Retratos das periferias urbanas nos raps dos Racionais MC's / A portrait of brazilian urban peripheries in the raps of the musical group Racionais MC'sMeichelle Souza Candido 30 March 2009 (has links)
Este trabalho tem por objetivo verificar, a partir do recorte de um dado discurso musical (rap), como os jovens das periferias urbanas brasileiras têm representado discursivamente o social. Sob esse aspecto, a representação dos atores sociais no discurso é o principal foco analítico, tendo como perspectivas teóricas de estudo a Análise Crítica do Discurso (doravante ACD), e a lingüística funcional sistêmica (doravante LFS) no que diz respeito a questões de linguagem. O trabalho apresenta uma introdução na qual são apontadas características de grupos musicais diretamente afetados por conflitos sociais, destacando-se como corpus de trabalho o discurso musical dos Racionais MCs e seguindo-se de uma contextualização histórica do grupo e do movimento hip- hop. Em seguida, apresentam-se, no capítulo teórico, as matérias ligadas diretamente ao objeto de estudo (discurso, ideologia e tipos de significado), ao mesmo tempo em que é feita uma apresentação da linha teórica utilizada e da orientação assumida pelos autores de referência para o trabalho (Fairclough e Halliday). Logo depois, no capítulo metodológico, são descritas as etapas de construção da pesquisa, observando-se os seguintes aspectos: 1) apresentação dos critérios de constituição do corpus, destacando o interesse pelo estilo rap, através de suas principais características, até delimitar as músicas do grupo Racionais MCs para análise; 2) descrição do corpus, a partir de uma característica particular (gangstar rap), com posterior explicação da metodologia criada aqui para sua análise; 3) explicação da categoria analítica utilizada (a representação dos atores sociais), através de exemplos dados pelo seu autor (van Leeuwen, 1996) e outros encontrados no próprio corpus. A análise volta-se, inicialmente, para a observação do significado representacional enfocando as estratégias de representação dos atores sociais utilizadas pelo discurso rap; e, num segundo momento, revela uma prática de polarização, a partir da qual se traça a identidade discursiva do grupo Racionais MCs e sua alteridade (significado identificacional). Com os resultados obtidos, foi possível refletir sobre uma forma de representar o mundo, realizada atualmente por alguns jovens oriundos de comunidades periféricas. Dessa forma, foi possível perceber como os sentidos produzidos por eles podem revelar aspectos significativos de uma nova ordem social brasileira / This dissertation aims at exploring how the youth of Brazilian urban peripheries have been representing their social reality in discourse, on the basis of a study of a given musical genre (rap). To achieve this aim, the main analytical focus of this research is on the discursive representation of social actors, from the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis (henceforth CDA), and that of systemic functional linguistics (henceforth SFL). The introduction of this dissertation deals with the most prominent features of musical groups directly affected by social conflicts, and singles out for corpus of this research the musical discourse of Racionais MC's, a group from São Paulo. The introduction also presents a historical contextualization of the emergence of the group and that of the hip-hop movement. In the theoretical chapter, conceptual categories directly related to the object of study of this research (discourse, ideology and types of meaning) are presented, as well as the theoretical principles in Faircloughs (CDA) and Hallidays (SFL) frameworks. The chapter which introduces the methodology describes the different stages in the construction of the research: 1) it first introduces the criteria in the constitution and delimitation of the corpus; 2) next, it describes the corpus and how it was narrowed down to one particular kind of artistic phenomenon within hip-hop ( gangstar rap ); 3) finally, it introduces an explanation of the analytical category adopted in the research (the representation of social actors in discourse), with examples given by its author (van Leeuwen, 1996) and others found in the corpus itself. The analysis focusses on the strategies used by producers of rap to represent social actors in discourse (representational meaning); in doing this, it reveals a practice of polarization in discourse, on the basis of which the discursive identity of the group Racionais MC's is constructed, as well as its alterity (identificational meanings). The analyses confirm previous research by Herchmann (2005), who argues that the discursive construction of social reality that is carried out at present by some young people in urban peripheries emphasizes fragmentation and conflict. Results of the analyses also suggest that the social meanings produced by Racionais MCs reveal significant aspects of a new Brazilian social order

