Evaluating .NET MAUI as a replacement for native Android mobile application development with focus on performance

Palmqvist, Lukas January 2023 (has links)
Background: These days when developing applications for mobile platforms, therehave been two main branches to pick between as a developer. The first option– denoted native development – targets only one specific mobile operating system(OS). The other is cross-platform development which can target multiple platformssimultaneously. A common concern with cross-platform development, however, is itsperformance when compared to native frameworks. Objectives: In this thesis, the objective is to compare the performance of applica-tions created for Android using the native framework and the cross-platform .NETMAUI framework by Microsoft. Methods: The method used in this thesis was a combination of a literature (map-ping) study and an experiment. The purpose of the mapping study was to identifyrelevant performance metrics. The experiment then observed those how those met-rics, CPU and memory (RAM) usage, differed between the applications created usingboth frameworks. Results: Overall, the .NET MAUI framework was significantly worse than the na-tive framework on both measured performance metrics in 9 out of 12 tasks tested. The .NET MAUI framework was significantly better in 1 task, while 2 other tasksended up with differences that were statistically insignificant. Conclusions: An experiment was conducted to compare CPU usage in % andmemory (RAM) usage in MB between the native framework and the .NET MAUIframework for Android development on a variety of tasks. The outcome of the ex-periment significantly favored the native framework statistically. However, due to ofthe small sample size in selected tasks as well as specific design choices it is unclearhow real-world use would compare.

Freshwater on the island of Maui : system interactions, supply, and demand

Grubert, Emily 08 July 2011 (has links)
This work is part of a broader, multi-year investigation of Maui Island’s freshwater resources. Maui Island faces multiple resource constraints, including water, land, energy, and capital, and these resource constraints could become relevant over the next forty years. Not only does Maui face potential changes to its water and other systems due to external factors beyond its control, like anthropogenic and other climate changes, but Maui also could make developmental choices that will impact how its resource systems interact. In particular, this work looks at Maui’s freshwater systems as they relate to energy, waste, and environmental systems. This report provides a foundation for future scenario analysis on the island that will aim to characterize potential synergies and hazards of choices like increased food production, local fuel production, and increased use of renewable energies. / text

Health education in the public schools of Hawaii

Atkins, Thelma F. 01 January 1941 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis will trace the major developments in the field of health education in the public schools or the Territory of Hawaii from the beginnings made in 1009 to the present time. Some attention will be paid to developments on the Islands or Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai; but the greater emphasis will be placed on the work done on the Island of Oahu. The public schools of the Territory of Hawaii are at present carrying on an extensive health program. The special health class work seems to be receiving more attention in the non-English standard schools. The need is more pronounced in these schools than in the English standard schools, and this, no doubt, accounts for the greater degree of interest shown. Perhaps the greatest progress has been made in some of the plantation schools. While these schools are a part of the public school system, they are also an integral part of the plantation community. In many instances, the entire school population of a plantation school is made up entirely of children whose parents work on the plantation. The officials on the plantation are vitally interested in the welfare of their workers and their families, and they are eager to do all that is possible to improve health conditions. This study is based on information obtained on several trips to Hawaii. It includes observations, made over a period of more than three years and experiences as an exchange teacher in a health class at Ewa, Oahu.

React Native, .NET MAUI och nativ Android : En komparativ studie ur ett prestandaperspektiv / React Native, .NET MAUI and native Android : A comparative study from a performanceperspective

Karlsson, Henrik January 2023 (has links)

Sjödin, Sara January 2006 (has links)

Healing maori through song and dance? Three case studies of recent New Zealand music theatre.

Johnston, Emma Anne January 2007 (has links)
This thesis investigates the way "healing" may be seen to be represented and enacted by three recent New Zealand music theatre productions: Once Were Warriors, the Musical-Drama; The Whale Rider, On Stage; and Footprints/Tapuwae, a bicultural opera. This thesis addresses the ways each of these music theatre productions can be seen to dramatise ideologically informed notions of Maori cultural health through the encounter of Maori performance practices with American and European music theatre forms. Because the original colonial encounter between Maori and Pakeha was a wounding process, it may be possible that in order to construct a theatrical meeting between the "colonised" Maori and the "colonial" non-Maori, "healing" is an essential element by which to foster an idea of the post-colonial, bicultural togetherness of the nation. In all three productions, Maori song and dance forms are incorporated into a distinctive form of western music theatre: the American musical; the international spectacle; Wagnerian opera. Wagner's attempts to regenerate German culture through his music dramas can be compared to Maori renaissance idea(l)s of cultural "healing" through a "return" to Maori myths, traditions and song and dance.

The Rebellious Mirror,Before and after 1984:Community-based theatre in Aotearoa

Maunder, Paul Allan January 2010 (has links)
In this thesis I outline the contribution Community-based theatre has made to New Zealand theatre. This involves a defining of theatre production as a material practice. Community-based theatre was a tendency from the 1930s, a promise of the left theatre movement and, I argue, was being searched for as a form of practice by the avant-garde, experimental practitioners of the 1970s. At the same time, early Māori theatre began as a Community-based practice before moving into the mainstream. With the arrival of neo-liberalism to Aotearoa in 1984, community groups and Community-based theatre could become official providers within the political system. This led to a flowering of practices, which I describe, together with the tensions that arise from being a part of that system. However, neo-liberalism introduced managerial practices into state contracting and patronage policy, which effectively denied this flowering the sustenance deserved. At the same time, these policies commodified mainstream theatre production. In conclusion, I argue that in the current situation of global crisis, Community-based theatre practice has a continuing role to play in giving voice to the multitude and by being a practice of the Common.
