Förstelärarens uppdrag : En jämförelse mellan teori och praktik

Staten genomförde 2013 en reform inomskolans värld,vilket gjorde det möjligt för skickliga lärare att göra karriär inom yrket utan att lämna undervisningen. Uppsatsens syfte är att ta reda på vad förstelärarnas uppfattning om denna reform och hur väl denna uppfattning stämmer överens med statens direktiv. Jag har valt att genomföra min studie genom en innehållsanalys avstatliga dokument och frågeformulär jag skickat till praktiserande förstelärare. Resultatet av undersökningen visade att förstelärarna var förtrogna med de krav som staten ställer på dem,men uppfattningen var delad mellan demsom tyckte att reformeninte gett dem andra eller utökade arbetsuppgifter och demsom ansåg att reformen gett dem mer ansvar. Det visar även att förstelärarna själva vill ha högre krav på demsom får ansöka om och utses till förstelärare än vad staten har gett direktiv om.

"This is Not Just a Job": Tensions in Addressing Trauma in the Neo-Liberal Context

Front-line service-providers are finding it challenging to address trauma-related issues within the confines of a shrinking neo-liberal environment. With larger case loads and increased focus on time and efficiency measures, front-line staff have less time available to address the more ambiguous aspects of practice, including trauma. To explore the challenges front-line staff face, a small qualitative study was conducted in which five service-providers took part. The study findings revealed that in working environments that have adopted managerial practices, the implications of 'quantity over quality' are experienced as frustrating and have various implications for the ways in which trauma is addressed. Participants in this study, expressed a deep investment in their working roles which generally has positive implications for service-users, however, the compounding results of a deep personal investment and a prescriptive case-management role may intensify the experience of working with trauma. Finally, while service-providers believe that trauma is something all service-users live with, there is a sense that the issue remains under-recognized in the mental health agency setting. This study suggests that increased trauma-focused education is essential for front-line workers, as is trauma-informed models of practice in the agency. Furthermore, there is a greater need for trauma advocacy and awareness as the issues remains stigmatized, even within the mental healthcare system. / Thesis / Master of Social Work (MSW)

Managing fragmentation : a case study of an area child protection committee in a time of change

One of the outstanding features of capitalist society is its fluidity. What is the orthodoxy today stands a very good chance of being supplanted by a new orthodoxy tomorrow. Similarly, today's problems have every chance of being tomorrow's solutions. Accordingly, individuals and organisations are often faced with situations, contexts and environments which are new and challenging and contain the potential to disrupt existing control structures. Essentially, this contention is at the heart of this piece of work. The following pages will describe and discuss the impact that a 'new orthodoxy' has had on an existing organisational arrangement. Specifically, the work focuses on the child protection system of England and Wales to examine the effect that New Public Management, and its accompanying tendency to fragment organisations into managerialised purchaser or provider units, has had on the established organisational discourse of partnershipworking. It argues that the central features of nianagerialism core tasks, ownership, audit and ideology run counter to those features required to facilitate partnerships co-operation, sharing and resources exchange. Moreover, it suggests that the inherent mis-match between these two prominent organisational discourses is acting as a barrier to the effective implementation of either.

This research enquiry examines the extent to which managerialism has permeated the headship role in England. It analyses the literature pertaining to the changing role of headship in England, managerialism, the marketization of education and the impact that these elements have had on the headship role in England, as well as the manner in which they have impacted upon schools in general. The study also explored England’s National College for School Leadership, its headship standards and its generic headship training. The research was conducted by way of semi-structured interviews with six headteachers, two of whom were new to headship, two of whom had more than five years of experience and two of whom were retired. The sample included a mix of state school and independent school headteachers. The data revealed a stark contrast between the professional experiences of state school headteachers and independent school headteachers. The state school headteachers cited pressures of governmental interference and also noted the pressures posed by the socioeconomic background of the given school’s intake. The headteachers also expressed feeling insecure from one day to the next and there was an overriding sense of confusion predominantly due to constant changes in government directives. By contrast, any impact on the independent school headteachers from government intervention and interference was demonstrably absent.

Zoning Regulations: A Locational Impediment to the Provision of Low-Income Housing Units in Hamilton

<p> The purpose of this paper is to determine whether zoning regulations constrain the builder in his or her ability to provide low-income housing units in Hamilton. It critically reviews five impediments to the provision of low-income housing and the application of urban managerialism to the low-income housing supply problem. An explanation of the degree to which the zoning revision process impedes large and small builders is given. An examination of three specific dimensions of zoning and the extent to which these dimensions constrain the builder follows. These dimensions are (i) inflexibility, (ii) the procedural and temporal framework and (iii) "full-up" zones. The analysis showed insufficient evidence existed to substantiate or falsify the hypothesis that zoning regulations impede the builder's ability to provide low-income housing units. </p> / Thesis / Bachelor of Arts (BA)

How Does Image Accompany Structure in Organizations? Exploring Professionalism and Managerialism in the Organizational Images of Swedish Hospitals

With the emergence of New Public Management in the 1980s, Western public sectors saw a gradual shift in logics of work control from professionalism to managerialism. For public sector organizations to attain legitimacy in this new climate, their organizational structures have been aligned according to extant societal expectations of managerialist efficiency. In addition to structure, organizations are also asked to have an organizational image that appeals to the same societal expectations if legitimacy is to be achieved. The pursuit of legitimacy is an aspect that connects image and structure but this has been neglected in previous research. Against this, the purpose of the present thesis is to explore whether and how changes in organizational image covariate positively with shifts in organizational structure. In order to investigate this, an organizational discourse analysis has been conducted on a sample of Swedish hospitals’ webpages in 2005 and 2013 as a way to learn more about the distribution of professionalism and managerialism in these entities’ images. The results indicate that the two logics of work control have increased between the studied years but managerialism displays a slightly bigger growth. Nevertheless, a blend of professionalism and managerialism is what is most apparent in the organizational images of the sampled hospitals in both 2005 and 2013. While previous literature has argued that organizational structures have shifted decisively towards managerialism, this thesis indicates that the change has been more nuanced when it comes to organizational images.
