Modern society is causing rapid changes in the environment, generating some of the impacts and conflicts, especially in local communities, interfering in economic, social and cultural set daily. Moreover, certain mitigatory projects and environmental education seem to consider more expectation and interest of the entities that propose that the populations involved.Accordingly, as the residents of Rancharia are related and represent the environment? What are the meanings they attach to it? How are experienced everyday social relations and environmental practices? As representations, everyday practices and experiences can contribute to environmental education? The investigation was guided by the qualitative research methodology because it allows the study of values, beliefs, habits, attitudes, representations and subjective aspects, like understanding of reality, relevance and meaning that the phenomena have for the social subjects. The research relied on the help of employees interviewed, especially those residing for more time on site, please understand that these guys lived through these changes in the environment over time and therefore carry their memories experiences, meanings, and personal transformations and their social group. The results indicate some suggestions for environmental education in the area searched. / A pesquisa teve como objetivo compreender as representações sobre meio ambiente manifestadas pelos moradores de Rancharia em seu viver o cotidiano, em suas relações sociais e práticas ambientais, com o intuito de obter informações e orientações que possam contribuir com programas e ações de educação ambiental na comunidade e, possivelmente, a nível regional e nacional. A sociedade moderna está causando rápidas transformações no ambiente, algumas delas geradoras de impactos e conflitos, principalmente em comunidades locais, interferindo nas relações econômicas, sociais e culturais estabelecidas cotidianamente. Além disso, determinados projetos mitigatórios e de educação ambiental parecem considerar mais a expectativa e o interesse das entidades que os propõem do que das populações envolvidos. Nesse sentido, como os moradores de Rancharia se relacionam e representam o ambiente? Quais os significados que atribuem a ele? Como são vivenciadas cotidianamente as relações sociais e as práticas ambientais? Como as representações, práticas e vivências cotidianas podem contribuir com a educação ambiental? A investigação foi guiada pela metodologia da pesquisa qualitativa, por permitir o estudo de valores, crenças, hábitos, atitudes, representações e aspectos subjetivos, como compreensão da realidade, relevância e significados que os fenômenos têm para os sujeitos sociais. A pesquisa contou com a ajuda dos colaboradores entrevistados, principalmente aqueles que residem há mais tempo no local, por entender que estes sujeitos vivenciaram as mudanças ocorridas no ambiente ao longo do tempo e, por isso, suas lembranças carregam experiências, significados e transformações pessoais e de seu grupo social. Os resultados apontam algumas sugestões para a educação ambiental na área pesquisada.

It is considered that the school has the role to promote the debate about the problems that afect the students life and the comunity where they are inserted, in local and global sphere. It is believied that the sutendts need to be stimulated to think about what once was done in the past, what has been done in the present and bild their knowledge in na participatory and critical way. This research sought to explore and comprehend, by the theory of social representations, how the high school students from the public schools of the São Francisco do Sul city represent the environment. The research aimed to analise how those representations echoes in the comunity and how they offer subsidies to the participation in events and situations that involve impacts to the city. It sought, likewise, to understand the sources of information about the environment and the involvement of these students with the environmental projects. It is considered that the representations that build themselves in social relationships, are an revealing fact of an determinated social reality and act directing the subjects actions in the knowledge construction, sharing it everyday. Accordingly, na study was developed by the aplication of an structured and self administered survey. The data collected were analised with the assistence of the program Esemble de Programmes Permettant L‟analyse dês Évocations (EVOC) were submitted to the software ALCESTE. This approach produced knowledge about the social representations from the high school students from two public schools from São Francisco do Sul that may contribute to the guide organization of content and practices to an activiy of environmental education. In this leading the preoccupation with the role of the school in introduction of cientifical knowledge is important to rebound, so as laws and general content, as also and principally, with the particularities of local ecosystem and from the comunitys environmental problems, without forgetting the cultural, social and political dimension / A pesquisa objetivou investigar as representações sociais de meio ambiente e educação ambiental dos alunos do ensino médio de escolas públicas do município de São Francisco do Sul em Santa Catarina. Considera-se que a escola tem o papel de promover o debate sobre os problemas que afetam a vida do aluno e da comunidade onde está inserido, em âmbito local e global. Acredita-se que os alunos precisam ser estimulados e incentivados a refletir sobre o que foi feito no passado, o que está sendo feito no presente e construir seus saberes de forma participativa e crítica. Nesta pesquisa procurou-se explorar e compreender, por meio da teoria das representações sociais, de que maneira alunos do ensino médio de escolas públicas de São Francisco do Sul representam o meio ambiente. Pretendeu-se analisar, também, de que forma essas representações ecoam na comunidade e oferecem subsídios para participação nos eventos e situações que envolvam impactos para a cidade. Procurou-se ainda, conhecer a fonte de informações que esses alunos adquirem sobre meio ambiente e o envolvimento com projetos ambientais. Considera-se que representações se constroem nas relações sociais, são reveladoras de uma determinada realidade social e atuam orientando as ações dos sujeitos na construção do conhecimento compartilhado no cotidiano. Nesse sentido foi efetuado um estudo quali-quantitativo, desenvolvido mediante a aplicação de um questionário estruturado e auto-administrado. Os dados coletados foram analisados com a ajuda do programa Esemble de Programmes Permettant L‟analyse dês Évocations (EVOC) e foram submetidos ao software ALCESTE. Esta abordagem produziu conhecimentos sobre as representações sociais dos alunos do ensino médio de duas escolas públicas de São Francisco do Sul que poderão contribuir para orientar a organização de conteúdos e práticas de Educação Ambiental.
