The idea for this study paper originated from the following hyppothesis: the oriented feminine press works as one of the most sophisticated and complex instrument of the media helping to perpetuate values and atitudes and interfering in its meanings in our community. Triyng to answer the questions: How the discourse of gender in magazines for women works? And how are they produced? What type of discourses are in disagreement? Which "voices" are hidden? Which meanings can be noted by the interlocutor? I developed the following hyppothesis: the discourses of gender in magazines for women are supported by multiple and contraditory subjects, which bring forth tensions between the actual discourse and the discourse that they wish to change. I worked with the conceptual and epistemologic frame of the Discourse Analysis of the French School (from now on AD) allied to the Polyphonic Theory of the Enunciation, of Ducrot, as descriptive instruments, which emphasizes the crucial notions of the discourse as subject, meaning, heterogeinety/polyphony. I analised enunciations in articles, addvertisement and letters from readers in CLAUDIA Magazine, from 1991 to 1998. I could observe that the discourses of gender supported by the institutional subjects do not change the "status quo", on the contrary, they maintain the established, for they reflect the conceptions of gender internalized by men and women. I noticed, also, that the meanings are construed in the space between enunciation positions adopted by the subjects who are speakers, the subjects who are enunciative speakers and, principally, subjects who are interlocutors. In the practice of the daily ideology, the interlocutors are surrounded by those discourses that can lead them to reproduce or transform the discourses, since they are also possessors of plural subjectivity / Mestrado / Mestre em Linguística

Vem är kvinnan i ELLE? : En kvantitativ studie av hur kvinnan framställs i ELLE Sverige (2013).Ohlson, Elin, Sjögren, Alexandra January 2015 (has links)
Who is the most typical woman in ELLE Sweden (2013)? In this study we investigated the typical woman represented in the Swedish fashion magazine ELLE (2013) for women. Does a typical woman exist in the magazine at all and if so – in what words and roles is she described in? How is this woman perceived in relation to the male gender? Based on the theory of constructionism; that the gender (i.e. What is female versus male) is constructed in the society and that media has an affect on our physical and psychological well being as well as our behavior and thoughts, the investigation of the female gender representation in women magazines, was of great importance to us. As our instrument in this study we used a quantitative content analysis in the purpose of gathering information from 24 reportages (12 issues of ELLE Sweden 2013) where 27 female celebrities in total were interviewed. According to our final results there is a very clear and typical representation of the woman in ELLE Sweden. Among other things she is a successful, white, western, career woman in the entertainment- or fashion industry who is ”beautiful” with blonde hair, lives in the city and admirers the opposite sex.

Vývoj témat ve vybraných českých ženských a lifestylových časopisech v letech 1918-2018 / The development of topics in selected Czech women's and lifestyle periodicals in 1918-2018Gsöllhoferová, Markéta January 2022 (has links)
The diploma thesis Development of topics in selected Czech women's and lifestyle magazines in the years 1918-2018 brings a unique research of a century-old development of selected contents from magazines for women. The introductory chapter states the theoretical framework of media research and its effects and explains the methodology of the research. As its basic platform, it uses the history of the republic, which at first divides into several separate stages bounded by the so-called "eight years" (1918, 1938, 1948, 1968, 1988-89, 2008 and 2018), in which it introduces selected key events of these years. The individual historical parts are followed by a presentation of the influences of these historical milestones on the work and function of the media and the development of emancipation and everyday life of women. It concludes each historical chapter with an analysis of the structure of topics published in the magazines Ženský svět (Women's World) from 1908-1928, Eva (Catholic review) from 1918, Eva (magazine of modern or educated women) from 1928 and 1938, Hvězda československých paní a dívek (Star of Czechoslovak ladies and girls) from 1928 and 1938, Vlasta from 1948 to 2018 and Žena a život (Woman and Life) from 1998-2018. In the context of the entire period under review, in addition to the...