[pt] Esta tese teve como objeto de pesquisa a associação de aspectos econômicos e sociais ao fenômeno da dotação de sentidos ao trabalho. Considerados de forma articulada, tais aspectos viabilizam a observação do trabalhador como um ser social, passível de uma análise sob a perspectiva teórica de classes. A Teoria dos Condicionantes Sociais, de Pierre Bourdieu (2015), destacou-se como uma lente teórica útil na consideração deste objeto de pesquisa. Estabelecido o recorte de pesquisa - jovens trabalhadores do Centro do Rio de Janeiro - os objetivos deste estudo: a) compreender como se dá a dotação de sentidos ao trabalho entre jovens de diferentes classes sociais; b) remontar as origens do sentido do trabalho comuns a cada classe social entre os jovens; e c) identificar os condicionantes sociais do campo profissional referentes à cada classe social. Foram realizadas 18 entrevistas em profundidade com jovens trabalhadores que, para efeitos de análise, foram divididos em dois grupos: jovens zona norte - de estratos sociais menos abastados; e jovens zona sul – de estratos sociais mais afluentes. Em linhas gerais, nos dois grupos destacou-se a percepção do trabalho como uma forma de subsistência. Entre os jovens zona norte, a atividade profissional é carregada de forte sentido moral, já dentre os jovens zona sul, consideram-se também aspectos hedonistas referentes ao trabalho, que seria o exercício de uma vocação, dotada com uma função de relevância e impacto social. O cotidiano profissional e a família emergem como categorias que explicam a origem dos sentidos atribuídos ao trabalho para esses dois grupos. Todavia, dentre os jovens zona sul, depreende-se a percepção de que tal construção se daria de forma reflexiva, sendo ponderado por seus próprios valores e crenças. A socialização primária dos jovens zona norte é marcada por uma considerável fragilidade da sua experiência escolar e familiar - no sentido de provisão material. Em contraponto, os jovens zona sul gozam de uma experiência escolar axiomática e amplo suporte familiar. / [en] This thesis is about the association of economic and social aspects to the meaning of work phenomena. Considered in an articulated way, these aspects enable the observation of the worker as a social agent, through the theoretical perspective of social classes. Pierre Bourdieu s Theory of Social Conditioning stood out as a theoretical lens useful in the consideration of this object of research. Once stablished one specific group of interest – young workers at the Center of Rio de Janeiro City – the research objectives were: a) understand how the meaning of work phenomena happens among young workers from different social classes; b) set back the sources of meaning of work common to each social class; and c) identify the social determinants of the professional field related to each social class. Eighteen in-depth interviews were carried out with young workers who, for the purposes of analysis, were divided into two groups: north zone - concerning less well-off social strata; and south zone - concerning more affluent social strata. In general, the two groups emphasized the perception of work as a form of subsistence. Among the young people from the north zone group, professional activity has a strong moral sense, and among the ones from the south zone group, some hedonistic aspects are related to work, which would also be the performance of a vocation, endowed with a social function of relevance and impact. Work context and the family emerge as categories that explain the sources of the meanings attributed to work for both groups. However, among the subjects from the south zone group, there is a perception that such construction would take place in a reflexive way, being filtered by its own values and beliefs. The primary socialization of the young workers from the north zone group is marked by a considerable fragility of their scholar and familiar experience - in the sense of material provision. In contrast, the subjects from the southern zone group enjoy an axiomatic school experience and broad family support.

Punning Exploiting External and Internal Metaphors : A Study of Groucho Marx's Use of Metaphor ReversalLarsson, Kalle January 2007 (has links)
The aim of this study has been to analyse metaphorical strings which have been interpreted literally, a process referred to as metaphor reversal. This was first described by Löflund (1999:18) and the specific term was later coined by Alm-Arvius (2006:6). Metaphor reversal is basically a subcategory of the broader term polysemy punning. When a metaphor unexpectedly is interpreted literally, a humorous effect takes place and a pun is created. Especially if the metaphorisation in question has an entrenched figurative meaning, the unexpectedness of the literal interpretation is greater and the pun more obvious. The examples of these puns exploiting metaphor reversal have been taken from films featuring the verbal comedian Groucho Marx (GM), who frequently used this type and other kinds of puns in his films. The terms internal and external metaphor, coined by Alm-Arvius (2003:78), have been used in order to distinguish between two different types of metaphorisations. Internal metaphor refers to metaphors with obvious internal collocational clashes and external metaphor refers to metaphors without such clashes, which can thus be given a literal as well as a figurative reading. However, this is not a clear-cut distinction and occasional overlapping between the two categories is common. Therefore, a continuum has been given which shows the overlapping category ‘more figurative external metaphors’. These are metaphors without collocational clashes, but with entrenched figurative meanings which make them metaphorical and not literal. GM does not only revert external metaphors; he also reverts internal metaphors although this category contains collocational clashes which should make a literal interpretation impossible. Internal metaphor puns tend to be more absurd than external metaphor puns due to the collocational clashes which make the literal interpretation less probable. Reverted external metaphors are referred to as REM and reverted internal metaphors as RIM. Most examples analysed are metaphorisations with idiom status with clearly preferred figurative meanings. Consequently, their figurative meanings are deeply entrenched and should not be altered. However, these figurative meanings are altered by GM in his punning; they are reverted and interpreted literally. This indicates that one of the few occasions when it is accepted or even possible to interpret a metaphorical idiom literally is in punning.

