The literature on cassava nitrogenous fertilization is scarce. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of levels and nitrogenous fertilizer sources on dry matter and nitrogen accumulation in roots and aerial parts of cassava. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Station of Itagua?/PESAGRO-Rio in Serop?dica, State of Rio de Janeiro, on a Red-Yellow Podzolic soil, in the period May 1999 to June 2000. The design of the field experiment was in randomized blocks with four repetitions, in a 3 x 5 factorial outline, made up of by three N sources (urea, nitrocalcium and ammonium sulphate) and five N levels (0, 60, 120, 180 and 200 kg N ha-1). Each plot had 64.0 m2 with 12 grooves, spaced at 1.0m. The planting was carried out on 28/05/1999 with cuttings of cultivar Saracura. The nitrogen levels were divided into two applications, the first half was applied planting and other half was applied 9 month later. Plants were harvested at 07, 11 and 13 months after planting and determined dry matter, total nitrogen, nitrate-N, amino-N, crude protein and soluble sugars in roots, leaves and stem. To 7 months after planting, urea showed higher total dry matter value. At 13 months, nitrocalcium and ammonium sulphate provided dry matter root yield 20 % higher than the urea. The N content in leaves was approximately 7 times bigger those the N root contents. The application of 30 kg N ha-1 resulted in increase of 11% in leaf N content. There was a cassava response to N application and can behave as a specie efficient responsive little. / A mandioca ? uma das principais fontes de carboidratos nos tr?picos, fazendo parte da alimenta??o b?sica de cerca de 500 milh?es pessoas, principalmente em pa?ses em desenvolvimento. Estudos com aduba??o nitrogenada em mandioca s?o escassos. O presente trabalho objetivou-se avaliar o efeito de fontes e n?veis de adubos nitrogenados sobre o ac?mulo de mat?ria seca e distribui??o de nitrog?nio nas ra?zes e parte a?rea da cultura da mandioca. O experimento foi instalado na Esta??o Experimental de Itagua? (PESAGRO-RJ), sobre um solo Podz?lico Vermelho-Amarelo distr?fico, no periodo de maio de 1999 a junho de 2000. Utilizou-se o delineamento de blocos ao acaso no esquema fatorial 3 x 5 com quatro repeti??es. Foram avaliadas tr?s fontes de nitrog?nio: ur?ia, nitroc?lcio e sulfato de am?nio, combinadas em cinco n?veis de aplica??o de N: 0; 60; 120; 160 e 200 kg N ha-1. Cada parcela apresentou 64 m2 com 12 sulcos, espa?ados de 1,0 m. O plantio foi realizado em 28/05/1999, usando-se manivas da cultivar Saracura, obtidas de fonte comercial da regi?o produtora de Santa Cruz, munic?pio do Rio de Janeiro. As doses de N foram aplicadas parceladamente, sendo metade por ocasi?o do plantio e a outra metade aos nove meses ap?s o plantio. Foram realizadas coletas de material vegetal aos sete, onze e aos treze meses ap?s plantio para determinar as seguintes vari?veis: massa seca, N-total, prote?na bruta, N-amino, N-nitrato e a??cares sol?veis de ra?zes, folhas e caule. Aos sete meses ap?s o plantio, a ureia apresentou maior valor de massa seca total. Aos 13 meses, nitroc?lcio e sulfato de am?nio proporcionaram rendimento de massa seca de raiz 20% superior ao da ur?ia. A aplica??o de 30 kg N ha-1 resultou em um aumento de 11% no teor de N em folhas. O teor de N em folhas foi aproximadamente sete vezes maior ao N da raiz. Durante o per?odo de crescimento da cultura, houve uma resposta da mesma ? aplica??o de N, podendo se comportar como uma esp?cie eficiente pouco responsiva.