Comprehensive Model-Based Design and Analysis Approach for Thermal Management Systems in Hybridized Vehicles

January 2017 (has links)
abstract: This research effort focuses on thermal management system (TMS) design for a high-performance, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). The thermal performance for various components in an electrified powertrain is investigated using a 3D finite difference model for a complete vehicle system, including inherently temperature-sensitive components. The components include the electric motor (EM), power electronics, Energy Storage System (ESS), and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). A model-based design approach is utilized, where a combination of experimental work and simulation are integrated. After defining heat sources and heat sinks within the power train system, temporal and spatial boundary conditions were extracted experimentally to facilitate the 3D simulation under different road-load scenarios. Material properties, surface conditions, and environmental factors were defined for the geometrical surface mesh representation of the system. Meanwhile the finite differencing code handles the heat transfer phenomena via conduction and radiation, all convective heat transfer mode within the powertrain are defined using fluid nodes and fluid streams within the powertrain. Conclusions are drawn through correlating experimental results to the outcome from the thermal model. The outcome from this research effort is a 3D thermal performance predictive tool that can be utilized in order to evaluate the design of advanced thermal management systems (TMSs) for alternative powertrains in early design/concept stages of the development process. For future work, it is recommended that a full validation of the 3D thermal model be completed. Subsequently, design improvements can be made to the TMS. Some possible improvements include analysis and evaluation of shielding of the catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, and power electronics, as well as substituting for material with better thermal performance in other temperature-sensitive components, where applicable. The result of this improvement in design would be achieving an effective TMS for a high-performance PHEV. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Engineering 2017

On the Highlighting of Non-Functional Test Data : A Multidimensional Approach for Database Deployment

Brahimi, Lahcene 03 July 2017 (has links)
Choosing appropriate database management systems (DBMS) and/or execution platforms for given database (DB) is complex and tends to be time- and effort-intensive since this choice has an important impact on the satisfaction of non-functional requirements (e.g., temporal performance or energy consumption). lndeed, a large number of tests have been performed for assessing the quality of developed DB. This assessment often involves metrics associated with non-functional requirement. That leads to a mine of tests covering all life-cycle phases of the DB's design. Tests and their environments are usually published in scientific articles or specific websites such as Transaction Processing Council (TPC). Therefore, this thesis bas taken a special interest to the capitalization and the reutilization of performed tests to reduce and mastery the complexity of the DBMS/platforms selection process. By analyzing the test accurately, we identify that tests concem: the data set, the execution platform, the addressed non-functional requirements, the used queries, etc. Thus, we propose an approach of conceptualization and persistence of all dimensions as well as the results of tests. Conseguently, this thesis leads to the following contributions. (1) The design model based on descriptive, prescriptive and ontological concepts to raise the different dimensions. (2) The development of a multidimensional repository to store the test environments and their results. (3) The development of a decision making methodology based on a recommender system for DBMS and platforms selection.

Educator experiences and perceptions of the Integrated Quality Management System and its effect on educator professional development in schools

Mahlaela, Mphuphuthane Abram 28 May 2012 (has links)
The implementation of the Integrated Quality Management System (IQMS) is analysed with interest in its effect on professional development of the teaching staff. This analysis is done through the experiences and perceptions of educators who are involved in this process. IQMS is a national policy of appraising and developing the teaching staff and was formed after an agreement was reached between the South African Department of Education and the teacher organizations in 2003. It was scheduled to be implemented in 2004. This article determines teacher appraisal processes on an international level and how similar appraisal processes are applied in South African context and then determines how educators in the South African context experience and perceive the effects of their appraisal process (IQMS) on their professional development. / Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Education Management and Policy Studies / unrestricted

Collaborative Communication Interruption Management System (C-CIMS): Modeling Interruption Timings via Prosodic and Topic Modelling for Human-Machine Teams

Peters, Nia S. 01 December 2017 (has links)
Human-machine teaming aims to meld human cognitive strengths and the unique capabilities of smart machines to create intelligent teams adaptive to rapidly changing circumstances. One major contributor to the problem of human-machine teaming is a lack of communication skills on the part of the machine. The primary objective of this research is focused on a machine’s interruption timings or when a machine should share and communicate information with human teammates within human-machine teaming interactions. Previous work addresses interruption timings from the perspective of single human, multitasking and multiple human, single task interactions. The primary aim of this dissertation is to augment this area by approaching the same problem from the perspective of a multiple human, multitasking interaction. The proposed machine is the Collaborative Communication Interruption Management System (C-CIMS) which is tasked with leveraging speech information from a human-human task and making inferences on when to interrupt with information related to an orthogonal human-machine task. This study and previous literature both suggest monitoring task boundaries and engagement as candidate moments of interruptibility within multiple human, multitasking interactions. The goal then becomes designing an intermediate step between human teammate communication and points of interruptibility within these interactions. The proposed intermediate step is the mapping of low-level speech information such as prosodic and lexical information onto higher constructs indicative of interruptibility. C-CIMS is composed of a Task Boundary Prosody Model, a Task Boundary Topic Model, and finally a Task Engagement Topic Model. Each of these components are evaluated separately in terms of how they perform within two different simulated human-machine teaming scenarios and the speed vs. accuracy tradeoffs as well as other limitations of each module. Overall the Task Boundary Prosody Model is tractable within a real-time system because of the low-latency in processing prosodic information, but is less accurate at predicting task boundaries even within human-machine interactions with simple dialogue. Conversely, the Task Boundary and Task Engagement Topic Models do well inferring task boundaries and engagement respectively, but are intractable in a real-time system because of the bottleneck in producing automatic speech recognition transcriptions to make interruption decisions. The overall contribution of this work is a novel approach to predicting interruptibility within human-machine teams by modeling higher constructs indicative of interruptibility using low-level speech information.

Řešení správy dokumentů ve firmě E-solutions, s.r.o. / Řešení správy dokumentů ve firmě E-solutions, s.r.o.

Švanda, Jan January 2008 (has links)
Presented thesis is focused to the document management system in the firm E-solutions, Ld. Selection of this firm is purposeful, because I have been working in the firm for several years. My thesis is targeted to the complex analysis of document management system (DMS) in the firm and the results of the analysis will be used for the implementation of new DMS. The target is accomplished by following steps, which can be expressed as partial concrete goals: First, the present situation of DMS in the firm is described, next, the detail description of the documents, the system should work with, is presented. Description of these documents is structured to the DMS needs. Subsequently firm processes which should DMS support are identified and analysed. These processes are converted to the optimal conditions to maximize their effectiveness in the DMS support. Integral part of the analysis is the consistent collection of the requirements to the new system. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes DMS generally, explains basic principles of DMS (characteristics, documentation and functionality) and creates base line for the practical part. The more comprehensive practical part of the thesis is directed to the document management in the firm E-solutions, Ld. Presentation of the basic information about the firm is followed by detail solution of partial goals. Assessment of the achieved results creates the final part of the work. The thesis will serve in the firm or at a contactor of DMS as the base for the selection, parameterisation and implementation of the concrete DMS solution.