Abstract
This study is about the meaning of education and the concept of meaning. The main aim is to develop a meta-theoretical object theory of education i.e. a theory about the research object of science of education, one which would be a valid reflection basis both for methodological and meta-theoretical questions of educational scientific research and for general pedagogical discussions. The development is based on the continental tradition of general pedagogy which acknowledges the pedagogical paradox by distinguishing between the concepts of educational influence and Bildung, and sees the need to unite them in the concept of pedagogical action. The basic ideas of general pedagogy are analyzed and explicated using the concepts developed in Greimassian semiotics. For example, the Greimassian core concepts like subject, competence, performance and manipulation offer good reasons for its use also in a pedagogical context.
The semiotic theory is modified to make it more suitable for typical pedagogical questions. This is done by making the concept of meaning its basic concept. The aim is to make a dynamic and flexible theory which would better encapsulate an action which utilizes different semiotic systems and transfers from one system to another, like pedagogical action transfers from bio-semiotic communication to language and culture.
The concept of meaning is approached firstly by relating it to the concepts of causality and structure. The analysis arrives at a result whereby, in spite of the close connections, the meaning relationship must be differentiated from causal relationships, and that only living beings can have meaning relationships. The meanings are based on the action of organisms and the semiotic competence of organisms is their precondition. Furthermore, the linguistic and cultural meanings of human beings must be
distinguished as a special area with special features, like a partial or apparent detachment from immediate action and collectively binding semiotic systems which are changing historically because of people's action.
Pedagogical action as a whole can be understood to be a meaningful object, with a deep structure that can be analyzed with semiotic concepts as a tension between the basic values of Nature and Culture. Following the semiotic theory of the generation of meaning, the structure of pedagogical action is analyzed as interaction of subjects who are trying to solve the tension between the basic values. The most important task for the follow-up studies is the continuation of the analysis to the empirical surface of the pedagogical action. / Tiivistelmä
Tutkimus käsittelee merkityksen käsitettä ja kasvatuksen merkitystä. Tavoitteena on kehitellä kasvatustieteen metateoreettista kohdeteoriaa, eli sellaista teoriaa kasvatustieteen tutkimuskohteesta, joka voisi toimia pätevänä reflektiopohjana sekä kasvatustieteellisen tutkimuksen metateoreettisissa ja metodologisissa ongelmissa että yleisemminkin pedagogisissa keskusteluissa.
Kehittelyn lähtökohdaksi valitaan mannermainen yleisen pedagogiikan perinne, jolle on ominaista ns. pedagogisen paradoksin tunnustaminen, eli kasvattavan vaikuttamisen ja sivistyksen käsitteiden erottaminen ja niiden yhdistämisen vaatimus pedagogisen toiminnan käsitteessä. Yleisen pedagogiikan perusnäkemyksiä pyritään analysoimaan ja täsmentämään Greimasilaisessa semiotiikassa kehitetyn käsitevälineistön avulla. Muun muassa keskeiset subjektin, kompetenssin, performanssin ja manipulaation käsitteet hyvin perustelevat Greimasilaisen semiotiikan valintaa myös pedagogiseen asiayhteyteen.