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the composition, structure and quality of the elephantgrass managed in a rotationally grazing system. The residue of the grazing was 70 cm of height. Three cycles of grazing had been analyzed; each cycle corresponded by 3 days of pasture with 30 days of rest. In the 1st cycle was evaluated the average of foliar area of main, aerial and basal tillers. In 2nd and 3rd cycle the same data had been evaluated, had been the concern in substituting the lost tillers during grazing. There were had differences between three cycles of pasture (P < 0,05). During 1st cycle, was observed higher rate of foliar area 93,97c (cm2.tiller-1) because main tillers had presented greater area of leaves in expansion, and expanded, already the tillering of aerial and basal tillers presented minor foliar area because apical meristem still was preserved of grazing. At the 2nd cycle, the rate of foliar area reduced (73,35b) because grazing resulted the intake of leaves in expansion and consequently the elimination of apical meristem promoted the aerial and basal tillering. After 3rd cycle, the main tillers, by being with apical meristem decapitated speeds up the aerial tillering and basal and tillers with apical preserved meristem blossom. However, leaves in expansion and expanded of main tillers presented minor or almost none foliar area, totalizing lesser average of total foliar area (28,82a). The production of dry-matter of leaves in expansion (26,1b) and expanded (26,7c) in the 1st cycle of pasture of fellow tillers to the main tillers had been increase by higher pluviosity and protection of apical meristem. In 2nd cycle, leaves in expansion (18,3a) and expended leaves (18,4a) were consumed by grazing thus apical meristem, causing lesser production of dry-matter. Leaves that were not consumed by pasture came into senescence and tiller stocked energy to emit aerial and basal tillers to the 3rd cycle of pasture, resulting raise in of dry-matter production in expansion leaves (19,1a) and expended leaves (22,6b). Data are been reforced by the rate of colm+sheath, that exhibited arger average for dry-matter production at 3rd cycle of grazing (23,0b), followed by 1st cycle (14,9a) and 2nd one (13,7a). / Em trabalho realizado no Campo Experimental de Santa M?nica da Embrapa Gado de Leite, localizado no distrito de Bar?o de Juparan?, munic?pio de Valen?a / RJ, o objetivo foi avaliar a composi??o, estrutura e qualidade do capim-elefante sob pastejo rotativo. Tr?s ciclos de pastejo foram analisados, cada ciclo correspondeu a 3 dias de pastejo com 30 dias de descanso. No 1? ciclo avaliou-se a ?rea foliar m?dia de perfilhos principais, a?reos e basais. As principais esp?cies comercializadas dentro de Eriocaulaceae pertencem ao g?nero Comanthera e muitas se encontram amea?adas de extin??o. O extrativismo de sempre vivas gera emprego e renda no Vale do Jequitinhonha e regi?es circunvizinhas. A falta de conhecimento sobre a esp?cie ? citada como a principal causa da n?o elabora??o de normativas que estabele?am os procedimentos de manejo. A inexist?ncia de normativas tem contribu?do significantemente para a coleta indiscriminada dessas esp?cies. Objetivou-se com o presente trabalho: caracterizar o desenvolvimento de C. elegans em sistema de cultivo; estabelecer dentro de tr?s sistemas de cultivos propostos (canteiro, faixa e ?rea total) o que mais favorece o desenvolvimento de C. elegans e de C. bisulcata. O trabalho foi desenvolvido em Galheiros-MG, no per?odo de janeiro de 2009 a junho de 2010. O material proveniente do processamento de cap?tulos contendo sementes foi lan?ado diretamente sobre a superf?cie do solo gradeado. A emerg?ncia de pl?ntulas de S. elegans se iniciou no final de fevereiro de 2009 e em maio ocorreu a antese dos cap?tulos. Na segunda fase reprodutiva, a produ??o de escapos se iniciou em dezembro de 2009 e a antese dos cap?tulos ocorreu em abril de 2010. A produ??o de escapos/planta foi de 3,33 e 48,8, na primeira e na segunda flora??o, respectivamente. O comprimento dos escapos e o di?metro dos cap?tulos foram de 24,25 e 40 cm, 8,45 e 12 mm na primeira e segunda, respectivamente. Na primeira flora??o, a produ??o de sementes ocorreu a partir de agosto e a maior taxa de germina??o (71,79 %) e o melhor desenvolvimento p?s-seminal foram observados para sementes de cap?tulos coletados em novembro de 2009. O sistema de cultivo em canteiro apresentou maior densidade de plantas floridas e maior produ??o de escapos (peso e n?mero) por ?rea em C. elegans e C. bisulcata. Nas duas esp?cies, a produ??o de escapos por planta (peso e n?mero) n?o diferiu de forma significativa entre os tr?s sistemas de cultivo. Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Produ??o Vegetal, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2010. / ABSTRACT Everlasting flowers belong to Eriocaulaceae, Xyridaceae, Cyperaceae, Amaranthaceae and Rapataceae families. The main Eriocaulaceae species are from the genre Comanthera and most of them are threatened of extinction. Everlasting collection is one of the most important sources of income for many families around Jequitinhonha Valley. This specie is not well known, so, rules to establish management systems are not elaborated, causing a problematic harvest. This study aimed: to characterize the development of C. elegans under different cultivation systems, to establish which, of the three suggested systems (in beds, row and total area), is the best one to C. elegans and C. bisulcata development. The experiment was carried out in Galheiros-MG from January/09 to June/10. Material taken from the capitula with seeds was thrown on the ground. Emergence of C. elegans plantule started at the end of February/09 and capitula anthesis occurred in May. At reproductive stage, escapes production started in December/09 and capitula anthesis in April/10. The production escapes/plant was 3.33 and 48.8, respectively at first and second flowerage. Escapes length and capitula diameter were 24.25 and 40 cm, 8.45 and 12 mm, respectively to first and second flowerage. At first flowerage, seeds production occurred from August. Higher germination rate (71.79%) and better post-seminal development were observed in seeds of capitula collected in November/09. C. elegans and C. bisulcata showed higher flowered plant density and escapes production per area, under the system in bed. In both species, escapes per plant do not differ significantly for each system evaluated. Higher productivity per area observed under bed system is associated to the higher density of established and flowered plants under this system.

Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Zootecnia, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2013. / ABSTRACT The study was conducted at the Federal University of Vi?osa, in order to assess the populations of microorganisms, losses of dry matter, chemical composition and fermentation characteristics of silage mixed Marandu grass with different levels of peanut (0, 25 , 50, 75 and 100%), with and without inoculant Sil All (Alltech Brazil). We used a 5 x 2 factorial design (five proportions of peanut, with and without inoculation), in a completely randomized design with three replications. The material was ensiled in buckets with a capacity of 20 liters, fitted with Bunsen valves, and open 60 days after closing for evaluations. We observed a significant interaction between level of peanut and inoculation on pH (P <0.05) and levels of NDF (P <0.01), lactic acid, propionic and butyric acids, yeast fungus populations + (P <0 , 05), gas production (P <0.01), recovery and total production of dry matter. There was no effect on the level of peanut for pH (P <0.01) and DM, CP, ADF, NIDA, lignin, NDF, residual soluble carbohydrates, NH3 (P <0.05), lactic acid ( P <0.01), acetic, propionic and butyric acids, lactic acid bacteria population (P <0.05) + yeasts and fungi (P <0.01) and for total recovery and losses of dry matter. The effect of inoculum was observed on the pH (P <0.01) levels of NIDA lignin, NDF, residual soluble carbohydrates (P <0.05), lactic acid (P <0.01) and propionic, and on Total recovery and losses of dry matter. We conclude that the addition of the peanut Marandu grass at the time of ensiling increases the protein content and reduces the fiber content as well as provides adequate fermentation profile and good recovery of dry matter in the silage, regardless of the use of inoculant.

