Die kerklike lewe van die Afrikaners in Argentinië, 1903-1915 / F.R.P De Bruyn

De Bruyn, Frans Roelf Petrus January 1974 (has links)
My opgewondenheid was groot. Dit was soos die ontdekking van 'n ryk diamantmyn, en sonder veel inspanning kon ek reeds die een na die ander diamant na buite bring waarin die volmaaktheid van God se raad ook t.o.v. Sy kerk in Argentinië geblyk het. / Thesis (MTh)--PU vir CHO.

Die probleem van kommunikasie in die godsdiensonderrig aan die hedendaagse kind / Andries Jacobus van den Berg

Van den Berg, Andries Jacobus January 1978 (has links)
The ability to communicate is a basic characteristic of man. Communication therefore fills an important and central place in Religious Instruction. Today communication is a problem in all spheres of society and particularly in Religious Instruction. The fundamental cause of the problem of communication is the disturbed relationship between man and God caused by the original sin. The result thereof is a distortion of all human communication. Through Jesus Christ man has obtained the opportunity to restore his relationship with God and thus the possibility of better human communication. This possibility only becomes reality when the individual accepts Jesus Christ is the foundation for true communication. Before true communication can take place both the child and the teacher must be in gear with God's Word. The most important requirement for communication in Religious Instruction for both teacher and child is that they must be Christians. The number of non-Christian children in schools is increasing. This brings a new facet in Religious Instruction which suggests evangelization, and requires a new approach in respect of the syllabi, textbooks, training of teachers and classroom teaching. In order to communicate with the child one must know and understand him. The intellectual level, the environment and the mental attitude of today's child is in many respects totally different to that of the child of previous generations. In order to adapt to the child of today a new approach in Religious Instruction is necessary. The present selection and arrangement of the subject matter in Religious Instruction is outdated and needs to be replanned. It must meet the actuality-requirements of the modern child and society. Communication has a central place in every aspect of Religious Instruction and therefore the entire method of Religious Instruction must be based om communication. However, at present this is not always the case. Thorough planning, training and presentation in Religious Instruction is essential, but our trust must not be therein. True communication is the work of God, and the true strength in Religious Instruction is the strength of God. What we actually seek and need in our work is God’s blessing. / Thesis (MEd)--PU vir CHO

Translating Karel Schoeman's Hierdie lewe : strategies, decisions and process

Silke, Elsa 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil)--Stellenbosch University, 2004. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to produce an English translation of the first part of Karel Schoeman's novel Hierdie lewe, translated as This Life. The thought processes of the translator are illustrated by means of descriptive annotations. The choice of source text is motivated and the specifications of the target text are formulated. The problem is stated that relatively few of Schoeman's fictional works have been translated into English or other languages and it is suggested that this might be because Schoeman's work is difficult to translate, or even untranslatable. A possible reason for this may be Schoeman's distinctive style: rhythmic, lyrical and rich in imagery. The source culture may also be too specific and the cultural gap too wide. A hypothesis is formulated that translation is possible if the translational problems are identified. Certain strategies are devised and solutions suggested. A hermeneutic interpretation of the source text and an overall strategy of resistancy are advocated, resulting in a target text with a marked source-text inscription. However, a measure of domestication is unavoidable in the light of the final goal to create an equivalent text which is still readable and will not alienate its addressees. A discussion of relevant concepts from translation studies theory substantiates and motivates the choice of translation strategies and solutions. A thorough reading analysis of the source text supplies the context for an interpretation. Descriptive annotations focus on the translator's methodology. Conclusions are drawn about the effectiveness of the chosen strategies and suggestions are made for further study.

The influence of job requirements on the personal lives of planners in the Department of Land Affairs

Koto, Isaac Semathane 19 April 2010 (has links)
Work is a central activity in human lives and we cannot afford to talk about work and exclude employees, especially on how their personal lives are being influenced by the job requirements on daily basis. The work environments are ever changing due to a number of internal and external pressures. These changes result in adjustments of job requirements which in turn influence employees’ personal lives which constitute of the emotional, physical, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions. The nature and extent of the actual influence is depended of a number of factors like employee demographics, the business process of each job, employee perceptions about the requirements of their jobs and the actual job requirements demands. The goal of this study was to explore and describe the influence of the job-requirements on the personal lives of the Planners in the Department of Land Affairs. The objectives of this study were:

To conceptualise theoretically the influence of job requirements on the personal lives of employees.

