Müller, Lisa 30 November 2016 (has links) (PDF)

This research aims through political discourse and the Nazi project to understand the origins of contemporary conservative thought and modern forms of discrimination and violence, especially those arising from the idea of order and control partner, so as the relationship between conservative thought and mass society in the crisis of modernity. We define our object of analysis around the period spanning the end of World War I, to the expansion and rise to power of the Nazi Party in the 1930s. Taking as its central object the work of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf, consider how different ideologies contributed to the creation of a doctrine, and the role of anti-Semitism in this process. Reassemble the origins of different discourses in society, and how these discourses have converged on a political project. We aim to understand both the power of articulation of ideas can have within a given social context and the relationship between ideology and society. We analyzed the ways in which conservative thought takes for re-establishment of order and social control and ultimately understand how it is possible to naturalize the differences and discriminatory practices, a process in which the other is subhumanized, subordinazed, e its legitimized segregation, violence and the slaughter

Hitlerovo vídeňské období (1908 - 1913): vlivy na jeho protižidovské postoje / Hitler's Viennese period (1908 - 1913): influences on his antisemitic attitudes

Martinovská, Karolína January 2017 (has links)
This master diploma thesis is concerned with Hitler's stay in Vienna during the period from 1908 to 1913 and the way in which his experiences from this period influenced the anti-Semitic views presented especially in his crucial work, Mein Kampf. The first, introductory chapter describes Vienna at the turn of the 20th century and also factors leading to the emergence of the specific atmosphere of this period, called fin de siècle. The focus of the second chapter is put on the issue of Jewish population in Vienna, i.e. a growing number of Jews in the city, the difference between the two basic groups of Jews (east and west), and especially the sorts of anti-Semitism which could be encountered in Vienna at that time. The third, last chapter is dedicated to Adolf Hitler, his life before his arrival to the capital, and his way of life and occupation in Vienna. The last part of the chapter is focused on the anti-Semitic quotations in Mein Kampf and their probable sources in Hitler's Viennese experiences. The aim of the thesis is to determine how Hitler's stay in Vienna influenced his later anti- Semitic attitude.

Uncanny Reminders: The 'Nazi' in Popular Culture

Tobler, Tamara Lynn 15 August 2014 (has links)
The ubiquity of the ‘Nazi’ – the fictional Doppelgänger of the historical Nazi – in the various media of popular culture is both disturbing and fascinating. There is an important relationship between the ‘Nazi’ and its audience; related to but separate from the historical Nazi, the creation and reception of the ‘Nazi’ both enables and exemplifies the continual processing of the past. Using a purpose-built framework (concept and terminology) for the study of the ‘Nazi’ as a phenomenon in and of itself, in combination with Freud’s concept of the uncanny, this thesis examines the dynamics of the relationship between the ‘Nazi’ and its audience in four examples: television episodes “Deaths-Head Revisited,” “He’s Alive” (The Twilight Zone), and “Patterns of Force” (Star Trek); and Serdar Somuncu’s performances/readings of Mein Kampf. The temporal and geographical context of the episodes (1960s America) seem far removed from Somuncu’s performances (1990s/2000s Germany), but analysing the production and effects of the uncanny moments generated in each case reveals a provocative raison d’être that spans across the geographical and temporal divide. / Graduate / 0311 / 0900
