Análise e discussão de causas de níveis elevados de inventário em uma empresa que se autodenomina enxuta: comparação entre cenários de simulação de dados reais de uma empresa do setor automotivo / Analysis and discussion of causes of high levels of inventory in a company that calls itself lean: comparison between simulation scenarios of real data of a company in the automotive sector

Stella Yukiko Nakatsuka 27 October 2017 (has links)
The main purpose of this work is to evaluate the main variables that must be considered in the component buffer dimensioning of a company that works with Lean Manufacturing, which to a manufacturing cell should be supplied with a varied mix of similar sets to be produced . As a research validation mechanism, due to the dynamism inherent in the operation of production systems with cell layout, the Value Stream Mapping tool was used with the support of a commercial software simulation structure applying the developed application optimizer from a genetic algorithm in order to counteract the use of the cell supplier with the effective control of the inventory level of the buffer. As a result, different scenarios defined as experiments are presented, the main factor being the variation of the supply cycle time executed and the material flow as a parameter inherent to the demand for each of the components consumed in the manufacturing cell operation. Through the analysis of the results it was concluded that high levels of stock become or not necessary depending on the loading capacity per transport cycle of the conveyor and the cycle time required to perform the resupply activity. The relevance of the studied research theme lies in the relevant contribution to the information acquired locally in the reality of a company that works from the perspective of the Lean Manufacturing, in the increasing complexity of the productive systems and, consequently, of the difficulty of more precise analyzes of the impact that the flow variables, such as supply and handling time, setup time and the respective manufacturing routes, can cause in the process performance on the shop floor.

Bittencourt, Sergio Fernandes January 2010 (has links)
The production capacity sizing is a key process for companies’ success, even more if the organization is involved in a high seasonal environment. However, this process is often not fully discussed by the organizations for decision-making. When it is needed to review the production capacity sizing due to demand predictions, most companies act directly upon the quantity of equipment and redesign the process or, in cases the demand is higher than the production capacity and the company is unprepared to invest to increase capacity the decision is to cut sales. Instead of this, companies should consider production capacity sizing as a manageable, in a systemic way, reliable and robust process. The decision-making for this process should be influenced by scenarios definitions, economic and qualitative analysis. This work presents a method to help the economic sizing of production capacity for companies that are involved in seasonal environment. This method includes a discussion about capacity sizing considering four important phases: identification and exploration, analysis and proposals of alternatives, actions and implementation of the best scenario chosen and, finally evaluation and observations from the implemented scenario. In each phase, steps and activities are defined and illustrated through an application at a machining department of an agricultural machinery maker company. The application of this method at the machining area of the company resulted in a robust and reliable process implemented to help in decisionmaking when it is needed to review the production capacity based on demand predictions. The method brought benefits to organize the information and practice decision-making to choose the best scenario based on economic analysis, however the method proved to be very sensitive to the accuracy of demand predictions, which points, in future applications, to a necessary flexibility of this variable by conducting sensitivity analysis.

Deriving System Vulnerabilities Using Log Analytics

Higbee, Matthew Somers 01 November 2015 (has links)
System Administrators use many of the same tactics that are implemented by hackers to validate the security of their systems, such as port scanning and vulnerability scanning. Port scanning is slow, and can be highly inaccurate. After a scan is complete, the results of the scan must be cross checked with a vulnerability database to discover if any vulnerabilities are present. While these techniques are useful, they have severe limitations. System Administrators have full access to all of their machines. They should not have to rely exclusively on port scanning them from the outside of their machines to check for vulnerabilities when they have this level of access. This thesis introduces a novel concept for replacing port scanning with a Log File Inventory Management System. This system will be able to automatically build an accurate system inventory using existing log files. This system inventory will then be automatically cross checked with a database of known vulnerabilities in real-time resulting in faster and more accurate vulnerability reporting than is found in traditional port scanning methods.

Fluid Models for Traffic and Pricing

Kachani, Soulaymane, Perakis, Georgia 01 1900 (has links)
Fluid dynamics models provide a powerful deterministic technique to approximate stochasticity in a variety of application areas. In this paper, we study two classes of fluid models, investigate their relationship as well as some of their applications. This analysis allows us to provide analytical models of travel times as they arise in dynamically evolving environments, such as transportation networks as well as supply chains. In particular, using the laws of hydrodynamic theory, we first propose and examine a general second order fluid model. We consider a first-order approximation of this model and show how it is helpful in analyzing the dynamic traffic equilibrium problem. Furthermore, we present an alternate class of fluid models that are traditionally used in the context of dynamic traffic assignment. By interpreting travel times as price/inventory-sojourn-time relationships, we are also able to connect this approach with a tractable fluid model in the context of dynamic pricing and inventory management. Finally, we investigate the relationship between these two classes of fluid models. / Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA)

Improving Inventory Management in Small Business : A Case Study

Bai, Lining, Zhong, Ying January 2008 (has links)
Introduction: The growth of small business is fast and their impact on the economy is becoming bigger. How to manage the inventory effectively and efficiently often is a challenge for these small businesses. The study took place at HEM-SOL FORSALJNINGS AB, a company involved in gym sports equipment wholesale. For HEM-SOL two inventory problems, stock-out and overstock occur frequently. The company wants to improve its efficiency and is con-sidering a change in the inventory management. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the reasons behind the inventory management inefficiency in HEM-SOL, and then the proposed managerial suggestions will be presented to deal with the issues. Method: The study is considered as qualitative single-case study. Data collection is mainly through the interviews with the top manager and other staff involved in inventory control opera-tions. Secondary data is retrieved from the information system to provide the annual pur-chasing and sales report about twenty items using a purposive sampling approach. Data analysis follows the theoretical framework. Conclusion: Small businesses have limited financial resources and bargaining power. Long-distance suppliers, big fluctuation of demand and lack of formalized inventory control system result in HEM-SOL bad performance on inventory management. The authors analyze the col-lected data and establish a formal inventory control system as the solution to improve the company’s inventory management.
