is caused by deficiencies in the Public Health Care System, used by about 80% of all Brazilians, and by the regulation for private solutions. However, there are initiatives, called social enterprises, which use market tools for people to have access to medicines, medical and dental care. These actions seek good financial results and provide high-quality care to the poor population. The goals are not easily achieved mainly by careful measurement and generation of social value. This study aims to identify how social businesses in healthcare deal with the metrics especially in related to social impact. Four social businesses and two social support organizations representatives were interviewed to understand how these issues were addressed and what the main barriers were. It was noted that little has been done on the impact analysis, since the focus of the companies is facing the financial sustainability. Through research, the interaction with the ecosystem performers is clearly important, contributing to overcoming barriers and difficulties in managing metrics and thus might improve the indicator evaluation. According to the pace of management indicators and the recent formation of this ecosystem it is still too early to say what could be the consequences of the lack of attention to these metrics, also about how to turn them into effective tools for strategic decisions. This topic should be better explored in future research.

Impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on trust and information sharing in South African automotive supply chainsGoche, Chiedza January 2012 (has links)
The Internet has made a considerable impact on how business is conducted. Empowered by technology consumers are using the Internet as a tool to communicate and transact online. E-commerce (electronic commerce) presents opportunities for business to gain a competitive advantage, however it also posses certain challenges. Small and Medium Hospitality Enterprises (SMHEs) sector within the tourism industry, is one of the sectors which stands to benefit from using the Internet for business. Researchers agree that the contribution made by the tourism sector in developing economies is substantial. However, SMHEs are noted for their failure to derive optimal benefits from using the Internet for business to improve their competitiveness. This study which seeks to develop a model for use by SMHEs as a guide when making the decision to adopt technology was necessitated by the importance of SMHE’s contribution in the economy of developing countries. This model is based on the examination of existing theories and models such as; the Delone and McLean IS success model (2004), and the ITGI’s (2007) IT governance focus areas model. To elicit the desired outcomes, additional data was collected using questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The collected data was analysed and resulted in the development of a model that can be used by SMHEs in order to derive value from IT and to gain a competitive advantage.

Whereas formal relations such as alliances have been well-studied, informal inter-organizational relations still need to be analyzed. This gap in the literature leads to the following research questions: How do organizations manage their informal inter-organizational relations? What are the effects of such relations? How can firms organize influencing activities based on these relations? The theory of dynamic capabilities addresses relations between the firm and its environment. The dynamic capabilities of the firm can be defined as the capacity of the firm to sense and shape opportunities and threats, to seize opportunities and to reconfigure assets. They permit the organization to adapt to and to shape its environment. This work contributes to answering the call from researchers to analyze the microfoundations of dynamic capabilities. It studies the role played by boundary spanners, individuals playing an interfacing role between the firm and its environment, in the dynamic capabilities of the firm. Further, this research leads to the conceptualization of the capacity to manage informal interorganizational relations as a dynamic capability allowing the firm to develop its absorptive capacity, legitimacy and influence on its environment.

Säkerheten först! : Informationsstruktur gällande säkerhet på en byggarbetsplatsFolkesson, Martin, Hellund, Carolin January 2020 (has links)
It is the responsibility of the employer to keep all workers safe and to promote a healthy work environment. Though there still remain work safety concerns, the construction industry has made a lot of progress addressing these issues over the last few decades. Safety research has and will continue to be a crucial part of this improvement. The focus of this study is to chart the structure for on-site dispersal of safety information amongst construction workers. The aim is to identify the known factors affecting information flow that are present at the construction site. Using Safety Climate theory as a framework enables the combining of Interorganizational Relations theory and Network theory, creating a tool for data analysis. Chosen method for data collection is semi-structured interviews followed by a study of the digital platforms mentioned by the respondents. The stock take of the information structure shows that the supervisor, and to a lesser degree the site manager, enables the information flow between actors within the construction site. The Safety Climate theory suggests that frequent communication between participants across all levels of the organization tend to facilitate ongoing discussions regarding safety. The results of the study confirm this conclusion. These discussions can, according to Safety Climate theory, lead to fewer accidents. The data indicate that well communicated safety information structure regarding both content and proceedings resulted in transparent information exchange. Language is a factor connected to difficulties with information exchange. Translations were found to be performed satisfactory, although the responsibility to perform said translations was not as well communicated. Overall the safety climate was regarded as satisfactory by the respondents at the construction site. The findings of this study have practical implications for construction safety efforts, due to the identified factors which can improve safety communication.

