Towards Efficient Road Transport in Logistics Operations : A Case Study of IKEA ChinaDong, Zhu, Haoqi, Zhou January 2010 (has links)
Purpose- The purpose of this research is to explore the role of road transport in logistics operations, and to investigate and analyze how IKEA China does operate on road transport in logistics operations. Design/methodology/approach- A single case study has been conducted at IKEA China, including semi-structured interviews and review of internal documents. Along with the case study, literature reviews have been conducted within the areas of efficient road transport in logistics operations. Findings- The IKEA China case suggests that the logistics operations should have strong link to the efficient road transport in a manner optimized logistics operations can provide efficient road transport with less cost. Research limitations/implications- This thesis is limited to one representative company, and the authors just focus on a study of efficient road transport in logistics operations for narrowing down the thesis. So the solutions and proposals about efficient road transport might not be adopted by other companies or be applied to other parts of the supply chain. Additionally, a study of efficient road transport can be discussed, analyzed and studied from a lot of different perspectives, even much better in a holistic viewpoint. Here, the authors just choose a few primary perspectives as research objectives to support this study, which concerns the data and information collected from IKEA China. Finally, because of the limitation of time and personal knowledge, the data collected from IKEA China may neither abundant enough nor deep enough in a manner without exploiting and expanding into all the issues and challenges refers to efficient road transport in logistics operations. Practical implication- This research provides suitable solutions for a company towards efficient road transport in logistics operations. Consequently, it will facilitate companies to achieve the purpose of efficient road transport by optimizing their logistics operations in a manner improve the outcomes of insouring/outsourcing, merge-in-transit, consolidation point and packaging. Originality/value- This research combines five theoretical fields in terms of sourcing strategy, merge-in-transit, consolidation point, packaging as well as economics scale of trucking cost to contribute proposals to efficient road transport in logistics operations. Keywords Efficient road transport, Logistics operations, cost

Previous issue date: 2015-03-12 / This paper is about the analysis of the soybean production chain in the state of
Goias, with emphasis on logistics operations. Was made using descriptive statistics
and analysis methods. Through the construction and observation State of Goias
maps, highlighting the soybean production and logistics operation means. The data
for the preparation of the study were collected from the governmental and nongovernmental
agencies. Then underwent statistical methods through simple linear
regression and multivariate statistics for modeling chain. Through analysis both
descriptive, as statistics, we found production growth over the years, the productivity
and the increase in planted areas. Growth analysis was made of the capacity of the
stores static over the years. With the analysis results, it was possible made out the
forecast production chain behavior and its relationship with the logistics operations
for years to come. Came to the conclusion that soybean production growth rate is
higher than the growth of the static capacity of the warehouses. Soy is transported
primarily through road transport, rail transport is not used for soy transport, which
increases transportation costs. The job then becomes suggestion for future
investments in logistics infrastructure in the State of Goias, as the forecasts made by
the analysis justifying the need for investment to reduce logistics costs the soy
production chain.

Background: COVID-19 pandemic had a vast and significant impact on today’s societies, in terms of economic, societal, and even environmental aspects. Global supply chains had to adapt to this changing landscape rapidly. Both supply and demand witnessed repercussions. The effects of COVID-19 on supply chains have been evident, with lockdowns and inconsistent supply and demand causing issues for international trade. Indeed, many companies were constrained to stop supply and production and could not deliver their goods. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on transportation operations in logistics companies, more precisely by using the case of DHL to emphasize our study. The purpose is to analyze the impacts that the crisis had on Logistics operations, by focusing on DHL and the way the company was impacted, understood and overcame the disruption. This study will take into consideration economic, social and environmental aspects. Method: The research will be based on a case study and empirical evidence to provide a comprehensive understanding of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on DHL’s supply chain operations and more precisely on logistics and transport. We used the Triple Bottom Line approach to measure the economic, social, and environmental performances of DHL. Further, the analysis used in this paper is an inductive thematic analysis, to emphasize the findings and provide a better accuracy to our results. Results: The study aims to identify the effects that COVID-19 had on logistics operations, and it more particularly seeks to highlight the strategies used by logistics companies that could be useful for other companies that need to build more resilient and flexible supply chains in the face of future disruptions. The findings of this thesis will be valuable to businesses, supply chain managers, and policymakers seeking to understand the role of improving their supply chains. 電子業全球運籌風險管理之研究 / ON GLOBAL LOGISTICS OPERATIONS RISK MANAGEMENT FOR THE ELECTRONICS INDUSTRY陳宗欽 Unknown Date (has links)
This paper intends to present prudent solutions of risk management for global logistics operations for the electronics industry from a Taiwan based company perspective. The competitive strengths and sustainable development of global logistics operations have become a core value and competence for the Taiwan electronics industry.
The whole logistics operations are vulnerable. One event or incident can hinder business continuity and even wipe a company out of the market. Risks are more unpredictable and uncontrollable in the global logistics operations than in other operations as most of the process is under a third party’s care, control and custody.
In light of the nature of this risk, companies should focus more on it and endeavor to implement solutions to deal with it. There are many papers and articles dealing with risk management or with global logistics operations, but very few of them link the two.
This paper will contribute to the Taiwan electronics industry with ideas to support continued growth and competitiveness. And we hope that academic groups or organizations will find this paper of interest in their research.

