É possível encontrá-lo tanto nas personagens de alguns de seus romances - Caetés, São Bernardo e Angústia - quanto nas reminiscências do autor-narrador em suas autobiografias - Infância e Memórias do cárcere. Dois desses livros foram escolhidos como corpus da dissertação: Angústia e Infância. Dessa maneira, há, entre eles, uma diferença no que tange à forma literária - romance e autobiografia - o que, por conseguinte, acarreta modos distintos de análise. O objetivo de nossa pesquisa é investigar como se dá a narração via memória, nessas obras de gêneros dessemelhantes, no que tem a ver, principalmente, com a mediação entre literatura e sociedade que pode ser constatada textualmente nas narrativas. A literatura apresenta a capacidade de nos inserir em certa História, pois a sua forma/conteúdo apresenta sintomas de um certo período do qual o escritor não pode se alienar completamente; por isso, as tensões sociais são, em diferentes graus, figuradas na narrativa. Para atingir esse objetivo, amparamo-nos na seguinte base teórico-crítica, dividida em quatro linhas principais: ensaios críticos sobre Graciliano Ramos e sua obra, em especial, sobre Angústia e Infância - como Ficção e confissão, Antonio Candido, textos inseridos na coletânea Graciliano Ramos, organizada por Sônia Brayner, A ponta do novelo, de Lúcia Helena Carvalho, Uma história do romance de 30, de Luís Bueno, e mais diversos ensaios e artigos... (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The rememorative effort is a remarkable aspect concerning Gracilian Ramos' works. It is possible to find this aspect in the characters of some of his novels - Caetés, São Bernardo and Anguish - and in the reminiscence of the author-narrator in his autobiographies - Childhood and Memórias do cárcere. Two of these books were chosen as corpus of our dissertation: Anguish and Childhood. In this manner, there are differences, between them, regarding literary forms - novel and autobiography - that, consecutively, bring on dissimilar ways of analysing them. The objective of our research is to investigate how is configured this rememorative effort in these works concerning, mainly, the mediation between literature and society that can be textually verified in these narratives. Literature, can make us immerse in a certain History, because its form/content presents itself as symptoms of a certain period in which writers cannot alienate themselves completely; thus, the social tensions are represented in the narrative in different grades. Thesis (M.A. (African Languages)) -- University of Limpopo, 2013 / This research focuses on the analysis of poems on the portrayal of women by the two Xitsonga poets: Magaisa, J.M., Mihloti and Xikolokolo Nguvu, ya Pitori and Marhanele, M.M. Vumunhu bya Phatiwa and Swifaniso swa Vutomi. The main focus will be on the influence of Xitsonga culture on their portrayal of women, basing the argument on what the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa of 1996 says. In Chapter 1, there is a problem statement, aims of the study, rationale for the study, the significance of the study, the methodology, referring to the collection of data, where there is a primary and secondary research methods, scope and delimitation of the study and the literature review. The focus on Chapter 2 is on the explanation of what culture is, that each culture has the good and the bad in it, no culture is static. Chapter 3 focuses on the techniques employed by the poets in their portrayal of women. The focus in Chapter 4 is on the functions of poetry, basing on different eras, that is, the apartheid and democratic South Africa. The analysis of the selected poems will be dealt with in Chapter 5, divided into the married and the unmarried women. Chapter 6 focuses on places where women are discriminated against. Chapter 7 is a conclusion of the dissertation, and also look at what can be done to alleviate this discrimination.

This paper will study realism in young adult literature, focusing specifically on those books in which young adults accept parenting roles. First, professional literature about realism will be reviewed from a· historical perspective, then criteria for realism will be examined. New criteria will be synthesized and applied to six novels. An annotated bibliography of novels in which young adults accept parenting roles will be presented.