Foram conduzidos dois experimentos em casa de vegeta??o, em esquema fatorial 4 x 2, no delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repeti??es. No experimento 1, ap?s o desbaste das plantas nos vasos, foram aplicadas doses semanais de 50 mg dm-3 de N e K2O, at? uma semana antes do corte de uniformiza??o, totalizando quatro aplica??es, e, ap?s o corte, foram aplicadas doses de 50 mg dm-3 de N e de K2O nos intervalos 0; 3; 6 e 9 dias, sendo as cultivares avaliadas com 44 dias de rebrota??o. No experimento 2, foi aplicada dose ?nica de 50 mg dm-3 de N de K2O, uma semana antes do corte de uniformiza??o e, ap?s o corte, foram aplicados 100 mg dm-3 de N e de K2O nos intervalos 0; 4; 8 e 12 dias, avaliando-se as cultivares com 39 dias de rebrota??o. No experimento 1, somente a produ??o de mat?ria seca e a rela??o l?mina/colmo foram influenciadas pelo intervalo de aplica??o dos adubos. J? no experimento 2, o n?mero total de folhas, o n?mero de folhas expandidas, o n?mero de folhas mortas e o comprimento laminar acumulado foram influenciados pelo intervalo de forma linear negativa, enquanto a produ??o de mat?ria seca apresentou resposta quadr?tica ao aumento do intervalo de aduba??o. Nas condi??es estudadas, conclui-se que a cv. Marandu apresenta maior n?mero de folhas e de perfilhos que a cv. Xara?s, que, por sua vez, apresenta maior altura, produ??o de mat?ria seca, rela??o l?mina/colmo e produ??o da rebrota??o. A aplica??o dos adubos nitrogenado e pot?ssico imediatamente ap?s o corte apresenta melhores resultados para as caracter?sticas estruturais, exceto para n?mero de folhas mortas. Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Produ??o Vegetal, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2009. / ABSTRACT The objective was to evaluate the effect of differents intervals of N and K2O application after the cut in the structural and productives characteristics of the cultivars Marandu and Xara?s of Brachiaria brizantha. Two experiments mere conducted in a greenhouse, in a 4x2 factorial scheme, in a randomized block design with four repetitions. In experiment one, after the plants thinning in the vases, were applied weekly dosage of 50 mg dm-3 of N and K2O, until one week before the standardized cut, in total of four applications, and after the cut, were applied doses of 50 mg dm-3 of N and of K2O, in the intervals 0; 3; 6 and 9 days, been the cultivars evaluated with 44 days of regrowth. In experiment two, were applied unique dose of 50 mg dm-3 of N and of K2O, one week before the standardized cut and, after the cut were applied 100 mg dm-3 of N and of K2O in the intervals 0; 4; 8 and 12 days, evaluating the cultivars with 39 days of regrowth. In experiment one, only the dry material production and the relation leaf-stem were influenced for the intervals of fertilizer application. Already in the experiment two, total number of leaves, number of expanded leaves, number of dead leaves and accumulated laminar length were influenced for the interval in a negative linear form way, while the dry material production presents a quadratic answer to adubation intervals increase. In studied conditions, the conclusion is that cultivar Marandu presents bigger number of leaves and of tillers than the cultivar Xara?s, that presents bigger height, production of dry material, relation leaf-stem and regrowth production. The nitrogen fertilizer and potassium application immediately after the cut presents better results for the structural characteristics, except for number of dead leaves. The dry material production per vase and per plant is maximized with the adubation between four and five days after the cut.

Utilizou-se o esquema fatorial 2x2x2 (dois gen?tipos, CNPGL 92-198-7 e CNPGL 00-1-3; duas intercepta??es luminosas ao corte, 90 e 95%; duas alturas de res?duo p?s-pastejo, 30 e 50 cm), no delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com tr?s repeti??es. O rebaixamento do dossel foi realizado via pastejo direto por novilhas mesti?as Hol?ndes x Zebu utilizando a t?cnica ?mob grazing?. As caracter?sticas estruturais e produtivas foram avaliadas a partir de coletas realizadas rente ao solo e o valor nutritivo foi determinado no material amostrado. O gen?tipo CNPGL 92-198-7 apresentou menor per?odo de descanso e mais ciclos de pastejo, refletindo em maior produ??o de forragem dentro da esta??o de crescimento. O manejo com res?duo p?s-pastejo com 30 cm resultou em melhor rela??o l?mina/colmo e consequente percentagem de l?mina foliar, com superioridade do gen?tipo CNPGL 92-198-7 sobre o gen?tipo CNPGL 00-1-3. Programa de P?s-Gradua??o em Zootecnia, Universidade Federal dos Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri, 2011. / ABSTRACT The study was conducted at Embrapa Gado de Leite (Minas Gerais, Brazil), to evaluate