Esta dissertação aborda a teatralidade da palavra poética em Paranoia, primeiro livro de poemas de Roberto Piva, publicado no início dos anos 1960. Não se trata de poesia dramática, mas de poemas endereçados a uma assistência, operando nos limites entre Lírica e Épica, poesia e prosa oratória. A teatralidade do orador-declamador frente a um auditório está inscrita no texto, através de recursos como apóstrofes, anáforas, enumerações, o uso de paralelismos linguísticos, narrativas de forte teor imagético, efeitos de amplificação, paradoxos. Os poemas configuram-se, em grande parte, como caminhadas e reflexões de um sujeito lírico pela metrópole paulistana em meados do século XX, reconstituídas em chave onírica, sob o pathos da paranoia. Este sujeito é acometido por visões, que compõe um painel de acento épico de seu lugar e seu tempo, através da reelaboração de tópicos barrocos como o mundo como teatro, o mundo como labirinto, o mundo como sonho e a loucura do mundo. / This dissertation approaches the theatricality of the poetic word in Paranoia, the first poetry book by Roberto Piva, published in the beginnings of the sixties on the XX century. It´s not about dramatic poetry, but poems adressed to an audience, dealing with the borders of Lyric and Epic, poetry and oratory prose. The theatricality of the public orator-declaimer in front of an audience is inscribed in the text, using resources like apostrophe, anaphora, enumeration, linguistic parallelism, narrative of strong imagetic content, amplification effect, paradox. The poems are shaped, mostly, as walks and meditations of a lyric subject on the metropolis of São Paulo city in the middle of the XX century, reconstructed on a onirical key, under the pathos of paranoia. This subject is assaulted by visions, which compose a pannel of epic content about his place and his time, through the reworking of baroque style topics, such as world as theatre, world as labyrinth, world as dream, and world\'s madness.

Ao longo do século XX, houve um aumento significativo da importação de teorias anglo-americanas na crítica literária brasileira, nem sempre correspondendo a uma demanda interna. Uma das consequências desse processo foi o afastamento progressivo entre parte da pesquisa acadêmica e os recursos teóricos e metodológicos utilizados para o ensino da literatura na educação básica. Este trabalho trata de um momento importante desse fenômeno: a importação do New Criticism feita por Afrânio Coutinho. O objetivo é demonstrar como este caso pode ser interpretado como a primeira fase de um processo de abstração teórica que hoje está naturalizado no estudo da literatura nas universidades brasileiras. / Throughout the twentieth century, there was a significant increase in the import of Anglo-American theories in Brazilian literary criticism, not always corresponding to a domestic demand. One consequence of this process was the gradual withdrawal from part of academic research and the theoretical and methodological resources used for teaching literature in elementary education. This work deals with an important moment of this phenomenon: the import of the New Criticism made by Afrânio Coutinho. The goal is to demonstrate how this case can be interpreted as the first step in a process of theoretical abstraction that is now naturalized in the study of literature in Brazilian universities.

As últimas décadas do século XIX foram marcadas por grandes transformações na sociedade brasileira. Além do fim da escravidão e da instauração do regime republicano, assistiu-se a um significativo crescimento das cidades, o que impactou o estilo de vida das classes instruídas e os valores herdados do sistema patriarcal. Em A musa de espartilho, o erotismo na poesia parnasiana brasileira é investigado em suas possíveis relações com seu contexto histórico-social, levando-se em conta as continuidades e descontinuidades com a sensibilidade romântica. Quatro poetas são estudados: Raimundo Correia, Alberto de Oliveira, Francisca Júlia e Luiz Delfino. / The last decades of the nineteenth century were marked by major changes in Brazilian society. In addition to the end of slavery and the establishment of the Republican regime, there has been a significant growth of cities, which impacted the lifestyle of the educated classes and the inherited values from the patriarchal system. In A musa de espartilho (The muse wearing a corset), the eroticism in Brazilian Parnassian poetry is investigated in its possible relations to its historical and social contexts, taking into account the continuities and discontinuities with the romantic sensitivity. Four poets are studied: Raimundo Correia, Alberto de Oliveira, Francisca Julia and Luiz Delfino.

Este trabalho pretende analisar o romance João Ternura, de Aníbal Machado, do ponto de vista das contradições entre os projetos ideológicos do primeiro Modernismo e os problemas trazidos pelo processo histórico nacional. No momento em que inicia a escrita de seu único romance, em 1926, Aníbal Machado partilha dos objetivos libertários e dos pressupostos ideológicos que animavam a vanguarda artística brasileira. Como, no entanto, o romance continua a ser escrito até 1964, é possível ver no movimento de sua forma um embate entre matéria narrativa e dinâmica histórica da nação. Tal conflito acaba por fazer com que protagonista e obra entrem em um processo de dissolução que os condena a subsistirem parcialmente inconclusos. A análise de João Ternura traz à tona uma reflexão sobre as possibilidades de constituição do Brasil como nação autônoma e independente / This work aims to analyze the novel João Ternura, by Aníbal Machado, in relation to the contradictions between the ideological project of early Brazilian Modernism and the problems of the national historical process. When he starts writing his only novel, in 1926, Aníbal Machado shares the libertarian goals and ideological assumptions of the Brazilian artistic avant-garde. However, as the novel continues to be written until 1964, the year of the military coup, its very form and style document the collision between the narrative material and the national historical process around it. These conflicts culminate in a process of dissolution that condemn both the novel and its protagonist to a state of inconclusiveness. Analyzing João Ternura brings to light reflections on the possibilities of Brazilian formation as an autonomous and independent nation

In this thesis, I discuss a group of compositionally related 'core' chapters within the Yi Zhou shu, a collection of 59 texts from ancient China that has received very limited attention in scholarship. The texts in this collection are difficult to read and interpret because of their poor preservation and the lack of concise commentaries. I develop a methodological strategy for the identification of philologically related texts within the collection, which allows me to single out a group of texts related by compositional structures, rhetorical patterns and characteristic formulaic expressions. I call such chapters 'kingly consultations', considering that most of such texts are presented as speeches involving sage rulers of the Western Zhou (mid. 11th century - 771 BC), in which they share the fundamental wisdoms of kingship. I argue that these texts are remnants of an important ritualised textual practice, which has left traces not only in the Yi Zhou shu, but also in other collections, such as the Liu tao (Six Bow Cases), which is commonly classified among 'military' texts. I reconstruct elements of the socio-political context of the kingly consultations using comparative insight. I examine the numerical lists used for systematisation of knowledge against similar lists in the Pali canon. I also explain the significance of the expressions that emphasise the secretive transmission of texts against better known esoteric textual communities in China and Japan. Such comparison allows me to preliminarily identify the communities behind the kingly consultations as based on strict knowledge-based hierarchy, but prone to segmentation. Finally, I position the kingly consultations within the broader context of the practice of treasure texts. This practice is an important development in ancient China that led to the emergence of a new type of textual authority by 'detaching' earlier epigraphic texts from their precious material carriers and introducing them into novel environment of manuscript culture.