Previous issue date: 2007-06-28 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / Addressees the systematization of logistical and commercial aspects of
São Paulo s sugar exports through Santos Port facilities. Local political and economical
liberal transformations that took place by the beginning of 90 s had seen Estate
assets being given to private investments (both in agricultural and port operations). As a
result, this new institutional environment allowed the occurrence of hybrids corporate
structures to coordinate logistical sugar and alcohol-ethanol exports from inland
facilities to the Santos port. The main question is how this adaptation interferes on infrastructural
and operational logistics management derived from new transactions within
international sugar mayor traders. The main units of analysis are: i) São Paulo s state
sugar producers (industrial plants) and port logistics providers; ii) port logistics
providers and food trading companies. Results shall foster the comprehension on
logistical process and relations amongst the three main actors across the sugar plantsport
facilities chain. There are three goals to be achieved: i) identify the total extent of
logistical domain across sugar s distributional channels via port of Santos; ii) how
logistical assets and processes are developed or provided within those actors; iii)
describe the difference among Santos port operations service providers, in relation
value-added competitive basis. Theoretical framework blends logistics and supply chain
management with foreign trade prospects as a guideline to collect data and empirical
evidences. This works object is the São Paulo sugar plants-port of Santos facilities
logistics chain.
A problemática desta
seguintes pares: i) terminais portuários açucareiros e a indústria sucroalcooleira paulista;

The Impact of E-Commerce on Parcel Shipping Operators in The EU and The USMuralidharan, Rohit January 2018 (has links)
Parcel carriers are susceptible to changes in the supply chain industry, as the carrier industry consists of many stakeholders who have an impact on the way they function. The stakeholders in the carrier industry are directly affected by the market trends that in turn affect the carrier business. Currently, E-commerce has a major influence on supply chain design, the operation of parcel carriers and the consumers. One main area of this thesis study is to analyse the impact of E-commerce on the parcel carriers in the EU and the US. Over time, E-commerce has caused a shift in the logistics industry that has made the carriers update the solutions they provide to their customers and to update their operations to accommodate the changes brought about by E-commerce. Since the operations of carriers in the EU and the US are different, this study focusses on five major parameters (Segmentation, Networks, Services, Specification and Tariff Structure) that help understand the carriers better in these two regions. This study will also help European Logistics Software Providers to re-organise themselves so it may help them to perform better integration processes between the carrier and their customers. It is evident that E-commerce has affected the parcel carrier industry and that the Logistics Software Providers must consider these parameters to have harmonized collaboration between the stakeholders in the supply chain. It is also difficult to normalize the selection of factors to be considered in the selection of a parcel carrier since the factors have a different effect in different regions around the world.

AI implementation in inbound logistics operations at large-scale manufacturing companies in Sweden : - Implementation levels and challengesIsholt, Carl, Mosleh, Mohammad January 2021 (has links)
Purpose of the thesis This study aims to propose an AI maturity model in order to be able to evaluate to whatextent large-scale manufacturing companies utilize AI in their inbound logistical operationsand also to reveal the challenges related to the implementation of AI. Methodology This study employs a qualitative research method with the use of a survey conducted on 10companies within 5 industries. Additionally, semi-structured interviews were employed attwo out of these 10 companies. Theoretical framework The theoretical framework provides a deeper theoretical understanding of inbound logisticsoperations, AI implementations and their suggested operationalization in inbound logisticsoperations at large-scale manufacturers. Further, it also provides theory of the challengesassociated with implementing AI in inbound logistics operations. Empirical data The empirical section illustrates the data that were collected through survey and interviewstudy. First, data is presented based on the respondents' various industries that are grouped.Within each grouped industry, data is structured according to the various RQ’s and proposedframeworks, meaning that data will be related to the different levels of AI implementation, maturity levels as well as challenges. Analysis and discussion In this section, the industries are analysed and discussed with the help of the theoreticalframework and collected empirical data. This was first established with an individual analysisof industries where one research question is covered at a time. After this is done, across-analysis is carried out on the involved industries in relation to the research questions. Conclusion This chapter gives a concluding discussion and presents theoretical and practicalcontributions. The main results of the three research questions are highlighted. Finally, further research opportunities and limitations are discussed.