To undertake an empirical study to investigate the influence of the specific job requirements on the personal lives of Planners in the Department of Land Affairs.

To draw conclusions and make recommendations to the Department of Land Affairs on how to address the needs of Planners and to formulate guidelines to enhance the Planners’ quality of life.

In the context of quantitative research, the researcher utilised applied research since this study was designed to offer practical solutions to problems experienced by the Department of Land Affairs on improving quality of life for Planners thus enhancing productivity. Group administered questionnaires were utilised as a data collection method and it was pilot tested with three employees at the National Office of the Department of Land Affairs who did not form part of the actual study. The population of the study was 51 and all of them completed the questionnaire. The results of the study showed that employees who were employed as Planners by the Department of Land Affairs at the Mpumalanga Regional Land Claims Commission, were exposed to job requirements which to a larger extent had a negative influence on certain dimensions of their personal lives. The goal of the study was achieved in that the researcher did not only manage to explore and describe the influence of the job requirements on the personal lives of the Planners in the Department of Land Affairs but also managed to give recommendations to the Department of Land Affairs on how to enhance quality of life of Planners. Twee Afrikaanse romans in Engels : ’n ondersoek na die werkswyses van literere vertalers

Swart, Marius 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil (Afrikaans and Dutch))--University of Stellenbosch, 2009. / In this descriptive study, recent translations into English of two highly-regarded Afrikaans novels are investigated. The purpose of this is to describe these translations in a comparative manner, in order to arrive at conclusions about the differing modi operandi of diverse literary translators. The texts studied are Agaat by Marlene van Niekerk (2004) and Hierdie lewe by Karel Schoeman (1993), titled Agaat (2006) and This Life (2005) in English, and translated by Michiel Heyns and Elsa Silke, respectively. The two translators differ in that one is a creative writer in own right, though not being a formally-trained translation scholar, and translated with input from the source text author. The other is not a creative writer, translated without input from the author and has a formal translation-theoretical qualification. In this study, the target texts produced by these two translators are compared with their respective source texts, in order to determine whether there are differences or similarities in their modi operandi. A theoretical framework is compiled using relevant translation theories in order to systematise the comparison of the source texts and their translations. The novels are then compared to their translations in turn, on various levels, in order to describe the modus operandi of each translator. This results in certain conclusions being drawn about the different ways in which diverse translators work. These conclusions are linked to norms apparent in the decisions the translators make, or the lack thereof, as well as the role of the translation skopos. A number of topics for further research are also mentioned.

Vervreemdingstegnieke in Gert Vlok Nel se digbundel Om te lewe is onnatuurlik

Le Roux, Christiaan Johannes 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA) -- Stellenbosch University, 1998. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In this thesis the techniques of defamiliarisation in Gert Vlok Nel's Om te lewe is onnatuurlik (1993) are investigated, especially with the aid of the Russian Formalist concept ostranenie. The introductory chapter expounds the theoretical basis. With reference to some reviews the question is investigated whether the volume can be regarded as worker poetry. After this follows an explanation of the concept ostranenie as understood by the Formalists, especially Victor Shklovsky, and of the concept Verfremdungseffekt as formulated by Bertolt Brecht. These concepts are then compared with the postmodemist notion of de-naturalization as used by, for example, Linda Hutcheon. In addition to Formalist theory other theories will be used in an eclectic fashion: semiostructuralism (Mikhail Bakhtin and Michael Riffaterre), reception theory (Wolfgang Iser) and psychoanalysis (Harold Bloom). Because om te lewe is onnatuurlik was created in postmodemity, the theoretical approach is also predominantly of a poetmodern nature. In the practical part of the thesis seven poems are discussed in order to highlight the principal techniques of defamiliarisation in each one: the use of ellipses and parody ("die dag toe hulle vir Donkie Viviers"); selfreflexivity and metafidional elements (desember & see"); childlike focalisation and register (soeklig" and "boggellug"); typographical experimentation ("landskap"); spatial relativation ("Rita" and "hillside") and retardation ("hillside").
