Quadratic Inverse Problems and Sparsity Promoting Regularization: Two subjects, some links between them, and an application in laser opticsFlemming, Jens 11 January 2018 (has links)
Ill-posed inverse problems with quadratic structure are introduced, studied and solved. As an example an inverse problem appearing in laser optics is solved numerically based on a new regularized inversion algorithm. In addition, the theory of sparsity promoting regularization is extended to situations in which sparsity cannot be expected and also to equations with non-injective operators.

Analytische und numerische Studien zu inversen Problemen der Optionspreisbildung / Analytic and numerical studies of inverse problems of option pricingHein, Torsten 22 December 2003 (has links) (PDF)
The dissetation deals with the inverse problem of identification
of local volatilities from given option price data. The used
separation between purely time- and purely price-dependent
volatilities enables a detailed mathematical analysis of the
corresponding inverse problems. Those are formulated in proper
Banach spaces (Hilbert spaces) as operator equations. The
unique solvability of these equations are examined. Because
the solutions doesn't depend continuously form the given data,
possibilities of regularization are discussed. In particular
the nonlinear Tikhonov regularization and its applicability
to the corresponding problems plays the leading part in these
investigations. Detailed numerical studies illustrate these
considerations and top this disseration off.
Vordergrund. Ausführliche numerische Studien illustrieren die
diese Überlegungen und runden die Arbeit ab.

On the Influence of Multiplication Operators on the Ill-posedness of Inverse Problems / Zum Einfluss von Multiplikationsoperatoren auf die Inkorrektheit Inverser ProblemeFreitag, Melina 28 October 2004 (has links) (PDF)
In this thesis we deal with the degree of ill-posedness of linear operator equations in Hilbert spaces, where the operator may be decomposed into a compact linear integral operator with a well-known decay rate of singular values and a multiplication operator.
This case occurs for example for nonlinear operator equations, where the local degree of ill-posedness is investigated via the
Frechet derivative.
If the multiplier function has got zeroes, the determination of the local degree of ill-posedness is not trivial. We are going to investigate this situation, provide analytical tools as well as their limitations. By using several numerical
approaches for computing the singular values of the operator we find that the degree of ill-posedness does not change through those multiplication operators. We even provide a conjecture, verified by several numerical studies, how these multiplication operators influence the singular values of the operator equation.
Finally we analyze the influence of those multiplication operators on the opportunities of Tikhonov regularization and corresponding convergence rates. In this context we also provide a short summary on the relationship between
nonlinear problems and their linearizations.

Some stability results of parameter identification in a jump diffusion modelDüvelmeyer, Dana 06 October 2005 (has links) (PDF)
In this paper we discuss the stable solvability of the inverse problem of parameter identification in a jump diffusion model. Therefore we introduce the forward
operator of this inverse problem and analyze its properties. We show continuity of
the forward operator and stability of the inverse problem provided that the domain
is restricted in a specific manner such that techniques of compact sets can be exploited. Furthermore, we show that there is an asymptotical non-injectivity which
causes instability problems whenever the jump intensity increases and the jump
heights decay simultaneously.

On multiplication operators occurring in inverse problems of natural sciences and stochastic financeHofmann, Bernd 07 October 2005 (has links) (PDF)
We deal with locally ill-posed nonlinear operator equations F(x) = y in L^2(0,1),
where the Fréchet derivatives A = F'(x_0) of the nonlinear forward operator F are
compact linear integral operators A = M ◦ J with a multiplication operator M
with integrable multiplier function m and with the simple integration operator J.
In particular, we give examples of nonlinear inverse problems in natural sciences
and stochastic finance that can be written in such a form with linearizations that
contain multiplication operators. Moreover, we consider the corresponding ill-posed
linear operator equations Ax = y and their degree of ill-posedness. In particular,
we discuss the fact that the noncompact multiplication operator M has only a
restricted influence on this degree of ill-posedness even if m has essential zeros of
various order.

Parameter estimation in a generalized bivariate Ornstein-Uhlenbeck modelKrämer, Romy, Richter, Matthias, Hofmann, Bernd 07 October 2005 (has links) (PDF)
In this paper, we consider the inverse problem of calibrating a generalization of the bivariate Ornstein-Uhlenbeck model introduced by Lo and Wang. Even
though the generalized Black-Scholes option pricing formula still holds, option prices change in comparison to the classical Black-Scholes model. The time-dependent
volatility function and the other (real-valued) parameters in the model are calibrated simultaneously from option price data and from some empirical moments of
the logarithmic returns. This gives an ill-posed inverse problem, which requires a
regularization approach. Applying the theory of Engl, Hanke and Neubauer concerning Tikhonov regularization we show convergence of the regularized solution
to the true data and study the form of source conditions which ensure convergence
rates.

In this note, we consider an inverse problem in a jump diffusion model. Using
characteristic functions we prove the injectivity of the forward operator mapping
the five parameters determining the model to the density function of the return