Jotta semioottinen teoria paremmin sopisi pedagogiikalle tyypillisten ongelmien käsittelyyn, on sen teoreettista perustaa kehitetty lähtien merkityksen käsitteestä. Tavoitteena on entistä joustavampi ja dynaamisempi teoria, joka paremmin ylettyy käsittelemään sellaista toimintaa, joka käyttää erilaisia semioottisia järjestelmiä ja siirtyy semioottisesta järjestelmästä toiseen, kuten esimerkiksi pedagogiikassa siirrytään biosemioottisesta kommunikaatiosta kielelliseen ja kulttuuriseen.
Merkityksen käsitettä lähestytään suhteuttamalla sitä ensin kausaalisuuden ja rakenteen käsitteisiin. Analyysissä päädytään siihen, että läheisistä yhteyksistä huolimatta merkityssuhde täytyy erottaa kausaalisuhteista ja että merkityssuhteita on olemassa ainoastaan elävillä olennoilla. Merkitykset perustuvat eliöiden toimintaan ja edellyttävät niiltä semioottista kompetenssia. Ihmisen kielelliset ja kulttuuriset merkitykset täytyy edelleen erottaa omaksi erityisalueekseen, jolle ovat ominaisia merkitysten osittainen tai näennäinen irtoaminen välittömästä toiminnasta ja kollektiivisesti sitovat semioottiset järjestelmät, jotka muuttuvat historiallisesti ihmisten toiminnan seurauksena.
Pedagoginen toiminta kokonaisuudessaan voidaan ymmärtää merkitykselliseksi kohteeksi, jonka syvärakenteen perinteistä analyysiä voidaan tiivistää semioottisella käsitteistöllä Luonto vs. Kulttuuri -perusarvojen väliseksi jännitteeksi. Edelleen semioottista merkityksen generoitumisen teoriaa seuraamalla päästään analysoimaan pedagogisen toiminnan rakennetta subjektien välisenä vuorovaikutuksena mainitun perusarvojännitteen ratkaisemiseksi. Tärkeimmäksi jatkotutkimuksen aiheeksi jää analyysin eteneminen pedagogisen toiminnan pintarakenteen empiiriseen analyysiin.

Meaning and Understanding in the Context of Thought of Jacques Derrida and Hans-Georg Gadamer The focus of the present study is mainly on the discussion of the process of understanding and emergence of meaning. Using the example of Gadamer's hermeneutics it becomes clear what are the limits of positive attempt to express conditions of understanding within the context of the philosophy of finitude. In spite of its undeniable benefits, hermeneutic understanding shows itself to be vulnerable towards ideology and it could be seen as suspected of hidden normativity thanks to its emphasis on agreement and coherency. Derrida's deconstruction on the other hand shows the dynamics of emergence of meaning in language, it emphasizes plurality and ambiguity in contrast towards totalizing unicity and agreement; however, due to this approach, it is unable to offer anything close to what we call the truth. In a parallel line of interpretation, philosophical- antropological approach of Ernst Cassirer standing in comparison with Heidegger's existential analytics of Dasein shows that already at the fundamental level in the process of establishment of terms and concepts and earlier our understanding is already determined to a certain extent. Developing a Leisure Meanings Gained & Outcomes Scale (LMGOS) and Exploring Associations of Leisure Meanings to Leisure Time Physical Activity (LTPA) Adherence among Adults with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D)Porter, Heather R. January 2009 (has links)
It is estimated that 61% of people with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) don't engage in any form of leisure time physical activity (LTPA) (Morrato, Hill, Wyatt, Ghushchyan, & Sullivan, 2007). One of the primary interventions to manage T2D is regular engagement in Leisure Time Physical Activity (LTPA) (Sigal, Kenny, Wasserman, Castaneda-Sceppa, & White, 2006). Many studies have tried to increase the frequency of LTPA in this population with little success (e.g., Williams, Bezner, Chesbro, & Leavitt, 2005). A new innovative approach to increasing engagement in LTPA is needed. Feelings of enjoyment have been found to correlate with adherence to LTPA (e.g., Williams, Papandonatos, Napolitano, Lewis, Whiteley, & Marcus, 2006) and theorized to be an outcome of experiencing something that is personally meaningful (Snyder & Lopez, 2002). It has also been found that "participation in leisure...continues when the experiences and/or the activity are meaningful to the individual" (Ragheb, 1996, p. 247). Thus, exploration of personal meanings that are valued and experienced within LTPA may be a key approach to effectively increasing LTPA. A content-analysis of the literature yielded the identification of five leisure meanings and three outcomes that are derived within and/or from leisure activity engagement. A new scale, the Leisure Meanings Gained and Outcomes Scale (LMGOS), was developed to reflect the findings. It was confirmed by an expert panel for face and content validity and then administered to Temple University students (n = 163). Exploratory