The Texas Master Gardener program: an assessment of curriculum delivery and contribution to community development

Mayfield, Chyrel Ann 12 April 2006 (has links)
Extension programs across the nation have been given the task of education and outreach to citizens of their respective states. Master Gardener programs have been seen as a way to provide horticultural education, while also providing outreach using the program’s service requirement. Extension professionals have used a variety of training methods throughout the years. These methods include face-to-face workshop trainings, interactive television, and more recently World Wide Web methodologies. This study sought to test the effectiveness of CD-based training materials versus a traditional face-to-face training. Turfgrass management modules chosen for testing in this study included nutrient, water, and pest topics. Participants’ knowledge levels were measured using a pre-test/post-test design. Student satisfaction with the learning materials and their perceptions of lawn care also were measured during the study. Results indicated that CD-based materials were more effective than were face-to- face workshops for teaching difficult turfgrass material to the Master Gardener trainees. Community development is one of the four focus areas for Texas Cooperative Extension. A secondary purpose was to determine if the Master Gardener program affected community development. Descriptive statistics were used to compare participants’ past experiences with their anticipated experiences after completion of the Master Gardener program. Results indicated that community development activities were being completed, but the extent and type of development could not be measured. This study revealed several surprising and far-reaching implications for extension programming. These implications and recommendations for improvement of extension programs are discussed further. Recommendations for additional research also are included.

This paper deals with the research study of the impact that advertising makes on consumers’ behaviour and the selected methodology for the research of the impact of advertising on consumers’ behaviour that was adapted on practical level providing it with the investigation and interpretation of the corresponding research results. The paper includes the analysis of theoretical impact of advertising on consumers’ behaviour, investigation of the clients’ that order an advertising campaign, viewpoint on the importance of advertising, conclusions and proposals. While conducting this survey, a standardized interview was used, five employees were interviewed by asking them the same questions, that were prepared in advance, about the viewpoints of the clients that order an advertising campaign towards the necessity and importance of advertising and the sum of money budgeted for it. In pursuance of the second research, a survey of the consumers of Šiauliai town and region has been conducted giving them questionnaires in order to sort out the impact of advertising on them. 240... Therapists who practice mindfulness meditation : implications for therapy

Alvarez de Lorenzana, John W. 11 1900 (has links)
In the past decade the healing potential of mindfulness and its practice has gained widespread recognition across various health disciplines and institutions, especially mental health. Past and current research on mindfulness interventions have focused almost exclusively on the beneficial effects for clients. However, there is a serious shortage of research on how mindfulness practice influences therapists and their work. The current study looked specifically at how the influence of mindfulness meditation (MM) was experienced by therapists in the context of their work. An interpretive description methodology was used to guide the research process. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with six therapists who practiced MM regularly. A thematic analysis of interview transcripts highlighted commonalities and differences among participants’ perceptions of the influence of MM on their work. Eleven themes emerged from the data analysis. Thematic findings were considered in relation to key issues in psychotherapy, master therapist traits and other contemporary qualitative research addressing the influence of MM on practitioners. The results are discussed with an emphasis on the practical implications for future research, therapist training and clinical practice.

Fallen and Changed: Tracing the Biblical-Mythological Origins of Mikhail Bulgakov's Azazello and Korov'ev

Mason, Elliot January 2010 (has links)
In his analysis of Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita, Elliot Mason explores the biblical and mythological ancestry of two of the novel’s most under-studied demonic characters: Azazello and Korov′ev-Fagot. Both characters, it is argued, serve important thematic roles within The Master and Margarita, acting as symbols of the oppressed artist, creativity and judgement. Azazello and Korov′ev-Fagot are integral to an eschatological reading of the text, with Korov′ev in particular suggesting new areas of Faustian influence within The Master and Margarita. Azazello’s relevance to the novel is discussed in terms of his relationship with another of Bulgakov’s characters: the demon Abaddon. Through an examination of the biblical, literary and mythological development of the myth of the Azazel-figure throughout history, Mason argues a thematic, and perhaps even more tangible, connection between the two characters. In the context of Bulgakov’s novel, it is argued, Azazello and Abaddon are interrelated, and it is this relationship that sheds new light on the thematic importance of either character to The Master and Margarita. An examination of older, non-canonical biblical texts allows the connection between Azazel and Abaddon to be explored and applied to Bulgakov’s novel. It is argued that Bulgakov himself, upon reading the texts studied, came to many of the same conclusions, and that these conclusions resulted in the connectedness of Azazello and Abaddon within The Master and Margarita. The second chapter of Mason’s study is devoted to tracing the heritage of the character, Kovo′ev-Fagot. A number of references and clues within The Master and Margarita are suggestive of the fact that Bulgakov had a particular literary, mythological or contemporary figure in mind when he created the character. Despite these references, Bulgakovian scholars have so far been unable to identify precisely whom Bulgakov was drawing on as inspiration for Korov′ev. Using the information provided by The Master and Margarita, Mason argues for a reading of Korov′ev-Fagot as the biblical, mythological sea-beast, Leviathan. He further links the character with Mephistopheles, finding a connection between Leviathan and Mephistopheles in a lesser-known version of the Faust legend, which replaces the name of one with the other. An overview of Leviathan’s eschatological and thematic functions, as well as his relationship with Egyptian and Norse chaos serpents, is used in order to provide the demonological background of the figure to a potentially non-specialist audience. The themes explored in this section of the argument are then applied to The Master and Margarita itself, in order to better understand the intended role of Korov′ev-Fagot to Bulgakov’s work. The identification of Korov′ev-Fagot with Leviathan and Mephistopheles, as well as that of Azazello with Abaddon, serves as a foundation of information, compiled in order that future interpretations may hopefully draw from it.

The effect of supply and demand on management education :

Schmidt, Michael. Unknown Date (has links)
In this study what is being offered to MBA candidates is investigated, and within the context of supply and demand, the provision of instruction in the topic of 'business closure', to MBA students, is examined. This paper reports on the results from an extensive, broad based, international survey of MBA curricula. Through frequency of expression, topics regarded as either important or popular enough to be taught were identified. / This survey establishes a benchmark for MBA curricular content and enables comment on the relevance of some popular ranking systems used by stakeholders e.g. intending students and employers, to assess the potential value of the MBA course. Misconceptions, concerning course content and potential value are discussed. / It is suggested that an internationally cooperative, consistent and relevant approach to the skill sets that are taught to MBA students would benefit stakeholders to better select the MBA course that is best suited to their aspirations or requirements. / Further, such an approach would also benefit the ability of regulatory and interested parties in assessing, ranking and improving the quality of an MBA education. This could lead to less controversy concerning the contemporary value and relevance of the MBA degree. / Thesis (DBA(DoctorateofBusinessAdministration))--University of South Australia, 2007.
