Šimkutė, Ieva 01 July 2014 (has links)
Magistro darbo objektas – lieknumo idealai žiniasklaidoje. Darbo tikslas - išanalizuoti skirtingų šalių visuomenėse ir žiniasklaidoje egzistuojančius lieknumo idealus. Darbo uždaviniai: aptarti teorijas, aiškinančias žiniasklaidos įtaką mitybai; išanalizuoti tarpinius žiniasklaidos poveikio kintamuosius bei žiniasklaidoje poveikį švelninančius veiksnius; apžvelgti istorinę lieknumo idealų raidą; išanalizuoti lieknumo idealus, egzistuojančius skirtingose visuomenėse šiandieniniame pasaulyje; išanalizuoti lieknumo idealus, propaguojamus žiniasklaidoje; atlikti lieknumo idealų, propaguojamų lietuviškuose serialuose, tyrimą; atlikti palyginamąją lieknumo idealų propaguojamų Lietuvos televizijų ir užsienio šalių serialuose analizę. Having analyzed the wide scope of science literature, theories contributing to explanation of media’s influence on eating behavior were abstracted, and the conclusion that neither of them is capable of giving the complete explanation of the media’s influence on one’s eating behavior process was drawn. It is only explicit that media does influence our self-esteem and eating behavior as a result. Also, moderators capable of either mitigating or intensifying medias influence were pointed out, as well as mitigating factors, that can be used for reducing negative media influence on eating behavior. Review of the body image ideals throughout the history revealed... [to full text]

Hantonová, Barbora January 2013 (has links)
This diploma thesis concentrates on the media coverage of Vietnam in 2012, particularly in four Czech newspapers. Applying qualitative and quantitative method, it analyzes 358 articles, which appeared throughout the selected newspapers in 2012. This paper is divided into two parts, a theoretical and a practical one. The theoretical part describes Vietnam in the 20th century, the history of Czech-Vietnamese relations as well as the main media concepts that help to create a media image. The practical part of the quantitative method answers the research questions, which have been put forward at the beginning of the research. The data, such as the frequency of the topic during the year, topics that are usually connected with Vietnam, occurrence of the word Vietnam in headline and the amount of articles in which Vietnam is the main topic will be depicted using graphs and tables. The results of the qualitative analysis will then show, which characteristics are attributed to Vietnam in Czech daily press.

Fišer, Ondřej January 2016 (has links)
The main aim of the diploma thesis is to describe the way that magazines for parents communicate with their readers and to identify the role of the representation of children. A selection of articles representing both commercial and noncommercial communication is analyzed using the method of semiotic analysis. The introductory part of the thesis, briefly presenting the history of media research, is followed by a section describing the way that motherhood and the status of a child has been perceived throughout history, with special attention to the influence of Christianity. Following chapters focus on the changes of the social role of women that enabled the rise of women's periodicals, both in the USA, Europe and also in the Czech lands. The part dedicated to legislation introduces the most significant legal definitions of children and childhood in relation to media. The analytical part of the thesis is preceded by a brief characterization of the selected magazines and an explanation of the method of semiotic analysis. The analysis results in the description of meaning bearing elements of the individual pieces of information which are placed in a wider social context. The summary offers a review of the most significant findings relating to the communication of periodicals with their readers, the...

Evaluation Of Best Environmental Management Practices Of An Integrated Iron And Steel Plant

Cakir, Nur 01 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)
European Union published IPPC Directive in 1996 aiming to create an integrated approach in order to manage and control industrial facilities better. IPPC provides the development of a new concept of &ldquo / Best Available Techniques (BAT)&rdquo / , the most effective, advanced and applicable methods, preventing emissions to the environment and providing efficient use of resources. Within this framework, numerous sectoral Best Available Techniques Reference Documents were published giving information on the sector and BAT alternatives for this sector. Iron and steel industry, which causes quite significant amount of resource depletion and waste production, is one of the industries within the scope of IPPC Directive. In the this study, environmental performance of an integrated iron and steel plant in Turkey is evaluated and compared with the EU&rsquo / s integrated iron and steel plants, in order to suggest applicable BAT alternatives for the studied plant. Totally 74 BAT alternatives were evaluated and among them 36 alternatives were determined to be applicable for this plant. Finally, two of these applicable BAT alternatives were selected and compared by use of cross-media effects and financial analysis. The results of this study indicated that dust emission and high energy consumption are the common problems in the facility. Moreover, sintering process was found to be the least compatible sub-process with EU&rsquo / s iron and steel plants. Additionally, it was determined that with respect to application of BAT alternatives, facility is quite compatible with EU&rsquo / s iron v and steel plants. Furthermore, cross media effect and financial analysis revealed that the selected BAT alternatives, &ldquo / Advanced Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP)&rdquo / and &ldquo / Bag Filter-combined or integrated reduction of solid and gaseous pollutants&rdquo / , have different cross media effects on the environment, however, the second alternative is a more cost-effective alternative than the first one. Since this study was undertaken in an integrated iron and steel plant that represents Turkish iron and steel industry with respect to its production process, production capacity and environmental performance / the results of this study can be used to aid decision makers to make environmental initiatives in iron and steel industry in Turkey.

Public memory and political history : news media and collective memory construction after the deaths of former presidents

Patterson, Jeffery Randolph 20 January 2015 (has links)
In recent years, scholars have shown increasing interest in the concept of collective memory for structuring modern social understanding and political dialogue. However, surprisingly few studies have looked at the role that news media play the processes of collective political memory construction, reinterpretation, and change. This study contributes to the literature on collective memory construction, by helping clarify the means by which different news media serve as a site where collective memory is constructed, reinforced, and revised; and, 2) to identify which political actors and institutions act as sources to assert particular memory frames and what media subsidies they offer to influence the memory construction process. Specifically, the study undertook a two-stage longitudinal content analysis of news media to discern the ways former U.S. presidents (i.e., Truman, Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, and Ford) were memorialized in news media coverage at the time of their funerals, and then again in subsequent news media stories through 2012. The content analysis identified dominant news media frames and secondary attribute sub-frames as applied to former U.S. Presidents, and which news media sources and frame advocates are engaged in setting those frames. As a result, the study identified patterns of change and resilience in particular presidential memory frames as represented in news media, and found journalists—beyond other sources and frame advocates—play a significant role in both creating and revising those memories over time. A range of opportunities for further research are discussed. / text

Regioninės žiniasklaidos veiklos problemos ir įtaka bendruomenei: Alytaus atvejis / Local media problems and influence to the community: the case of Alytus

Buškevičiūtė, Edita 15 June 2010 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Media studies is interdisciplinary science, so media problems, changes, influence to society is discussed between many researchers, who are specializing in Communication, Sociology, Politics, Education and many other sciences. There are a lot of talks about recent changes in media, media commercialization, growing influence by political and business organizations. This is research is yet another try to find out, how media is changing, how these changes affect society, what kind of influence businesses and political organizations have in media, how that influence changed in recent slow down in global economy. Empirical research object was media in Alytus, small region in Lithuania, and results were compared with similar regions. 22 follow-up qualitative interviews were carried out between members of media organizations, audience and experts. The main point was to check how theories and predictions, which were made by media experts earlier, work in practice in small regional media nowadays, what new problems are growing and what kind of damage they can do to local communities in near future. The results show, that regional media is very close to its audience geographically and can have a huge impact in formation of public sphere in local community, so the main problems are unclear connections between media and political, business organizations, which has influence in media reports, and media’s manipulation with ‘weakest’ audience in order to get a better sales and profit.
