Lira, Elda Lopes January 2007 (has links)
A pesquisa aqui proposta teve abordagem qualitativa. / This study had as the objective to know the representation manifested social an the speech of the librarians professionals working in university libraries about your contribution at formation of the university student of graduation. Leadership styles of senior librarians in the City of Cape Town

Denton, Theresa Leoni January 2013 (has links)
Magister Bibliothecologiae - MBibl / This study investigated the following: “Leadership styles of senior librarians in the City of Cape Town”. Stueart and Moran (1998) state that despite the vast amount of knowledge, training and focus on management, little is known about how to lead efficiently and effectively. The motivation behind this study originated from the assumption that determining the different leadership styles of senior librarians could contribute to a more effective public library service. If senior librarians were made aware of particular outcomes prompted by certain behaviour, they would be empowered to evaluate their leadership styles and adapt them in a more effective way, which could in turn lead to a more effective public library service. / South Africa

Construction of Professional Identity in Novice Library Media Specialists

Sandford, Deborah W 17 May 2013 (has links)
The roles of the person who works in a school library, as well as their title - librarian, teacher-librarian, library teacher, library media specialist, school librarian, library media teacher - have undergone countless revisions since the first official school libraries opened their doors in the early 1900s. Although school library media specialists (LMSs) have struggled to negotiate their identities in public K12 education for decades, this "identity crisis" seems to have reached a critical point due to changes in U.S. learning environments brought about by federal legislation, the implementation of standards-based teaching, the emphasis on standardized criterion referenced testing, and the proliferation and ubiquitous use of computers and the Internet as information sources. Although teacher identity has been thoroughly studied, the ways in which LMSs describe themselves in their professional role and how their identities change from pre-service to in-service are rarely investigated. Using Holland, Lachicotte, Skinner, and Cain’s (1998) theory of identity and their concept of figured worlds as a framework, this study explores how four novice LMSs negotiated the identities made available to them in the figured worlds of their public K12 school environments. The following questions guided the study: 1. How do novice library media specialists describe their professional identities? a. How does personal history inform the construction of professional identity of novice library media specialists? b. How do novice library media specialists negotiate identity within the figured worlds of public K12 schools? The four participants were first year LMSs recruited from a large urban school district in the southeastern United States. Data collection took place over the course of the 2011-2012 school year and included in-depth interviews, document analysis, journal responses, and observations. Findings indicate that the figured worlds in which novice library media practitioners begin their careers are often shaped by the experiences that faculty, administrators, and students have had with previous LMSs and bear significant influence on the identities afforded new LMSs as well as their own experiences with LMSs prior to their preparation programs.

Bibliotekariestereotypen i en digital tid : En analys av bibliotekariediskurser i barnlitteratur utgiven mellan 2000–2020 / The Librarian Stereotype in the Digital Age : An Analysis of Librarian Discourses in Children’s Literature Published between 2000-2020

Listerfelt, Jennifer January 2021 (has links)
This master thesis explores the librarian discourses in children’s literature published between the years of 2000-2020. The purpose of this essay is to explore however the technical development in the real-life libraries also can be found in the libraries described in children’s literature. I have also explored how these technical tools and work tasks are portrayed in the literature. The material consists of 18 children’s novels. The theory and method used are Laclau and Mouffe’s discourse theory combined with a model created by Hedemark and Hedman in 2002. My version of the model contains four fields: Names, traits and qualities, themes of which librarians are discussed and discourses. The major questions for this study are: - What discourses about librarians, their tasks and traits, can be found in children’s literature published between 2000-2020? - How do these librarian discourses differ from discourses found in previous research about librarian discourses in literature? - How is the technical development in libraries, compared to the real-life libraries, portrayed in children’s literature? How are the librarians’ technical tasks presented and what tools are used for these technical tasks? The findings of the essay are four different librarian discourses; The Buddy Librarian, The Structured Librarian, The Mythical Librarian and The Pedagogical Librarian. Some of the librarian discourses are similar to the ones in previous research, but most of them do not resonate with the earlier studies. In the novels, many of the librarians have technical tasks, such as checking out books on the computer, which resonates with the real-life libraries. The conclusion of the master thesis, is that many of the children’s novels do portray librarians who do technical task as a part of their daily work. This is a two years master's thesis in Library and information science.
