Arkitekturens tillstånd / The Condition of Architecture

Söderlind, Viktor, Hallström, Gustav January 2018 (has links)
We wanted to, with a physical structure, investigate and reflect on the difficulties and opportunities that built architecture meets. In an attempt to initially free ourselves from an overly formalistic work process, we saw the art of play as a catalyst for creativity. The play, and especially the playful human, influenced the project in several ways. For example, there has always been a strong sense of serendipity during the project development. We have been driven by a situationist mindset, in which action, especially during the early stages of the project, has prevailed over planning. In agreement with Debord’s reasoning in “The Society of the Spectacle” and Lefebvres “Right to the City”, we saw an opportunity to go against the passivizing influence induced by school and society.

"Afinidades y oposiciones en la narrativa colombiana - Una lectura de Jorge Isaacs, José Asunción Silva, Gabriel Garcia Marquez y Álvaro Mutis" / "Affinities and oppositions in the colombian narrative - A reading of Jorge Isaacs, José Asunción Silva, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Álvaro Mutis"

Ospina, Alfredo Laverde 19 May 2006 (has links)
This thesis establishes relationships of likeness and opposition in the Colombian literature among the authors of the XIX century, Jorge Isaacs and José Asunción Silva, and Gabriel García Márquez and Álvaro Mutis of the XX century. Starting from the writing concepts and history is sought to demonstrate that it is possible to not only make a reading of the central works of the Colombian literature in thematic terms, but aesthetic and ideological. Consequently, as we go going into in the reading of the works literary proposals it becomes evident the existence of two currents inside oneself literature. These two variants of oneself literature is sustained through the critical character of the modernity that possesses two modalities: the history’s conception like a succession of stages that necessarily take to the perfection, and the fragmentation taken place in the symbolic exchanges that it takes finish each fellow and that it has been expressed in terms of subjectivity. The first one is represented markedly by Isaacs and García Márquez like a regional and politics tendency; the second, cosmopolitan and hopeless, represented by Silva and Mutis.

[en] REGULARITY TRANSMISSION BY APPROXIMATION METHODS: THE ISAACS EQUATION / [pt] TEORIA DE REGULARIDADE POR MÉTODOS DE APROXIMAÇÃO: A EQUAÇÃO DE ISAACS

MIGUEL BELTRAN WALKER URENA 30 April 2020 (has links)
[en] Isaacs equation is an important example of fully nonlinear elliptic equation, appearing in a wide of disciplines. Of particular interest is the fact that such equations are driven by nonconvex operators. Therefore, it falls off the scope of the Evans-Krylov theory and poses additional, delicate, challenges when it comes to its regularity theory. We describe a series of recent results on the regularity theory of the Isaacs equation. These cover estimates in Holder and Sobolev spaces. We argue through a genuinely geometrical method, by importing information from a related Bellman equation.

Rape and Silence in J.M. Coetzee's Disgrace

Melkner Moser, Linda January 2012 (has links)
This essay discusses rape and silence in J.M. Coetzee’s novel Disgrace, with focus on how and why the characters Melanie and Lucy are silenced after being raped. Paying special attention to gender and race, as well as the novel’s South African context, an attempt is made to consider how rape is represented in Disgrace, and how this representation is related to the silence of Melanie and Lucy. The discussion’s theoretical framework is based on feminist theories on sexual violence and rape, as well as theory on cultural scripts, sexual scripts, and rape myths. This essay finds that the rapes in J.M. Coetzee’s Disgrace are representations of South Africa’s inverted racial power structures, and its traditional gender structures; structures that contribute to silencing Melanie and Lucy. This essay argues that Coetzee has deliberately activated South African cultural scripts in the text in an attempt to expose problematic viewpoints regarding gender and race in society, as well as in the reader.

Nonlinear H-infinity control and the Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs equation.

Ferreira, Henrique Cezar 10 December 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate practical aspects to facilitate the ap- plication of nonlinear H1 theory in control systems design. Firstly, it is shown that dynamic weighting functions can be used to improve the performance and robustness of the nonlinear H1 controller such as in the design of H1 controllers for linear plants. The biggest bottleneck to the practical applications of nonlinear H1 control theory has been the di±culty in solving the Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs equations associated with the design of a state feedback and an output injection gain. There is no systematic numerical approach for solving this ¯rst order, nonlinear partial di®erential equations, which reduces to Riccati equations in the linear context. In this work, successive ap- proximation and Galerkin approximation methods are combined to derive an algorithm that produces an output injection gain. Design of nonlinear H1 controllers obtained by the well established Taylor approximation and by the proposed Galerkin approxi- mation method applied to a magnetic levitation system are presented for comparison purposes.
