Aiach Awad, Rodrigo January 2008 (has links)

Důkazní prostředky v civilním řízení / Means of evidence in civil procedure

Bouška, Bohumír January 2018 (has links)
Summary: The diploma thesis deals with one of current subject matter in civil law, a problem of evidence used in the civil procedures. This issue is in the centre of civil procedure because we can resolve any case with fair decision only by clarifying the factual situation between litigants. The importance of this issue isn't just for civil procedure, but for every legal action as well. The basics of the legal regulation represent two main civil codes. First of all it is Act. No. 99/1963 Coll., Code of Civil Procedure, as amended, which regulates the most important part of all civil procedures, in Czech legal theory so-called "dispute civil procedure". The second Act. No. 292/2013 Coll, special civil procedure, regulates other civil procedure with different principles, Czech legal theory called them "undisputed civil procedures". The aim of thesis is to analyse all the problems in regulation of evidences (law regulations, jurisprudence and Czech legal theory). The thesis also points out possible future changes in regulations. The thesis is divided into three basic parts. The first part explains the basic legal terms like a burden of proof and evidence. There are explained the most important terms. The second part of the thesis deals with evidences, which are regulated by Code of Civil procedure. It is the...

A K-MEANS BASED WATERSHED IMAGING SEGMENTATION ALGORITHM FOR BANANA CLUSTER QUALITY INSPECTION

Castillo, Gregorio Alfonso 01 December 2016 (has links)
Banana has become the most commonly consumed fresh fruit among US population. It is a challenge to use computer vision to divide touching bananas, for this purpose a novel image segmentation algorithm is proposed, combining k-means and the watershed transformation. The first part is to extract the background, achieved using a K-means based in the HS space, the second part is individual banana segmentation where a smarter selection of the initial markers from where the watershed transformation grows is attained fusing two morphological filters with different structural elements. The validation of the proposed algorithm has been conducted using 124 experimentally capture banana pictures manually segmented. For background extraction K-means in HS space produced the best performance over the other two tested (Otsu, K-means(L*a*b*), getting average a F1 Score average of 96.99%, Otsu and K-means(L*a*b*) scored 82.58% and 88.06% respectively. The result of the watershed segmentation was also compared with the manual segmentation; The overall performance using the F1 Score in average is 92.28%. The performance would improve with modifications to the system, including a more homogenous illumination, only allowing certain positions to be possible for the bananas cluster, and a more adequate background selection.

Rojas Araya, Javier Orlando January 2017 (has links)

Role, Structure, and Style: Concurrent Mediational Means in Public Engagement Mechanisms

January 2016 (has links)
abstract: A pressing question in public policymaking is how best to allocate decision-making authority and to facilitate opportunities for input. When it comes to science, technology, and environmental (STE) policy decisions, persons impacted by those decisions often have relevant information and perspectives to contribute yet lack either the specialized, technical knowledge or the means by which to effectively communicate that knowledge. Consequently, due to a variety of factors, they are frequently denied meaningful involvement in making them. In an effort to better understand why this is so, and how this might change, this dissertation uses an activity systems framework to examine how three factors mediate the circulation of information in STE public engagement mechanisms. In this project, I examine the transcripts of a 2015 administrative hearing and community meeting about the Santa Susana Field Lab—a former nuclear- and rocket engine-testing facility 30 miles from Los Angeles, where an experimental nuclear reactor suffered a partial meltdown in 1959. Specifically, I identify (1) who was designated as an "expert" versus a member of "the public," (2) the structural features, and (3) the stylistic features of participants' remarks at these events; and I study how these factors mediated the flow of information at each. To do so, I view "expert" and "public" as what Michael McGee has termed ideographs, and consider the structural and stylistic features that prior scholarship has identified to impact information flow. Based on my analysis, I theorize that role designations, structural features, and stylistic features work together to mediate whose, what, and how information flows in public engagement mechanisms. Based on my findings, I also suggest that this mediation impacts policy outcomes. As such, I contend that better understanding the relationships among these mediational means, information flow, and policy outcomes is an important step towards developing public engagement mechanisms that most effectively use the relevant knowledge and other insights of all who have a stake in policy decisions. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation English 2016

The voiceless telephone

Van der Linde, Steven Mark January 1991 (has links)
Thesis (Masters Diploma (Electrical Engineering) -- Cape Technikon, Cape Town,1991 / Communication in all its various forms, has always played an important role in both the business and social environments. The conventional telephone, taken more often than not for granted, is responsible for keeping over five million people in South Africa alone, in daily contact. For the deaf and mute society, of which their are approximately 300 000 in South Africa, the telephone, on its own, has remained a useless gadget. Without the aid of a personal computer or terminal and a modem, communication for the deaf via the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) has been impossible. Use of computers may be one way of overcoming this obvious problem, but expense now becomes the more important issue. To analyse the situation, two issues had to be taken into consideration. The first is, what makes the above solution so expensive, and the secondly, is thi!t expensive equipment necessary to complete the relatively simple task of interactive communication. The technology built into todays personal computers is continuously changing and in order to keep up with these changes, regular upgrades to the computer are necessary if one intends being able to recover ones investment at a later stage. The cost of a modem, with its sophisticated error-eorrection routines and auto-dial software, can also increase the initial outlay considerably. Bearing these costs in mind, it must now be investigated how one can achieve the objective of communicating with only the bear essential. By replacing the PC's monitor with a Liquid Crystal Display, the powerful processor with a relatively simple one, eliminating the disk storage entirely, reducing the on-board ROM!RAM memory, and finally, substituting a single-chip low speed modem for the free standing modem, the cost can be drastically reduced. By combining all these components together and developing a program to control them, the result is the 'Voiceless Telephone".

To maximize profits and minimize losses is now the focus of a great practical interest. However, the main tool to solve the majority of optimization problems are the derivatives. It makes the almost all of these problems remain unaccessible for middle and high school students. On this project, we use the inequality of arithmetic and geometric means to solve several optimization problems, by removing the derivatives necessity and, therefore, making the problems accessible to basic school students and teachers as well.

Design reuse in a CAD environment

Andrews, Peter T. J. January 1999 (has links)
For many companies, design related information mainly exists as rooms of paper-based archives, typically in the form of manufacturing drawings and technical specifications. This 'static' information cannot be easily reused. The work presented in this thesis proposes a methodology to ease this problem. It defines and implements a computer-based design tool that will enable existing design families to be transformed into 'dynamic' CAD-based models for the Conceptual, Embodiment and Detailed stages of the design process. Two novel concepts are proposed here, i) the use of a Function Means Tree to store Conceptual and Embodiment design and ii) a Variant Method to represent Detailed design. In this way a definite link between the more abstract conceptual and the concrete detailed design stages is realised by linking individual detailed designs to means in the Function Means Tree. The use of the Variant Method, incorporating 'state-of-the-art' developments in Solid Modelling, Feature-Based Design and Parametric Design, allows an entire family of designs to be represented by a single Master Model. Therefore, instances of this Master Model need only be stored as a set of design parameters. This enables current design families and new design cases to be more created more efficiently. Industrial Case Studies, including a Lathe Chuck family, a Drive-End casting and a family of Filtration Systems are given to prove the methodology.
