Study on the near-shore fishery resources and management-A case study on Tainan coast

Lin, Yuong-Shiu 22 April 2011 (has links)
This research includes investigations of the ocean water quality of Tainan, its contamination sources and examines its relations to the fishing industry. It also explores the connection between topographical changes and evolution of the Tainan fishing industry and by using relevant information of ocean weather, tidal waves, wind speed, wind direction, and typhoon to study its relatedness to the developments of the fishing industry. It will further look at the role of the government in pollution prevention measures of the ocean, which specific laws and regulations must be setup and put into motion, so it can have a key role and have authoritative power. The quality of the marine environment has obviously deteriorated as the economy developed, and public hazard signals should become a severe issue that the government should face. Marine biological resources are common assets of the humankind and it is closely related to human survival, therefore, marine ecosystem must be properly preserved so it can maintain its most natural state and its resources can be sustained for our next generation to enjoy. The conclusions of this research includes suggestions for planning marine contamination report system and advice the government to set up an award system to encourage local coastal residents and fishermen to establish marine patrol volunteer organizations and report immediately if they discover any oil contamination in the ocean. Also, to target the characteristic of fishing industry depending on natural resources, it offers a suggested direction for important policies of reinforcing environmental protection and resource preservation and recommends putting in as much protective reef as possible within 3 nautical miles, which are designed to stop trawling nets but does not damage fishing gears. It also advocates waste reduction and reuse of recycled items and by following the treatment method for sewage, if we can transform wastes into usable resources and naturally reduce the pressure of further treatments, the proper handling for marine wastes should be cautiously designed in order to directly and effectively resolve the problem of large amount of wastes. It calls upon the government to appropriately develop, use, and sustainably manage the rich marine resources that we possess. In addition to reinforcing marine-related laws and regulations (amendment), it also aims to strengthen the protection and management of marine territory, actively engage in related research and development of marine resource use to enhance the development of our nation¡¦s marine resources, the technology, and its standards. Finally, by investigating from a sustainable use of the ocean point of view, it is possible to explore new directions for the future developments of the fishing industry and propose possible development strategies, and by examining the current condition of Tainan's coastal fisheries resources, it offers relevant resource management plans for industry-related management units and businesses to take into consideration. Our nation has the ability and conditions to develop marine industry and under the demands of international competition and domestic development, a continuation for the marine industry development is of absolute importance and necessity.

A capacidade absortiva e as atividades de inovação em pequenas empresas : um estudo de múltiplos casos na indústria náutica brasileira

Vidal, Valéria Schneider January 2014 (has links)
Based on the literature on absorptive capacity and innovation studies, it is argued in this research that the absorptive capacity influences the activities of innovation. It was used the model of absorptive capacity of Zahra and George (2002), which is based on the potential absorptive capacity comprised by the dimensions of acquisition and assimilation, and on realized absorptive capacity, based on the dimensions of transformation and exploitation. Innovation is understood as a process that can generate innovations in products and processes, services, organization and marketing. However, this study focuses on innovations in products and processes. Thus, in order to understand how the absorptive capacity influences the innovation of products and processes in Brazilian micro and small firms, this study adopted a qualitative approach. A multiple cases study was conducted in the marine industry. The two cases were analyzed separately and then compared, looking for similarities that would broaden the understanding of the phenomenon. The results suggest a positive influence of absorptive capacity on innovation activities of micro and small firms in the Brazilian marine industry. Some differential elements were found, such as the fact that, in the cases studied, the process of innovation starts from the accumulated experience, the perception of the owners, the information from customers and sailors and the information obtained from the suppliers. Another factor is that there is sometimes a feedback process between the dimensions of assimilation and transformation, even though short, before the information is exploited in the form of new products and more efficient processes. Finally, it was found that the level of development of absorptive capacity influences the innovation of products and processes. The final contribution of this study consists of an integrative framework that demonstrates the influence and operation of absorptive capacity in generating innovation of products and processes in micro and small firms.

The management of public-private partnerships in restructuring the South African marine industry towards sustainable development

Arendse, Paul January 2003 (has links)
Masters in Public Administration - MPA / In the dissertation entitled The Management of Public-Private Partnerships in restructuring the South African marine industry towards sustainable development the author explores the thematic study of sustainable development through Public-Private Partnerships. The setting of the research project is a southern Africa case study of the marine industry in South Africa. The study develops a conceptual framework of how the contemporary discourse of sustainable development, namely, Public-Private Partnerships, could be applied in creating an environment for human security by restructuring its marine resource institutional economics towards community development enterprises. The objective of the study is to develop a conceptual sustainable resource management model that proposes new institutional arrangements between social, economic, environmental and political actors and stakeholders in the marine industry through Public-Private Partnerships. The thesis concludes to demonstrate how this resource management model result in equitable outcomes within the new institutional arrangements between the different actors and stakeholder in a Public-Private co-management system. It hereby applies the development discourse of Public-Private Partnerships in restructuring South African marine resource management towards sustainable development.

Diving into venture creation : An exploratory study of how external enabler combinations facilitate sustainable venture creation in the marine sector

Eriksson, Rebecca Olivia, Regoczi, Benedek January 2023 (has links)
Rapidly increasing global environmental changes are causing disruptions in the natural environment and have resulted in emphasized importance of developing sustainable entrepreneurship to mitigate climate change. To do this, however, external conditions have been argued to stimulate new business opportunities, which have been reconceptualized as external enablers (Davidsson, 2015). This study will therefore investigate how combinations of external enablers can be understood and leveraged to facilitate new sustainable venture creation within one of the sectors with the potential to reverse climate change, the marine sector. Thus, the aim of this study is to assess the combinations of external enablers that facilitate venture creation within the marine sector. The study was conducted in accordance with the interpretivist approach, basing the data collection on multiple case studies. The case studies were based on secondary online data and semi-constructed interviews, where the data was later analyzed through a coding process according to Gioia et al., (2013). The study was set to follow an inductive approach.  The empirical findings show that the prominent external enabler combinations for sustainable ventures within the marine sector are of the regulatory, economic and sociocultural types which have a complementary relationship and act in symbiosis. The symbiosis is in turn affected by climate change as a fundamental enabling factor for sustainable ventures.
