The living standards measure as a market segmentation tool for selected retailers / by Nedia de Jager

De Jager, Nedia January 2004 (has links)
Businesses have realised that they cannot appeal to all consumers in the marketplace. Consumers are too numerous, geographically wide-spread, and too varied in their needs and buying practices. Furthermore, the business& themselves vary widely in their abilities to serve different segments of the market. Businesses consequently conduct market segmentation to identify the parts of the market that it can best serve and most profitably. Therefore, the goal of this study was to determine the actual target markets of selected retailers by means of the Living Standards Measure (LSM) tool, and to recommend improved marketing strategies based on the Media Groups Measure (MGM) tool. The objectives of the study were to describe market segmentation by emphasising its importance and discussing the market segmentation process. Further objectives include explaining the application of the LSM- and MGM-tools in identifying target markets and selecting media to reach these target markets, and to conduct an empirical investigation on the application of the LSM tool for the selected retailers. A market segmentation strategy concentrates the business' marketing efforts on consumers who have a similar interest in the business' values. Therefore, market segmentation enables the business to identify consumer needs more accurately. The aforementioned assists the business in creating a basis for developing products to satisfy consumer needs. The basis is developed by the identification of the attributes that are of value to consumers. Market segmentation furthermore assists in the development of an effective marketing mix, tailored to the business' strategy and objectives. A proper marketing mix can determine the promotional appeal, media choices, and the prices consumers are willing to pay. The LSM and MGM are only two of the variety of segmentation tools that can be used to segment a heterogeneous market. The LSM is a relatively new and unknown instrument - in comparison with other segmentation tools - and was specifically developed for the South African market. It is furthermore a multivariate segmentation tool, consisting of 29 household variables, which excludes discriminators such as race and income. The MGM-tool is used to obtain media consumption information on market segments. Its primary function is to assist businesses in selecting media that are most effective in reaching their target markets. The most important conclusions of this study are that the current target markets of Shoprite Checkers and Pick 'n Pay in Potchefstroom differs from their actual target markets. Gender and age do not differentiate shoppers significantly, and although race and income are not included as differentiators in the LSM index, these two variables correlate strongly with the various LSM-groups. Some of the most important recommendations include: The headquarters of both retailers should consider developing differentiated marketing strategies for stores in different locations. Shoprite Checkers and Pick 'n Pay (in Potchefstroom) should both target SU-LSM groups 6 to 10. Both retailers should adapt their marketing efforts in order to provide for the local market in Potchefstroom. The recommendations will enable the retailers to enhance their business and marketing efforts, and accordingly satisfy the needs of their customers. / Thesis (M.Com. Specialiosios kardomosios priemonės Lietuvos ir užsienio valstybių baudžiamuosiuose procesuose / Special pre-trial measures in Lithuania and foreign countries criminal proceedings

Krivickienė, Rita 24 January 2012 (has links)
Their main distinguishing feature is that they do not apply to any, but only the special features of having a specific subject. Design of Station for Calculating Centre of Gravity of Truck Cabin : A Product Design Project

Bendapudi, Srinivas, Patchai Mayil Murugan, Shiva Kumar January 2018 (has links)
As a part of Linköping University’s master program course curriculum, current thesis is performed at Tools and fixtures department (MPCT) of Scania, Oskarshamn. The aim of this master thesis project is to develop a complete construction of the station in CAD which calculates the weight and center of gravity of all the different cabs produced in Scania CV AB. To accomplish this project a generic product development process described in product development textbook by Ulrich and Eppinger (2012), fifth edition and The mechanical design by David G Ullman, fourth edition were extensively used. The whole function from a black box is decomposed into several sub functions and different solutions were identified for these individual functions. By using morphology matrix and proper combinations from these solutions five different concepts were developed and presented to Scania CV AB. The team along with technical design experts in the MPCT department evaluated all the concepts and one concept was chosen for further development. Protecting the weighing scales during loading of cab from forklift onto the station and safety for the cab during tilting are the two main challenges faced during detail design phase. We were able to achieve these operations by incorporating a lifting table into the station design. Thanks to the custom made multi-tasking lift table which is manufactured and supplied by HYMO. With the help of sensors, speed of the lifting table can be controlled with two operating speeds-High & Low. Lifting table moves in its lowest speed whenever it approaches the weighing scales. Incorporation of Jacob safety into the lifting table allows the table to always operate in low speed when the lift link is in action. These sensors ensure high safety for the cab and weighing scales. Apart from this, an emergency stop has been provided to stop the entire operation in case of emergencies. In this proposed design, the center of gravity values will be determined in two stages and the weight readings are recorded in computer during these stages. For determining the longitudinal and transverse distances of CG, weight readings from all the weighing scales is essential once the cab is loaded on the station from the forklift. For determining the vertical distance of CG, two weight readings and measured tilt angle is required. A calculation module will allow the user to enter these values and obtain the result in no time. This developed 3-D CAD model with 2-D drawings are presented to Scania and the obtained results of this work fulfilled the set of requirements set for this master thesis.

The relationship between dispositional employability and career success of human resources management practitioners

Botha, Karien 15 May 2012 (has links)
Dispositional Employability and Career Success are constructs that when brought together leads to a multitude of questions regarding their meaning. This study attempted to determine whether there is a significant relationship between the two constructs of dispositional employability and career success. The study furthermore focused on expanding on the literature by elaborating on the sample group. This was done by determining whether or not there is a difference between the groups with regards to their Dispositional Employability and Career Success based on their individual characteristics. A quantitative research approach was followed to obtain the research objectives of this study. The Dispositional Employability Measure and Career Success Orientation Measure were administered among a purposive convenience sample of HRM Practitioners in South Africa (N=155). The results of the research showed that there is a significant relationship between Dispositional Employability and Career Success with a low effect. Furthermore significant differences exist between groups with regards to both Dispositional Employability on the ground of number of years in their current organisation and Career Success on level of education, age, race and job level. The study thus contributes to the limited literature on both constructs. In addition, the results of the study make important theoretical, methodological and practical contributions. Recommendations for future research are made. / Dissertation (MCom)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / Human Resource Management / unrestricted
