Comparative study of Ivan the Terrible and Peter the Great according to Soviet and foreign literature: a survey of literary and historical sources

Runge, Johann Hartwig Hermann January 1965 (has links)
In this critical analysis an attempt has been made to compare two Russian monarchs who both left a deep impression on Russia with the help of foreign and Soviet literature. Because of the fact that the strictly literary material was very limited, I had to turn to historical books of various periods and of different countries. These, however, have proved valuable in exposing me to quite contrasting points of view. Both men lend themselves exceptionally well to comparison because many of their doings are almost identical in purpose and vary only in the methods of execution. Soviet historiography has capitalized on this fact and has used literature as a means of showing Ivan the Terrible as a precursor of Peter the Great. At the same time Soviet literature is making an effort to emulate him for the adulation of the Soviet citizenry. Soviet literature today recognizes him as the great centralizer of Russia and the liquidator of the obstructing aristocracy. This comparison stresses the actions and feelings of Ivan the Terrible and Peter the Great in similar circumstances and situations. The system of treating the two tsars in almost identical situations has been followed right through this thesis in which I examine them in retrospect, i.e. from a distance 400 and 250 years respectively. Despite my efforts to visualize the tsars clearly, to compare, and to evaluate them and their actions "sine ira et studio", I may have fallen short of the desired standard, for it is quite difficult to deal with subjects as controversial as Ivan the Terrible and Peter the Great in a truly objective manner. / Arts, Faculty of / Central Eastern Northern European Studies, Department of / Graduate

The intent of the thesis. "A Contribution to Integrated Circuit Projects With GaAs MESFET", is to obtain a relationship between the Research on Devices laboratory (lPD) GaAs process and the integrated circuits develop using this process. The LPD develops integrated circuits using the "Rapid Thermal Diffusion of Sulphur in GaAs". The SPICE parameters of the GaAs devices (depletion transistors), made using this process, was extracted. A computer program was developed, that takes as input the carachteristics' curves of a device and gives as output the SPICE parameters according to the Raytheon Model (Statz et aI.). This model is used in the SPICE3-D2 (and upgraded version) developed by UC-Berkeley. We have obtained the experimental characteristics' curves fit with that of the medel with an errer les5 than 4%. We have, also written the technology file/design rules for MAGIC-6.3, for the LPD diffusion process. Using MAGIC we have developed a test chip ("chipteste") with devices and circuits. These devices will be used to extract parameters that will contribute to the fine tuning of the model and the LPD process / Mestrado / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Jozef Tiso ve slovenské historiografii / Josef Tiso into Slovak Historiography

Vostruha, Matěj January 2017 (has links)
This thesis is devoted to Jozef Tiso. It deals with the time of his reign amd the subsequent evaluation of his goverment in slovak historiography. It comes partly from authors who directly collaborated with Jozef Tiso as well as from those who are against this person strongly determine the events between 1948 does not forget nor authors who have worked abroad and then in 1989 returned to Slovakia. It is also the current controversies about Jozef Tiso, which are still present among Slovak historians. A separate chapter is devoted to the Catholic Church and its attitude to Jozef Tiso.

Den svaga aktörens framgång i marin kontext : En teoriprövande studie om nyttjandet av irreguljär krigföring i marina konflikter

Lissner, Anna January 2021 (has links)
Research in the area of irregular naval warfare has been found to be deficient. Therefore, this essay aims to contribute to broaden the theorizing within this area. Arreguin- Toft´s Strategic interaction theory in force- asymmetric conflicts, involves the use of irregular warfare as a relatively weak actor in an asymmetric conflict. This theory, along with essential element of Sea Power theory, creates the theoretical framework. To examine its explanatory power in an naval context, the study was conducted as a theory testing case study. The to cases are the Tanker War 1984-1988 and the Battle at Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, 1945. The results showed that the Strategic interaction theory, to some extent, possessed the ability to explain the outcome in both cases. One conclusion that can be made, is that a relatively weak naval actor can benefit from the use of irregular strategies to prevent a relatively strong navy’s attempt to secure command of the sea.

Optimized Photogrammetric Network Design with Flight Path Planner for UAV-based Terrain Surveillance

Rojas, Ivan Yair 01 December 2014 (has links) (PDF)
This work demonstrates the use of genetic algorithms as a stochastic optimization technique for developing a camera network design and the flight path for photogrammetricapplications using Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. This study develops a Virtual Optimizer for Aerial Routes (VOAR) as a new photogrammetric mapping tool for acquisition of images to be used in 3D reconstruction. 3D point cloud models provide detailed information on infrastructure from places where human access may be difficult. This algorithm allows optimized flight paths to monitor infrastructure using GPS coordinates and optimized camera poses ensuring that the set of images captured is improved for 3D point cloud development. Combining optimization techniques, autonomous aircraft and computer vision methods is a new contribution that this work provides. This optimization framework is demonstrated in a real example that includes retrieving the coordinates of the analyzed area and generating autopilot coordinates to operate in fully autonomous mode. These results and their implications are discussed for future work and directions in making optical techniques competitive with aerial or ground based LiDAR systems.
