¡Me Gusta Hip-Hop!: Evidence of Popular U.S. Culture Among Mexican Border Youth

Hawkins, Brian January 2006 (has links)
This paper examines a fragment of the evident cultural exthange occurring along the U.S. — Mexico border in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. Many Nogales youth are absorbing American popular culture through purchasing American popular culture commodities, such as music. The paper raises questions of how and why the Nogales youth purchase their pop culture commodities, and of the interpretations the Nogales youth make of said commodities' symbolic significance. After methodologies and context of the study are discussed, the paper defines popular culture and its relationship to commodity production. It then focuses on how the youth access their pop culture products and the factors that influence their buying decisions. At its end, the paper compares the interpretations of the Nogales youth with those of American youth in terms of pop culture goods.

In addition, it was concluded that the Paraguayan maquila shows itself as a tool capable of contributing to the economic and social development of such Nation, since in recent years it has been verified that Paraguay, due to the installation of the maquiladora industries, has revealed economic data Surprising ones such as the increase of its GDP / O presente trabalho tem como tema “A maquila no Paraguai: modelo produtivo e integração no início do século XXI”.

Going Against the Flow: Middle Class Families and Neoliberalism in Nogales, Sonora

Stone, Joanna January 2006 (has links)
Following decades of protectionism, in 1982 Mexico reacted to its foreign debt crisis by implementing extreme structural adjustment policies and it has continued a pattern of neoliberalism, increasingly opening its economy to international markets. The cumulative impacts of these policies have negatively affected the majority of the Mexican population, and researchers have documented the detrimental effects of neoliberal polices on working and middle classes in other contexts. Based on ethnographic research in Nogales, Sonora, this paper will describe a particular group of Mexicans who have nevertheless risen to middle class status throughout this time period. It will situate them within an industrializing border economy and will investigate some of the factors, both internal and external, that have contributed to their success in this endeavor. Finally, it will raise questions for future research, such as: Is this middle-class sustainable?

Guevara Ranjel, Eliany Jaqueline, Ortiz Cruz, Merli, Peña Quispe, Raquel, Zeña Aranda, Victor David 09 December 2020 (has links)
D´Quinua's main objective is to offer a product that contains a superfood - quinoa - as our star ingredient; what we offer is a healthy eating alternative. It is a presentation of quinoa in polenta, with different flavors, mainly sweet, having the following flavors: apple, chocolate, strawberry, apple, vanilla and natural. The design and production will be done through the "maquila" service, which will allow us to dedicate ourselves to promoting the benefits of our product. Our target audience corresponds to people who live in Metropolitan Lima and have the habit of eating quinoa within their normal diet, in any of its presentations, therefore, they have a healthy diet. Additionally, these people are from 26 to 45 years old and belong to the NSE "A" and "B". It is important to highlight that quinoa is a Peruvian grain considered a "superfood" due to the properties and benefits it brings to our body; In this sense, it is an ingredient that, in its polenta presentation, also offers the most commercial flavors on the market that will make it more attractive. Currently, the market offers various brands of quinoa in grain and also in polenta, but none with the diversity of flavors that we propose. Presentation that can be used in juices, refreshing drinks, desserts and cocktails; being able to prepare it instantly. Therefore, D´Quinua seeks to meet the need for a healthy diet quickly and with a variety of flavors to suit each palate. / Trabajo de investigación