A Multi-Level, Cross-Level Examination of Leader and Team Member Outcomes of Leader-Leader Exchange DifferentiationRiggs, Brandon S. 08 1900 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Scholars have repeatedly demonstrated the positive benefits of high-quality leader-member exchange (LMX) for employees and organizations alike. Although some research has examined outcomes of differentiation of LMX relationships within teams, there is scant research into the way in which the combination of LMX and LMX differentiation (LMX-D) interact at the leader-level in the workplace hierarchy and the trickle-down effects these leader relationships have on subordinates. Moreover, no research has examined the potential buffering effect that subordinate team LMX may have on leaders who are experiencing the desire to withdraw from the organization as a result of the combination of their leader-leader exchange (LLX) relationships and the LLX differentiation (LLX-D) they perceive on their own leader teams. Thus, the present study sought to combine LMX and multilevel leadership theories to examine the effects of these leader-level exchange relationships on turnover intentions (TOI) for both individuals in leader-member dyads. Results suggested stronger negative relationships between LLX and TOI for both leaders and members when LLX-D is lower. However, examining this relationship at the leader-level when accounting for subordinate team LMX mean suggests that high-quality LMX relationships with the team members supervised by the leader attenuates the negative relationship between LLX and leader TOI. Theoretical and practical contributions are discussed, including the importance of the relationship of LLX, LLX-D, and team LMX mean on employee attitudes at multiple organizational levels.

Sources of Organizational Resilience During the 2012 Korean Typhoons: an Institutional Collective Action FrameworkJung, Kyujin 05 1900 (has links)
The objective of this proposed research is to test whether interorganizational collaboration contributes to the ability of an organization to bounce back swiftly from disasters. The research questions are examined from the Institutional Collective Action (ICA) perspective. The general argument of this dissertation is that organizational resilience can be explained by interorganizational collaboration. The ICA framework, specifically, identifies two general network structures to explain strategies that can be adopted to minimize collaboration risks: bonding and bridging structures. This dissertation focuses on how governmental and nongovernmental organizations in South Korea collaborated. The data was collected from the southeastern tip of the Korean Peninsula in August of 2012, and January of 2013. The 2012 Typhoons devastated the area after the first data set was collected in August 2012, causing the loss of estimated US$ 730 million and 29 fatalities. Afterward, the second survey was administrated in January of 2013 to gauge respondents’ views on how organizations responded to the disasters. This dissertation consists of three essays. The first essay presents a brief overview and assessment of the current research on resilience. The second essay empirically tests the sources of organization resilience. The third essay examines the dynamic nature of interorganizational ties by employing stochastic actor-based models. The findings show how organizations prefer to not coordinate with other organizations even though this could reduce their strains during a disaster. The findings also suggest that organizations that operate in higher risk areas or participate in joint full-scale exercises before a disaster form interorganizational ties afterward.

The relationship between personality variables and work performance of credit controllers in a bankCoetzee, Olga 30 November 2003 (has links)
The primary aim of the research has been to determine whether there is a relationship between personality variables as measured by the Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ32i) and the work performance of credit controllers in a bank. Work performance was measured by means of internal company data sources. A literature review was used to verify whether there is a theoretical relationship between personality and work performance and strong evidence was found.
The sample consisted of 89 credit controllers. The relationship between personality variables and work performance was determined by means of correlation studies and multiple regression analyses. Results are reported both in terms of statistical significance and effect sizes.
Key terms: personality, work performance, credit control, personality trait theory, Sixteen Personality Factors questionnaire (16PF), Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ). / Industrial and Organizational Psychology / M.Com. (Industrial Psychology)
