Effect Of Different Levels Of Education On Economic Development In Turkey: A Panel Analysis

Husamoglu, Muserref 01 December 2008 (has links) (PDF)
In this study, I aimed to examine the impact of different levels of education on real GDP (and real GDP per workforce) in Turkey, and hence the relationship between different levels of education and the standard of living is estimated by panel data techniques. The panel data set in the study is constructed by pooling 67 provinces of Turkey over the period of 1975-2000. Furthermore, in the empirical work, two models are employed: the model introduced by Knowles (1997) and the augmented Solow model with different levels of education. The panel data estimation of the Knowles&rsquo / s model implies that the secondary level of schooling has the greatest contribution to real GDP, while the augmented Solow model implies that the higher level of schooling has the largest impact on real GDP per workforce.

APPLYING THE RASCH MODEL TO MEASURE AND COMPARE FIRST- GENERATION AND CONTINUING-GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC SELF-EFFICACY

Knutson, Nichole Marie 01 January 2011 (has links)
Students who are the first in their families to attend college are less likely to earn a college degree as compared to their continuing-generation peers. In efforts to increase college graduation rates for first-generation college students, support programs designed to assist first-generation college students are increasing in numbers. These first- generation programs are relying on existing research to build effective curriculums. Even though an extensive body of literature exists in the fields of self-efficacy and first- generation college students, research investigating the self-efficacy of first-generation college students are extremely limited. The research is further limited when examining academic self-efficacy and generational status. The purpose of this study is to investigate if parental levels of education affect college students’ self-reported levels of academic self-efficacy. The following research questions guided this study: 1) Do survey response hierarchies differ between first-generation college students and their continuing- generation counterparts on a scale that measures academic self-efficacy?, 2) Do levels of item endorsability vary based upon parental levels of education? and 3) Do the results produced from the college student survey support the existing literature on first- generation college students and academic-self-efficacy? Quality control indicators were utilized to assess the soundness of the instrument and to ensure that the rating scale functioned appropriately. Variable maps were used to compare and contrast student responses and item hierarchies. Pairwise differential item functioning (DIF) was used to examine item endorsability based upon levels of parental education. Results encourage practitioners to be mindful of the importance of data-informed decision making.

As buscas retornaram 45 trabalhos (15 teses e 30 dissertações). / ABSTRACT To educate is to teach useful behaviors to the student and the verbal community in wich he is inserted. The objective of this master dissertation was to identify, in doctoral thesis and master dissertations produced between 2005 and 2015, how Behavior Analysis’s concepts were applied in educational contexts. In order to achieve this objective, a bibliographic research (state of knowledge) was carried out. Once the data were collected in the Brazilian Scientific Publishing Portal (http://oasisbr.ibict.br/vufind/) the key words were in Portuguese: Análise do Comportamento, Behaviorismo Radical, B. F. Skinner, Educação Infantil, Ensino Fundamental, Ensino Médio, Educação Superior, Educação de Jovens e Adultos, Educação Profissional e Tecnológica, Educação Especial, Educação Básica do Campo, Educação Escolar Quilombola e Educação à Distância. 45 works were the outcome of these searches (15 doctoral thesis and 30 master dissertations). 82% of these works are from the southeast region of Brazil. 44% of the selected works were from PUC-SP university and 20% were from UFSCar university. The most frequent concepts were, respectively: matching-to-sample, rules and shapping. The most cited level of education was Educação Básica (more specifically, Ensino Fundamental). As for the modalities of education, only Educação Especial was mentioned.
