Att Vandra i Intets Närhet : Wittgenstein, Heidegger och Vägen Bortom Filosofins Slut

Norenius, Simon January 2016 (has links)
What does it mean to occupy the other side of what is - to “be” the nothing that lies beyond being? Or, in other words: Where yonder the End of Philosophy? Thus reads the first and final line of inquiry that we, the philosophers of this age, are impelled to pursue. Such is the case, I contend, in light of the fact that our time quite simply is that of the eschatological aftermath, the “postmodern” era where the purportedly “greatest” thinkers of our immediate past, Martin Heidegger and Ludwig Wittgenstein, have, each in his own way, already declared philosophical moratorium. Yet it seems to me there is curious and vital affinity to the philosophical legacy these thinkers, whose mark on history is, paradoxically, so wide and so deep as to be at once indelible and invisible. Accordingly, this thesis seeks to render Heidegger and Wittgenstein, each a formidable critic of the philosophical tradition, as mutually complementary voices, speaking not of an end-to-be, but on the way beyond the end-that-is-past. In writing on the disjunctive parallelism evident in their famed non-encounter, I hope to clarify the nature and purpose of contemporary philosophical practice. My principal argument is that, in locating philosophy, conceived as a thematic study of the being of what is, within language, Wittgenstein and Heidegger both came to view language itself as the pre-philosophical nothing, which, in its wordless non-identity or self-difference, presents a way beyond the word and world of traditional philosophical thinking. It is my hope that, in outlying the shared strains of their respective critical disclosures of the relation between language and philosophy, I will be able to say not the same, but something yet unsaid, addressing our time, the time after the end, as a period of continued, self-critical thinking and speaking about that which, as the difference between the spoken word and that which is, prepares the way towards an experience of the hitherto “impossible” meaning of non-being.

The Role Of Vulnerability In Athletics: Applications For Future Female Leaders In Combating Feelings Of Shame And Weakness

Woods, Melyssa 01 January 2017 (has links)
Growing up as fairly successful female-athlete, I have always felt somewhat undermined and frustrated when I take a look at the double-standards and social injustice compared to those male counterparts. When it comes to intercollegiate athletics, so much integrity has been lost because of this injustice, as well as the "win at all costs" mentality. Through my upbringing and the many positive experiences that came into play, however, I have been raised to uphold a strong level of integrity and live my life with honesty. By living and leading with authenticity, feelings of vulnerability and shame often come up. As a female leader, these vulnerable feelings are often shielded and masked in order to better suit the patriarchal athletic society. Through my personal experiences in the sport world, I have found that accepting one's vulnerability is a method to grow as a leader. By tackling feelings of shame directly, female leaders take on a new meaning of resiliency. Through the process of evaluating my own personal experiences of resiliency during the stages of childhood, collegiate athlete, collegiate coach, and female leader, I have come up with universal applications that look at the role of vulnerability in leadership.

The Roles of Religious Coping, World Assumptions, and Personal Growth in College Student Bereavement

Lord, Benjamin 28 April 2010 (has links)
The field of bereavement research is currently lacking empirical studies examining grief in adolescent and young adult populations. Furthermore, the roles of religion (Hays, & Hendrix, 2008), meaning-making (Park, 2005) and post-bereavement personal growth (Davis, 2008), all of which are critical to understanding the loss experiences of people in these age groups (Balk, & Corr, 1996), have yet to be enumerated in a reliable way in the literature. Stroebe (2004) has emphasized the need to improve methods and measurement tools by including more thorough measures of religious coping and bereavement experience. The current study aimed to clarify the process of meaning-making following the loss of a loved one by testing a mediational model in which the use of positive religious coping methods influence the maintenance or development of adaptive core beliefs, which in turn produce favorable outcomes. Data were collected in a survey format from 222 college students, and analyzed using structural equation modeling to test the data against Baron and Kenny’s (1986) criteria for mediation. The data do not support a mediational model of meaning-making for the current sample, but an acceptable model of the effects of world assumptions on outcome variables was developed. The data suggest that while all core beliefs are important to the process of personal growth following a loss, beliefs regarding self-worth are the strongest predictors of positive outcomes and stronger beliefs in the randomness of events are problematic.

conceptual packaging

Raungpaka, Thirada 01 January 2006 (has links)
Packaging and package design is commonly thought of as a tool to attract the consumer to material goods. Packages, however, have other attributes. In Japan, packaging design is very charming because of the delicate selection of materials, images, and interaction. Different kinds of material provide different emotions and appeal to our sense of touch, which can be interpreted in many ways. Packaging lets us directly interact with an object and this experience becomes memorable and intimate. The combination of image and interaction creates another dimension of story telling. My creative project, Conceptual Packaging, is an experiment in using materials and forms to package immaterial concepts and messages such as memories.

Material Meaning

Jordan, Anne 01 January 2012 (has links)
The synthesis of old and new, analog and digital, and hand- and computer-based methods provides designers with an opportunity to work beyond the constraints of the computer and take advantage of the aesthetic effects that actual materials bring to visual communication. Designers who choose to actively participate in their process – bringing the aesthetic effects of working materially into the realm of the digital – will likely learn to reject an approach that relies too heavily on passive digital tools. Active participation in the design process can extend our creative vocabulary and humanize visual communication.

Entendre la métaphysique. Les significations de la pensée de Descartes dans l’œuvre de Heidegger / Hearing Metaphysics : The Meanings of Descartes’ Thought in Heidegger’s Work

Perrin, Christophe 30 March 2012 (has links)
Heidegger shows us a new way to understand metaphysics by attending patiently to it. In this work, I would like to pay attention to Heidegger and to what he has to say about one metaphysician in particular, namely Descartes. Heidegger’s understanding of Descartes’ thought should not be considered as anecdotal since it brings to light his own path outside and within the metaphysical domain. I will adopt here a hermeneutic approach: focusing on the meaning one chose as well as on the meaning the other gave, we show how the former influenced the latter.

Předpony s-, z- v historickém vývoji češtiny / The prefixes s-, z- in the historical development of Czech

Breburdová, Johana January 2014 (has links)
The master's thesis describes the semantic development and usage of prefixes s-, z- and vz- in Czech. The thesis begins with a short summary of theoretical background, definition of the subject matter and terms used. It then proceeds with etymological analysis and description of meanings of equivalents of these prefixes in Old Slavic. Following chapters analyze the competition of the three prefixes in Old Czech, describing the factors that impacted their use and provide an overview of the matter in New Czech, with regards to the semantic aspect of the mentioned prefixes. Subsequently, the thesis summarizes orthographic principles of s- and z- (and vz-) from the 16th century up to present times. The last chapter provides an overview of the situation in other Slavic languages with respect to the West Slavic branch. Attention is also paid to the matter of merging the prefixes s- and z- into one.

Filosofování a obec / Philosophy and community

Timingeriu, Filip January 2012 (has links)
Master's thesis "Philosophy and community" looks into the origin of ancient greek term "polis" and inception of its citizen. It looks into it as specifical means of being of world and human. The correlation of polis and citizen is most apparent in philosophy of Plato. With an emphasis on his privilegy of spoken word over written one, he shows possible sources of philosophical hermeneutics. By understanding the situation, which leads to the decline of the reciprocal relationship between human and world, author would like to express that in Platos way of thinking are still unreflected possibilities of solution for the present day. Intention of this work is to contribute - by sketching and explication of the principles of political thinking - to the discussion - and not only to that of the political philosophy and political science.
