Decoding of the Gendered Implications in Love Songs

Love has been one of the most important issues in human life for all time. It means strong emotional and physical connections and lets people indulge themselves in its joy, depression, anticipation, and striving. Among popular music nowadays, there are always descriptions about love in most of songs, which called ¡§Love Songs¡¨. The goal of this study is to observe how the users interpret the gendered implications in love songs when they are listening to them. Furthermore, this study tries to find out the relation between users¡¦ interpretations of love songs and their love experiences and imaginations. Adopting the method of in-depth interviewing, this study interviewed 11 college students and collected related information. Through analyzing the interpretation toward specific love song lyrics of these interviewees and their explanations about their own love experiences and imaginations, this study finds that users will think about the gendered implications in the specific love song lyrics they chose when they are engaging in love song decoding. At the same time, they show their understanding toward the mainstream gender discourse. With the comparisons between users¡¦ decoding and mainstream gender discourse, this study categorizes the decoding of love songs of users into three positions: preferred, negotiated, and oppositional/ critical. Meanwhile, users will connect their love experiences and imagination about love relationship to the characters and plots in love songs, expressing their attitudes to the characters, including of identification, denial, projection, and question. Besides, study finds that there is a two-way interactive relationship between users; love songs decoding and their love experiences and imaginations. That is, not only users¡¦ love experiences and imaginations would influence their interpretations of love songs, users¡¦ interpretations of love songs would also influence their imaginations and anticipations toward love

What made you a Love phobic or Passion craver? : The influence of Love Experiences and Attachment patterns on Attitudes of Love

The purpose of this study was to examine possible links between relationship beliefs (Implicit Theories of Relationships and Importance of intimacy and passion), love experiences (experience of Intimacy and Passion) and attachment styles (the dimensions of Avoidance and Anxiety), in order to predict what kind of experiences and attachment patterns, would lead to which belief. A survey consisting of four different measures was filled out by 165 participants. The results showed Destiny and Growth beliefs were both predicted by Attachment avoidance. Destiny belief was also predicted by Experience of passion. Importance of passion and Importance of intimacy were both predicted by Attachment anxiety, Importance of passion by Experience of passion and Importance of intimacy by Experience of intimacy. People with different levels of Implicit Theories of Relationships showed a significant difference in Importance of passion.

A Study of the Relationship Between Romantic Love and Marital Adjustment in Middle-Class Couples

This study investigates the relationship between romantic love and marital adjustment in a sample of middle class couples. Romantic love is defined as a general disposition an individual has toward love, marriage, the family, and relationships involving male-female interaction in which the affective component is regarded as primary and all other considerations are excluded from conscious reflection. Marital adjustment is defined as the positive accomodation of husband and wife interacting within the framework of a legally established marital relationship. Middle socioeconomic class is operationally defined as a specific quantitative range on the Warner Index of Social Characteristics. This study examines the nature of any quantifiable relationship between romantic love and marital adjustment, current or future. Three views of this relationship are investigated. The first view contends that romanticism is functional, contributing to positive marital adjustment. The second is characterized by the belief that romantic love has a negative impact upon marital adjustment and is dysfunctional. A third view of the relationship between romantic love and marital adjustment suggests that the critical element determining dysfunctionality is the isparity between partners, rather than the individual level of romanticism. No author has heretofore considered this alternative.

Background: The luxury streetwear market has significantly grown and transformed over recent years, driven by the mix of high fashion and urban culture. An intriguing example within this niche is the Yeezy brand, and its development in collaboration between a human celebrity Kanye West and a sportswear brand Adidas. Since its founding in 2015, Yeezy has disregarded traditional fashion norms with its unique approach to design and marketing, forming a devoted consumer base despite various controversies surrounding its founder. The brand’s ability to maintain a strong brand love despite negative publicity presents an intriguing case for examining the main factors contributing to its sustained success. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the phenomenon of brand love towards the luxury streetwear brand Yeezy, owned by Kanye West, and to investigate how this brand love has been built and sustained despite the negative publicity surrounding its founder. By examining various aspects of brand love towards Yeezy, including the overall brand experience, the study aims to uncover the factors contributing to a brand's reputation and consumer attachment and to provide an updated model of the prototype of brand love towards luxury streetwear. Method: Using existing frameworks as a starting point, the phenomenon of brand love towards the  brand Yeezy was investigated by conducting semi-structured interviews with people who love the brand. Analysis of  previous concepts on brand love and the real-life data obtained from the respondents was combined to provide insights and to create an updated model of the prototype of brand love towards luxury streetwear. Conclusion: This thesis investigated the phenomenon of brand love towards Kanye West's brand, Yeezy and provided a model of the prototype of brand love towards luxury streetwear. Through in-depth interviews with a diverse group of Yeezy customers, the study revealed the essential elements, such as Good Quality, Intrinsic Rewards and Positive Affect, Self Identity, Willingness to Invest, Frequent Thought of Use and Length of Use, in combination with Popularity, Prestige, Exclusivity and Fashionability, as main aspects that sustain and strengthen brand love.

Teaching (with) love: relational engagement in educational settings

The purpose of this study was to investigate school professionals’ conceptualizations and experiences of love in their work with children. In order to investigate the place of love in educational settings, semi-structured interviews with school professionals were conducted. Results from the interviews were analysed using thematic analysis and feedback on the identified themes was provided by participants during a second phase of interviewing. There was agreement among all participants that loving practice and good pedagogical practice are compatible, and that loving practice benefits students’ overall school experience. Key similarities across participants’ descriptions of loving practice include; the importance of positive relationships and positive boundaries within these relationships, the social, emotional and academic benefits of loving practice, and the relevance of self-care. Parallels are drawn between understandings of praxis in child and youth care and loving practice as defined by the participants in this study. The roles of building community and conscious reflection in loving practice are also explored. Through this work, I hope to offer the reader an opportunity to be more mindful about the role of love in their own professional practice. / Graduate
