Defensor dos indígenas e dos cristãos-novos, Vieira é autor de muitos sermões, por meio dos quais pregava ao povo, conseguindo, por sua oratória, unir pessoas de diferentes origens sociais. O poder da sua argumentação era algo divino e, até nos dias de hoje, suas obras são lidas e lembradas. Essa foi uma das razões que motivaram a proposta desta nossa pesquisa. Nosso foco foi analisar a questão da coerência, segundo a metarregra de relação, proposta por Charolles (2002), aplicando-a em uma de suas Cartas do Brasil, a Carta Ânua. Motivou-nos a isso a quase certeza de que, para o entendimento do leitor moderno, especialmente dos jovens, a relação entre o texto e os estados de coisas narrados poderia oferecer obstáculos consideráveis, uma vez que essa relação é necessariamente mediada por fatores históricos e culturais, envolvendo valores da época em que foram escritos. Em outras palavras, é necessário que ações, estados ou eventos narrados em um texto sejam percebidos como congruentes dentro do mundo reconhecido por quem o avalia. A escolha da Carta Ânua deveu-se ao fato de Vieira narrar, segundo seu ponto de vista, os acontecimentos da primeira invasão holandesa no Brasil. Além do trabalho de Charolles (op. cit.), usamos também, como ferramenta teórica, a teoria dos frames, de acordo com a ótica de Kövecses (2006) / Abstract: Father Antonio Vieira, great Portuguese writer of the Baroque period, master in oratory, philosopher, was one of the most influent people in the XVII century. Protector of Indians and new-Christians, Vieira is the author of many sermons, by which he preached to people, achieving by his oratory to connect people from different social origins. The power of his rhetoric was divine and, until nowadays, his works are read and remembered. That was one of the reasons that induced the proposal of our research. Our focus was to analyze the issue of coherence, according to the relation rule proposed by Charolles (2002), applying it to one of Vieira's Brazilian Letters, Carta Anua. This choice was motivated by the fact that, to the reader's modern understanding, especially the young ones, the relationship between the text and the related state of affairs could impose considerable barriers, because that relationship is necessarily mediated by historic and cultural reasons, encompassing values from the time they were written in. In other words, it is necessary that actions, states, or narrated events in a text be understood as congruent to the accepted world belonging to whom measures it. The choice of Carta Anua is also due to the fact that Vieira narrates, according to his viewpoint, the events of the first Dutch invasion in Brazil. During the last ten years, there has been a remarkable increase in the number of cases involving incidents of fraud in standby letters of credit. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the effect of fraud on standby letters of credit transactions. This study principally deals with standby letters of credit issued under the 1983 Revision of the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits, drafted by the International Chamber of Commerce, which is a set of internationally recognized rules for documentary credit operations. Due to the international character of letters of credit law, I have adopted a comparative approach that deals with materials from the U.S., Canada, U.K., Germany and Switzerland. This thesis will first show that there are two types of standby letters of credit, which have to be distinguished because they involve different obligations and risks for the parties. A device payable against the beneficiary's simple statement will be described as a "simple statement" standby credit, whereas a device payable against a set of documents will be called a "documentary" standby credit. The thesis will then demonstrate why the treatment of fraud should not be the same for "simple statement" standby credits and "documentary" standby credits. / Law, Peter A. This thesis analyses letters and other archival material associated with Olive Schreiner (1855-1920) and her network(s) to conceptualise and theorise aspects of "letterness" and networks. Its premise is that such qualitative micro-level analysis of letters and other historical documents can contribute effectively to contemporary thinking about both epistolarity and social networks and their analysis. Using the existing literatures on Schreiner, epistolarity and social network analysis as a starting point, the analysis of letters and other relevant archival material is used to inform the setting of analytical boundaries. Then five examples of Schreiner-related networks – the Lytton to Carpenter letters, the Great War letters to Aletta Jacobs, letters of the Men and Women‟s Club, women‟s letters to Jan Smuts, and letters in the Schreiner-Hemming family collection - are analysed to demonstrate the validity of the premise and to contribute in an innovative and in-depth way to conceptual and theoretical ideas in the field. In doing so, the thesis offers an in-depth analysis of letters and networks in a variety of historical social contexts, identifying key features within each network and exploring whether these are case-specific or generalizable in theoretical terms. This thesis argues that many existing concepts such as those of reciprocity, brokering, bridging, gatekeeping and dyads can be teased out in an analytically helpful way by using letters to reveal the variations and nuances of these concepts in micro-levels interactions. It also considers network size, arguing that existing assessments of this based on frequency of contact, emotional intensity and time since last contact are not in fact particularly important in relation to the analysis of these networks and their epistolary communications. Rather, it is what happens in networks and the letters associated with them, with network members using and deploying their letter-writing in strategic and instrumentally ways. The key arguments made by the thesis concerning letters and networks are: that the size of a network is important but not deterministic; that the balance of reciprocity in letter exchanges and correspondence is highly complex, with this emergent through letter-exchanges, letter content and also enclosures of different kinds; that the purpose of a network and the existence of central figures within it creates propulsions and constraints; that brokering is neither necessarily positive nor always proactive action; that the complex nature of interpersonal ties and how these change over time affects both letters and networks; that letters and their writers can be future-orientated rather than retrospectively focused; and, that this orientation towards the future can influence decisions concerning the retention and archivisation of letters - a fundamental issue in epistolary research - and subsequently what can be gleaned from them concerning networks.

PERSAN LETTERS- Abstract This thesis examines the conception of style in Persan letters. The point of this thesis is uncover unify elements of this novel. The first part of the study describe life of author and analyse the technique of the novel. We are posing a questions, why did author used the technigue of the novel in his letters and why is the story placed in oriental environment. Than we focused on use of irony with concrete part analysis. The second part is devote to main and side characters characteristics. We are trying to determine common and different elements in their description. We are looking for authobiographical attributes too. The last part examine the period neologisms use as a tool for parody of Parisian aristocracy salon speach.