the nutritional characteristics, structural and production of elephant grass genotypes under intermittent stocking strategies. There had been used a 2x2x2 factorial (two genotypes, CNPGL 92-198-7 and CNPGL 00-1-3; two light interceptions to cut, 90 and 95%, two post-grazing residue heights, 30 and 50 cm) in a completely randomized design with three replications. The lowering of the canopy was accomplished via direct grazing of crossbred Holstein x Zebu heifers using the technique "mob grazing". The structural and productive characteristics were assessed from samples taken at ground level and nutritive value was determined in the sampled material. The genotype CNPGL 92-198-7 presented a shorter rest period and more grazing cycles, resulting in a higher forage production in the growing season. The management with post-grazing residue of 30 cm height resulted in better value for blade/stem and a resulting percentage of leaf blades, with superiority of genotype CNPGL 92-198-7 compared to genotype CNPGL 00-1-3. The genotype CNPGL 92-198-7 has showed to be superior to the genotype CNPGL 00-1-3 in relation to forage accumulation rate and number of tillers. The genotype CNPGL 92-198-7 has a higher content of CP and IVDMD and lower NDF content under 90% light interception and post-grazing residue height of 30 cm. The genotype CNPGL 92-198-7 showed the highest degradation in 90% IL, and height post-grazing of 30 cm, as the genotype CNPGL 00-1-3 had the highest rate of degradation in IL of 95% under 30 cm of height post-grazing. It is recommended the use of genotype CNPGL 92-198-7, handling this under 95% IL and height post-grazing residue of 30 cm which is the condition that the forage is at its highest productivity.

The underlying assumption was that the application of increasing levels of N is a powerful tool for that purpose. The experiment was developed over a Planosol of occurrence in the experimental field of the Universidade Federal Rural Rio de Janeiro, city of Serop?dica, Brazil, during the establishment of the pasture, between the months of October, 2006 to January 2007. Treatments consisted of four levels of N (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg N-urea. ha-1), in single application, in plots of 4 x 4 m, arranged in blocks fully randomized, with four repetitions. Together with nitrogen fertilization, the plots received 80 kg P.ha-1 and 150 kg K.ha-1, and Ca as calcareo (1.0 tn.ha-1). The variables were: frequency of occurrence of plants; height of the canopy, leaf growth and leaf area index (LAI), the interception of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and the production and partition of dry matter. The results showed that the frequency of occurrence, height and interception of PAR varied according to a standard logistic, whose parameters have been modified to a greater or lesser degree, by the levels of N added. Similarly, at the 87 days after planting, the LAI and the total dry matter produced, but not its partition between leaves and stems, responded to changes in N mineral available in the soil. It was concluded that the application of increasing levels of Nurea, during the establishment of grass tifton 85 was an efficient experimental strategy for the induction of quantitative changes during the development time of swards structure. / O presente trabalho foi realizado com o prop?sito de definir estrat?gias de aduba??o nitrogenada em pastagens de tifton 85, baseadas no monitoramento de mudan?as din?micas na estrutura dos doss?is forrageiros. O experimento foi desenvolvido numa ?rea de Planossolo no campo experimental da Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, munic?pio de Serop?dica, RJ, durante a fase de estabelecimento da pastagem, entre os meses de outubro de 2006 a janeiro de 2007. Os tratamentos consistiram de quatro n?veis de N (0; 50; 100 e 150 kg N-ur?ia.ha-1), em aplica??o ?nica, dispostos em parcelas de 4 x 4 m, arranjadas em blocos inteiramente casualizados, com quatro repeti??es. Em conjunto com a aduba??o nitrogenada, as parcelas receberam 80 kg P.ha-1 e 150 kg K.ha-1. O solo foi corrigido com 1,0 tn.ha-1 de calc?reo. As vari?veis estudadas foram: freq??ncia de ocorr?ncia de plantas; altura do dossel, crescimento foliar e ?ndice de ?rea foliar (IAF), intercepta??o de radia??o fotossinteticamente ativa (RFA) e produ??o e parti??o da mat?ria seca. Os resultados obtidos mostraram que a freq??ncia de ocorr?ncia; altura e a intercepta??o de RFA variaram temporalmente de acordo com um padr?o log?stico, cujos par?metros foram modificados, em maior ou menor grau, pelos n?veis de N adicionados. De forma similar, aos 87 dias p?s- plantio, o IAF e a mat?ria seca total produzida, mas n?o a sua parti??o entre folhas e colmos, responderam ?s varia??es do N mineral dispon?vel no solo.