factor analyses provided evidence for construct validity and reliability and led to further refinement. The refined LMGOS was given to adults with T2D (n = 26). The results showed significant correlations between specific leisure meanings gained and LTPA engagement, as well as between outcomes of meanings gained and LTPA engagement. The implications of the study include demonstrating: (a) the utility of a theoretically and psychometrically sound measure of the meanings gained and its outcomes via leisure (i.e., LMGOS), (b) the need for acknowledging meaning-oriented experiential and emotional properties of LTPA from a more holistic and humanistic perspective, and (c) the importance of meaning-seeking or meaning-making through leisure as a key facilitator to active living and health promotion for people including individuals with T2D. / Therapeutic Recreation

Объект исследования: психологическое благополучие и смысложизненные ориентации. Предметом исследования стала взаимосвязь смысложизненных ориентаций и психологического благополучия молодежи в возрасте 27-30 лет. Магистерская диссертация состоит из введения, двух глав, заключения, списка литературы (82 источника) и приложения, включающего в себя бланки применявшихся методик и подробные расчеты. Объем магистерской диссертации 121 страница, на которых размещены 38 рисунков и 42 таблицы. Во введении раскрывается актуальность проблемы исследования, степень изученности, ставятся цель и задачи исследования, определяются объект и предмет исследования, формулируются гипотезы, указываются методы и эмпирическая база, а также практическая значимость работы. В первой главе рассмотрен феномен смысложизненных ориентаций в гуманитарных науках, работах отечественных и зарубежных психологов, раскрыто понятие психологического благополучия и проанализированы психологические особенности молодежи. Выводы по первой главе представляют собой итоги по изучению теоретического материала. Во второй главе описаны методы и ход эмпирического исследования смысложизненных ориентаций и психологического благополучия молодых людей, представлено описание организации и методов проведенного исследования и результатов, полученных по всем использованным методикам: «Тесту смысложизненных ориентаций» Д.А. Леонтьева, опроснику «Шкала психологического благополучия» К. Рифф, шкале «Удовлетворенность жизнью» Э. Динера. Приведены и проанализированы результаты исследования и представлен корреляционный и сравнительный анализ полученных данных. Выводы по главе 2 включают в себя основные результаты эмпирического исследования. В заключении в обобщенном виде изложены результаты теоретической и эмпирической частей работы, а также выводы по выдвинутым гипотезам, обоснована практическая значимость исследования и описаны возможные перспективы дальнейшей разработки данной проблематики. / Object of the study: psychological well-being and meaning-life orientations. The subject of the study was the relationship between meaning-life orientations and psychological well-being of young people aged 27-30 years old. The master's thesis consists of an introduction, two chapters, a conclusion, a list of literature (82 sources) and an appendix, including forms of applied methods and detailed calculations. The volume of the master's thesis is 121 pages with 38 figures and 42 tables. The introduction reveals the relevance of the research problem, the degree of study, sets the goal and objectives of the study, defines the object and subject of the study, formulates hypotheses, specifies methods and empirical basis, as well as the practical significance of the work. The first chapter considers the phenomenon of meaning-life orientations in the humanities, works of domestic and foreign psychologists, reveals the concept of psychological well-being and analyzes the psychological characteristics of young people. The conclusions of the first chapter represent the results of the study of theoretical material. The second chapter describes the methods and course of the empirical study of meaning-life orientations and psychological well-being of young people, presents a description of the organization and methods of the conducted research and the results obtained by all the methods used: "Test of meaning-life orientations" by D.A. Leontyev, questionnaire "Scale of psychological well-being" by K. Ryff, scale "Satisfaction with life" by E. Diener. The results of the study are presented and analyzed and the correlation and comparative analysis of the obtained data is presented. Conclusions on Chapter 2 include the main results of the empirical study. The conclusion summarizes the results of the theoretical and empirical parts of the work, as well as conclusions on the hypotheses, substantiates the practical significance of the study and describes possible prospects for further development of this issue.
