Hallberg, Jonas, Lönn, Ann-Sofe January 2006 (has links)

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact that idealised body images found in media have on the body-image and wellbeing of young men and women. The study was carried out using questionnaires based on the BAQ and HAD scales to examine the participants' views of themselves as well as symptoms of anxiety and depression. Time spent by the participants using different kinds of media, as well as their degree of social support, was used with the purpose of examining relations and differences in body-image between men and women. The questionnaire contained advertising images to examine whether short time exposure had any impact on the participants. In order to determine this, one half of the questionnaires contained idealised body-images, whilst the other half contained images without human objects. The results showed a clear difference between men and women. Women had a more negative body-image than that of men. There was also a clear relation between the level of anxiety and depression symptoms to be found. Participants with higher levels of depression and anxiety often had a more negative body-image. In the case the relation between of short time exposure and body-image, no significant relations were found, which indicates that the participants\2019 body-image and levels of anxiety and depression thus seem to be similar both before and after the study was conducted.

The purpose of the study is to investigate to what extent people experience influence from media and how that affects their attitudes and opinions towards politics, And explore age differences between the age groups 18-25 and 65+. ”DET ÄR JU MYCKET HUR MAN SKA VARA FÖR ATT PASSA IN SOM TONÅRING, OCH DÅ SPELAR JU NORMERNA I MEDIA ROLL FÖR HUR MAN TYCKER OM SIG SJÄLV” -En studie om Tv´s påverkan för ungdomars identitetsskapande

Johnsson, Josefin, Lilja, Veronica January 2009 (has links)
In this thesis we have examined if some young people's identity is influenced by television programs. We chose to illustrate this from a gender perspective and have made use of social construction theory. We did group interviews with 13 youngsters, in three groups, to find out how much insight they had in what they watch, if they believe that they are affected and how they believe that gender roles in television programs often look. Our questions are: Does young people's identity take influence of the TV program? How? Creates a social construction of gender in the television programs that young people are watching? Is there awareness among young people on what they watch and how is this in this case out? Important to emphasize is that our results are not necessarily representative of youngsters in general when we only had the opportunity to interview a few. Our survey showed what many of the youngsters had very high awareness around the influence television programs hade on them; however we saw a clear difference between the groups that was two years younger than the other two groups. In the group with young adolescents awareness was not as great as the others. We found that young people had their own methods to rule out certain things they saw. Young people felt that even if they where affected much, they had hard to say exactly what influenced them.

Extremister försöker splittra det svenska samhället : en kritisk diskursanalys om svensk medias framställning av LVU-kampanjen / Extremists are trying to divide Swedish society : A critical discourse analysis of the Swedish media’s presentation of the LVU-campaign

Svensson, Evelina, Ekenberg, Linn January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this study is to analyze how the LVU-campaign is presented in news media. The LVU-campaign aims at the campaign in which the Swedish social service is alleged to kidnap muslim children without a legal basis. With the study, we want to pay attention to the discourses and possible underlying attitudes that are created in the media. The study focuses on the categorization of people, which people are spoken in the articles and how that affects how the debate is described, and lastly how the language is used to describe social services and their work. The essay describes and discusses the most salient discourses in the debate; the discourse of violence, the discourse about threats to Swedish security, the discourse about the threatening social service and the discourse about the uneducated others. The analysis shows that the news media portrays that the debate gives expression to threats and violence against professionals, which from a larger perspective can affect Swedish security. The analysis also shows that the news media portrays the social services as threatening and that the debate is developed because of lack of knowledge.
